TFM's - V70 T5

Post 520405 by The Flying Moose on 2012-07-04 02:56:36

Well I managed to last all of a day without buying another T5... infact the problem was more so that such a good deal came my way it couldnt be missed. Not only that Woody T5 seems always to persuade me that I ought to be chasing his cars performance and that certainly cant be achieved in a D5! As such that will be for sale soon but thats another issue! So the purchase... a Turquoise (although strangly also looks Lazer blueish in the right light) V70 T5. Previous owner you'll be pleased to know another forum member "godlikegary". The car... Just hit 212k, stacks of history and its clearly been cared for in its time... I have never seen a car of this age and mileage run so well and to be truthful appear to be alot newer/lower mileage. For starters not a puff of smoke after idling, off boost, on boost and the dipstick doesnt puff either... a first for me! The decent Stuff... Spec: -16T Turbo -350cc Injectors -BSR Performance Induction Kit -Bailey Dump valve -Full samco Vacuum hoses -Ferrita Cat Back Exhaust -Koni FSD Shocks -Eibach Pro 40mm Lowering Springs -Genuine Volvo 17" Pegasus aloys refurbed very recently in Gunmetal So fairly well spec'd to start with, however there are a few bad points: -Radiator Leaks and Requires Replacement -Brakes Require Bleeding -Needs N/S/F Wheel Bearing -ABS ECU requires repair Other that that a good clean and it will be a decent car. Plans: -Fit newer 2005 16T/19T with 3" Angled Outlet -Larger Injectors -3" Intake -3" Thottle Body -Reversed Intercooler pipework -Racecat/Decat -ME7/Jap Manifold -Larger IC -Blitz Boost Controller -Remap -Replace Beige interior with dark interior -V70R Front Bumper -M56L Gearbox -850R Clutch -Gripper Diff -Poly Bushes Pics: Image Image Image Image Image

Well little update... already begun work today. Paid a visit to my local scrappies and agreed on an price for an entire Black leather interior, carpets, plastics, dash and centre console... so starting stripping it today and fitting a few of the bits I got off. Will be returning to finish removing the rest tomorrow and hopefully have it all fitted in the V70 by the end of the weekend. Image Image

Post 521071 by V70 Graham on 2012-07-05 22:35:47

Interior looks in good condition, will look great when fitted.

Post 521074 by The Flying Moose on 2012-07-05 22:37:28
Interior looks in good condition, will look great when fitted.
Truth be told the whole lot is fairly dirty and all the door cards have had a thorough clean. The seats will require some "restoration" however I still have a pot of magic chemicals which should do the trick.

Post 521317 by The Flying Moose on 2012-07-06 20:34:49

Please excuse the poor pictures... The transformation is complete! In the end I changed all the trim to the black version including dashboard. The seats I got however were so poor that I decided against using them. It has created a somewhat unique interior though both black and beige. Ill hold out for a mint dark estate interior but for now at least it looks much better. Oh and I had to enlist a helper (T5RPete) as the dash was blooming heavy! Post 521327 by vaderboyo on 2012-07-06 20:51:18

nice, is the dash swap a big job in terms of time?

Post 521339 by The Flying Moose on 2012-07-06 21:11:06
nice, is the dash swap a big job in terms of time?
It took around 3 hours to do, its quite a fiddly job and believe it or not you need to delve into the engine bay remove the scuttle guard and wiper motors before it will come out. However that is the hardest part, after that 20 or so torx bolts and its out.

Post 521523 by T5RPete on 2012-07-07 16:02:10

I honestly thought you'd lost the plot when you started removing the scuttle and wipers to do the dash! Good job you knew how to do it, i'd have never guessed!

Bloody good effort there lads, the dash is something I'm not keen on tampering with. But then mine's a temperamental P2 that's likely to throw a code as soon as I fart in the bloody thing lol.

A little update, the car has been leaking water lately so time for a thorough investigation. Turns out the radiator and one of the turbo coolant pipes had sheared and was causing a substancial water loss (emptying expansion tank every 5 minutes!) So back on the ramps... Image Image Image Oh and of course the Aircon rad was ditched too when the radiator came out as its broken anyhow.

Few more little jobs done today, the car is nearing its MOT and as its a Volvo it needs allsorts! To start with however was the drop links, one was bent and the other severly perished. I had noticed the handling was somewhat vague so this should certainly sharpen it up a little. Image Image So as an experiment I decided to purchase a pair of "ebay special" drop links £10 for the pair. They appear to be quite good quality, I guess only time will tell but the joints have little play which is a start over the previous. Just been out for a drive and it feels considerably more "controlled". Image

Post 533600 by MoleT-5R on 2012-08-30 05:06:04

reasonably priced and look as if there up to the job.....

News Flash! Had Greg over to the cave last night, really good to catch up again mate! As ever your car was looking and driving the part even with a slipping clutch. Fingers crossed we have located your knocking and solved your little leak... As for my heap, popped to the scrap yard today for a couple of spares and picked myself up a £5 special... a shiny new grill. Image Image

Well another little update... Just returned from a trip to the lakes, completed nearly 900 miles in total without a hitch. Image Time for a change once again, I decided as nice as it was the two tone beige/grey interior wasnt working so now (except cup holder) the dark interior is pretty much complete, just two bits of trim left to change. Picked up an R interior including carpets for a bargain price and fitted it today. SO from this: Image To this: Image To the now finished product: Image Image Now just the MOT preparations to sort...!
