Mark2 will of course start to go up in value quicker than a MK3. I had steering issues with my MK3, but that might just have been my car. Which varient are you thinking about?

be prepared for oil leaks and lots of them, tbh the mk3 gti is quite gutless compared to the earlier models, they are also quite thirsty for what they are

I've had possibly every golf model going from 1.3 mk1 to 2.8 vr6 mk3 17 in total including a rallye and G60 limited (very rare) if its for a daily drive buy a good Mk2 16 valve, probably one of the best handling cars ever made, and still quick enough for some fun. IMO

To be fair the budget is whatever the Beemer goes for so not sure yet it's only at 215 with a few hours to go

I'd have a mk3 personally, mk2 is to old for a daily drive.

I`ve had them all,4 just in mk 2 sti`s 1.8 8v and never came across any 16v etc that would beat my last oak green one but as far as I remember the PAS was introduced on 91-92 models not sure of ABS brakes tho I think on 92 models thats when they changed to mk3.Basically mk2 is better built but mk 3 more extras and comfortable for a female.Had mk 3 tdi with 175k that was pulling really well and good on fuel.
