We have just arrived back from York after a few days brake after watching our daughter graduate at Huddersfield Uni. She was a bit cheesed off because she thought Professor Sir Patrick Stewart was going to shake her hand, and then found out he wasn't going to be there. He did the three other graduations but not hers. He was there all week shaking hands with the graduates save for the slot after lunch, so she was a bit disappointed not to shake is hand. We then drove up to York and dropped her and her boy friend off at the station, and the went to a very nice little pub called The Lord Nelson in Nether Poppleton, and stopped on their caravan site for 2 nights. It was really peaceful and the food in the pub was great. So that's why we haven't been around for a while.

Sounds good. Tis a shame she didn't get to meet captain picard though.

Hope you managed to relax q little, the runup to a graduation can be hectic. Jean Luc or not, it must have been good to be there mate.

I used to live in a little cottage in the corner of Ferrymans Walk which is right opposite the Nelson, nice pub - had a lock in the first night we went there lol. Good beer garden with a bouncy castle for the kids. Couldve had a mini meet as there a few of us in York .

Thanks all, I can recommend The Lord Nelson the food is really good, this is what we had for dinner on Thursday evening. We had two nights of peace and quiet. Mrs PA went for a wander and passed Ferryman's Cottage. We were going to the National Railway Museum but Mrs PA was really tired after all the pressure and driving, so we just stayed around the village. The pub would be a great place to hold a meet. Number One daughter has just left with BF heading to a wedding near Southampton then home to the Isle of Wight. We are now going to have a nice laid back day.:funkybana

The Lord Collingwood in Upper Poppleton is also quite nice. Was ideal when I lived there as the post office/shop was opposite the pub on the corner of Ferrymans Walk (now a house), there is a little Spar shop and butchers round the corner though. I lived in a little shoebox called Stable Cottage (not as posh as the surrounding houses lol) Image
