I regret never doing this for the Cougar, but I thought I'd start a W.I.P. thread for the C70.This is how it looks as I bought it: Image First 2 jobs done today. First off replaced the top engine mount (which was FUBARed) with a powerflex one: Image Next up, fitted an induction kit kindly given to me by V70Graham: Image I'll update as I go. :D

Post 527597 by V70 Graham on 2012-07-27 17:39:13

Deffo needed that top mount done mate, the induction kit looks good, sorry it wasn't in Orange

O.K., did a couple of little things before the meet yesterday, first up was to replace the n/s headlight which had a hole in the glass, yet again V70Graham has come to my aid, and given me his old head lights (I really do owe you big time mate). So, old headlight: Image New (old) headlight: Image And in the search for more power, I've fitted these, guaranteed for at least 10bhp: Image Got to love aero wipers. More mods to follow, when I have the money ;)

Post 536802 by stribo on 2012-09-14 21:35:23

Today I fitted a boost gauge, so I teed into the pipe coming out the inlet manifold and (hopefully) going to the recirc valve: Image Then routed it around the engine bay: Image And through a spare grommet to the drivers footwell: Image Then mounted the gauge in an A pillar pod and wired it into the light switch. This is the result: Ignition off Image Ignition on Image Took it out for a test run, and the gauge only reads up to .2 bar pressure, and down to -.2 bar vacuum. I'm wondering if the pipe's being squashed where it goes between the A pillar trim and the dash top, but don't know where else to route it (any suggestions welcome). This is how I have it currently: Image Also does anyone know the best way of fixing the pod to the A pillar, I'm using double sided number plate tape, but it's ended up like this: Image Would tiger seal be too extreme?

Joking abouts the seats but would look really nice tho.Have you done a remap yet?

Post 536822 by stribo on 2012-09-14 22:24:57

Not yet, got a BOV to fit first, thought it was a MBC but it turned out it wasn't, so I'll fit it in the interim, but I need the boost gauge working properly first.

Post 536835 by Kingsford G on 2012-09-14 22:48:36

Never had an MBC on suffy as don`t want it go bang if I get p1ssed off and floor it too early but had it on my t5,you do feel it.

Post 536878 by d2k on 2012-09-15 11:47:14

hi Stribo.... could the boost pipes proximity to the manifold be the problem, i know my boost pipe gets very soft when its warmed up by the engine & mine is possibly expanding slightly under pressure... but mine runs along the strut brace on the P2 pretty far away from hot components yet it still suffers....im looking for something to shield it. yours is VERY close to heated components..???? just a thought. :B_thumb:, though while cold it shouldn't be an issue.

Post 536893 by t5 pete on 2012-09-15 13:31:36

First of remove the T peice and fit the gauge hose to the tree above the throttle body also 100% change the routing best place to have it run is from the vacume tree to the front pannel and all the way around behind the ecu box etc and through the fire wall, also what size pipe is it and is there any strength as a smaller harder pipe will just do the same job and work better

Post 536898 by stribo on 2012-09-15 14:26:37

It's 4mm pipe, but quite soft, I'll try and get some hard stuff. Anyone know the best place to get it? MRP has recommended somewhere, but it's shut this afternoon.

Hi just to say 1 bar is 14 psi, I thought most gauges we're in psi. As 2 bar (28 psi)max that is a lot of boost. What boost is standard on your motor?.

Post 536930 by Shadow on 2012-09-15 20:12:27

if your looking for some good pipe then go to the scrappy and find a mk2/3 golf they have air actuated central lockin and look under the carpet there loads of thin bendy plastic pipe goin from the boot to each door. ihad the same problem with the boost guage in my 480 and it was the hose calapsing under vacuum when it got hot.

Post 536968 by Kingsford G on 2012-09-15 23:32:58

All u need is the right hose and do a propper job, fitted 2 so far no probs at all.Come to esse meet Stribo I`ll do for u.

Post 582422 by stribo on 2013-03-09 14:43:03

I never did an update on my boost gauge problem, it turns out there was a hole in the hose coming from the recirc valve, so once replaced by MRP it was all good. Right to today, thanks to a tip off from Iancho, I bagged myself some projector headlights off Ebay last week, and set about fitting them today. So off with old: Image A comparison between the two: Image And all fitted: Image Image Very happy with them, and as a bonus they've been converted to HID. They came with LEDs in the sidelights, but they were the cheap Ebay ones that MRP's had problems with, and didn't work, so I've put normal bulbs in for now, but will be getting some better LEDs for them, and I've got some chrome indicator bulbs coming.

Post 582423 by V70 Graham on 2013-03-09 14:51:26

Very nice Steve, makes the car look a lot newer, can I ask if your happy with the HID's ? What temperature are the bulbs ? Now PLEASE sort out that dirty, nasty number plate !

Post 582424 by Wobbly Dave on 2013-03-09 14:59:08

What bulbs are you using? I recommend getting some LED side lights - to make the colour match you dipped beam.

I'm not keen on the R bumpers on C70s, they're quite square, which doesn't match the curved lines of the car. Think they look great on the S/V70 though.

Post 646125 by stribo on 2013-09-22 20:33:46

So another week, another mod. Today was exhaust day, although not the downpipe, as that's a bit more involved. Took a couple of hours altogether, getting the old one out was the hard part, as it's one piece, and runs over the rear suspension, so I had to cut the rear hangers off, then undid the bottom shock mount, and dropped the suspension as far as possible, and I just managed to wriggle it out. Fitting the replacement Ferrita was a piece of cake, as it comes in 2 pieces, and is split above the suspension, so I could fit the front half from the front, then slide the rear part on from the rear of the car. Comparison pics: Image Image A couple of pics of it fitted: Image Image It has more of a rumble at low revs, then as the revs rise the induction noise takes over, should sound even better once the DP with sports cat is fitted.

Post 647960 by stribo on 2013-09-28 21:59:13

That's the only problem with the dials, you can't see what colour they are at night, because they're backlit. The S60R dials still look blue at night, because they're shiny, and frontlit.

Post 679580 by stribo on 2014-01-11 17:25:02

As the weather was being kind today, I thought I'd do some work on the car. It didn't go well, I planned on fitting a RIP kit I got, but it's for a ME7, I thought I'd be able to use the existing hose that fits on the throttle body, but it angles upwards, so is no good. Back to the drawing board. The coilovers have been noisy ever since I fitted them, there's a 'twanging' sound when the wheels are turned left, or right, so I thought I'd see if I could find the problem. Having stripped one side out, the only thing I could see that could be causing the noise, is where the assister spring and main spring meet each other, they must twang as they run over each other, so no joy there either. To cheer myself up from having a wasted afternoon, and because the front tyres are almost down to their limit, I fitted then Pegs that have been cluttering up my garage (along with the tyres). So off I go to the tyre place to get the new tyres I already have fitted, whilst queuing I suddenly realise I can't remember putting the locking wheel bolt key back in the car. :slap: I get home, and can't find it anywhere even though I remember taking it off the last wheel I put on, I can't remember seeing it after that. Dementia is obviously taking a hold. :( Anyway even though they're quite tatty at the moment (they're being refurbed in the spring) they don't look too bad. :D Image Oh and the front brake pads haven't got much meat left on them, so I'll be ordering some Ferodo DS2500s.
Got a spare few minutes this morning so fitted the gearknob I got from Siamblue. The old one put up a bit of a fight, and I couldn't pull it off, so I twisted it until the locating tab broke, then it popped off quite easily. Luckily the new one is held on with grub screws. :) Image Just going to see if I can find a black gaiter now.
Whats that worth...........1-2 bhp :)
Just going to see if I can find a black gaiter now.
get some black dye. Thatll sort it
Which would be best, as I don't think it's proper leather, so I guess leather dyd wouldn't work.
Whats that worth...........1-2 bhp :)
That's going to speed up my gear changes by 0.00000000000000000000000001 seconds. ;)

Gear knob looks good and I don't think it looks that out of place against the gaiter tbh.. :)

So the latest mod was supposed to be just a do88 intercooler, but because of the rad springing a leak when the new intercooler was fitted, I bought a do88 rad as well. After everything was stripped out: Image Needless to say the old radiator put up a fight when I was trying to remove it, and the captive threaded bosses came away from the front cross member, so it all had to be cut off, but the new one went on easily with new stainless nuts and bolts: Image Next up was the intercooler and air con radiator/condensor: Image Again, not simple, as with the new radiator, and intercooler, therewasn't enough clearance for the air con rad, so after a little surgery, I had enough clearance: Image Next up a bit of surgery to the front panel, from this: Image To this: Image Also relocated the horns: Image Got it all back together, and once the starting problem was sorted, bled the cooling system, and topped up with oil. So with all the shiny shiny I've fitted, it looks like this: Image Yep, you can't see any of it :slap: but hopefully with the other mods in the pipeline, it'll help, and to be fair, anyone who'e fitted a set of forged rods or pistons, or other internals can't see them anyway, just knowing they're there is what matters, along with how they perform. Next up, RIP kit. :D

Will be doin the intercooler fit this weekend, the TNS one is even thicker than the Do88 one so to save hassle and time we will prob remove the air con rad. I know it will all fit but it's a ball ache as there is less room than on an 850 and there is problems with headlamp wiper/fan shroud clearance I'm told with the TNS.

I was wondering about mine, looks like I'll need to cut it back also to avoid the wipers. Well done for getting it all in!

Well, after waiting for all the bits to come together, yesterday was turbo change time, first off, it was time to get rid of the old exhaust manifold in favour of a Jap ME7 one (japanifold): Image then on with the 18t :D: Image Next up was the ferrita downpipe with 200 cell sports cat: Image Image Luckily I also had a GWE intake pipe, as the old one was shot, though fitting the GWE one was a right PITA, obviously no R&D went into it: Image Image So, how does it sound? how does it go? No idea, was planning on firing it up this morning and giving it a shake down, but Rachel's been running a temperature since Thursday afternoon, and unable to keep food down, so I've had to drop her off at the hospital this morning.:( Hopefully it'll all be up and running properly in time for Trax. Talking of which, fitted DS2500 pads and braided hoses to the front a few weeks ago, just have the rear hoses and handbrake shoes to do.

Wow, can't believe it's been nearly 2 years since I updated this thread. Anyway, after a long time bouncing around on cheap Pro sport coilovers, I've taken the plunge, and bought a set of BCs. Image Can't wait to get them fitted, I'll report back once they're on. :D

She looks great mate always liked that Saffron such a unique colour! Nice wheels too CANISTO are 'the dogs dangly bits' much better looking than ANY of the other Volvo wheels which look and feel heavy. Have to get 2 of mine welded now as a small hairline crack appeared leading to slow punctures :((( I MUST get a boost gauge for the C70 and make time to do improvements on her. Going for a remap and uprated injectors (orange) funny enough! Also may go for the larger CHRA upgrade with the turbo. as I fitted to the 'tank' V70. Took out the blown one and fitted a larger compressor assembly that's guaranteed trouble is having a girlfriend now that gets expensive so the options.......keep the car OR dump the gf...................NO CONTEST hahahaha

Post 809904 by stribo on 2017-02-22 15:24:35

Luckily I don't have that problem, as my wife is into cars too, in my signature pic, she's in the S60R, and she beat me, but it was damp, and she had AWD lol. Yeah, I like the Canistos, just unsure whether to leave them on the V70R, or get another set of Comets for it, probably stick with the Canistos for now. If you're going for uprated injectors, you'll want blues, though you should have them already, oranges were used on the early T5s, and LPT cars.
