Greetings all! As luck would have it I may have the opportunity to spend the next three years working for the US Government just outside of London. As they will move my beloved 97 850T-5 for me, I want to be sure that I can in fact find service for it prior to me bring the car over. Also, as it will have to pass MOT before I can drive it, is it a simple checking all lamps and a OBDII test or more intensive?
Your advice, opinions, and welcomes will be most appreciated. For an idea of what I have done to my car, visit 850concepts.com .
Cheers,
Stephen

Sounds a fantastic car , I would be tempted to leave it at home and buy Justins so you have RHD for over here + 300bhp.

Can you fill it with some cheap / select spares before you get it shipped?!!! ;)

It's going to be tough enough for me to learn to drive on the left side of the street, let alone on the "right" side of the car. That and have you seen the exchange rate lately? I'd have to sell my left kidney to afford a pint of beer :).

Sounds a lucrative job that you have yourself if they are willing to ship your beloved T5 over with you!!
How long would you expect to be over here??

Welcome to the UK. I hope you enjoy your time here.
Are those 16s polished alloy or have you chromed them as they are ultra shiny?
How the hell do you keep 'em like that?
Elbow grease I guess.
Have fun! :wavey:

Hello...hope you enjoy the UK.
Can you bring one of the new V8 Mustangs with you???

The 16s were aftermarket chromed but came that way from the dealer. I swapped the 16s for 7x17 Oz Racing Superleggaras. The job would be with the US Government so not only do they ship me, my wife, and my car, they also foot the bill for my flat, electric, heating gas, and even give a bit of a VAT exemption (YAY). My length of stay would be around three years, just long enough to figure out this thing you guys have called "football" and "rugby" (Go Manchester United is it?)

Brilliant. As I'll be shipping "household" goods too, along comes my spring compressors, box-end wrenches, sockets, and all my other usable metric tools. I love these cars for how easy it is to work on them. Personally I have:
1. Installed front Bilstein yellow struts with TME springs
2. Installed front Koni coil-overs
3. Installed rear Bilstein yellow shocks with TME springs
4. Installed 3" downpipe with cat and/or straight pipe
5. Installed TME cat-back exhaust
6. Replaced all fluids including Oil, ATF, radiator
It's not quite as easy as my 245DL, but close enough :). So are there opportunities to my fellow Volvo mates on occasion? How about a nice, legal strip of road to gather my top speed and "1/4 mile" time?

Right now my application is in the "Refered with other candidates" group so it's possible, just not sure how possible. Of course I have to start planning now so I can make a quick yes if the offer does come through. That and I have to save for the carbon fibre hood, valve cover, and vacuum cover. (www.ipdusa.com and www.eurosporttuning.com).

lol once you've been over here for more than a week, it'll become clear that theres nothing to learn about English football OR rugby in London and you'll have to put in another transfer request to get moved up north to Newcastle!!!!
As for the car mate, very nice! Not sure how easy it will be to get through the UK MOT tho... emissions may be the biggest problem? adjusting headlight beam etc should be simple enough but the emission laws over here are quite different to the US from what I understand but I could be wrong?!?!?!

headlights are a doddle lol just buy a set of uk lenses for the headlights genuine one for my 940 was £35 just take trim off around the light pop of the clips and clip the new lens on not sure about 850 though

My emissions shouldn't be too hard, as I have had to pass California's impossible smog tests. I even have TWO O2 sensors on my car so I should pass twice as well as anyone else. And I don't mind about the headlights as it would give me an excuse to pick up some "E-code" lenses instead of these horrible US ones.
