Guys, My car had a minor leak which I couldn't idenitfiy after cleaning the oil off; however, we just had a cold spell, and now oil is running out of the hole at the bottom of the flywheel casing. Does anone have an idea of which seal might have gone, as I have a horrible feeling that the gearbox will need to be removed in order to replace it? Thanks in advance.

It could be either engine oil or clutch fliud.

Does it smell like engine oil or gear box oil. If it engine oil more than likely it will be crank seal or the core type plug ,not good news. You are loseing brake fluid if it's a manual as it could be the slave clyinder leaking fluid.

It is engine oil. I have lost at least one dipstick marking so far. :-(

Sounds like rear oil seal then mate, but check it is actually coming out of the bellhousing, and not running down the back of the engine and off of the bellhousing.

Yes, it was unfortunately the rear engine seal as well as an oil stop that had gone, and cost me just under €800 to get repaired. :-(

New clutch at the same time ?

Luckily the clutch was still good, plus I didn't have an extra €400 floating around...
