Hi to all those reading my post, Im newbie as far as volvo`s go, so here it goes , iv bought this saffy, i washed, claybared and wax her straight away. The pcv system was already done by the previous owner :-) Have also got paperwork to say the car has a rica ecu re-map Its only done 109k for a 97 car and still feels tight. Iv removed and replaced the plugs, leads, cap and rotor Removed the front pipe and cat, removed the internals of the cat and re-fitted so free-flowing and de-cat`d, sounds awesome, cheap temp mod until i have the money to purchase a proper de-cat pipe. Replaced the fuel pump with a high-flow 255 pump and there is a noticable difference in the higher RPM. Fitted a new internal boost gauge. Had all the engine sensors and injectors scoped to make sure all is well and working within the parameters, thanks to a pico scope, what an awesome peice of kit. Has a diy r.i.p kit fitted until i can afford the real thing lol. Replaced the actuator as wouldnt hold more than 12psi without bleeding off, now that one wont hold more than 15psi lol but at least shes moving a tad better :-) New actuator on order. Replaced the vac lines. Removed and cleaned the turbo and housing, no play in turbo and the housing is crack free. The exhaust manifold has been machined internally to allow free`er flowing gases. Have fitted an mbc. Also made my own intake kit so save some money, just a test atm and only had a short time to spend on it, cost me around £40 and have tested it and has seemed to make the throttle response quite abit more responsive over the standard air box and piping. Im using the standard top intake hose from the front of the grill, including the part that goes into the bottom of the air box, im also running a 75mm diameter air duct tube from the o/s/f bottom grill upto the front of the gearbox to enable plenty of cold air to lower the chances of heat soak. Took it for a drive and sounds pretty cool for the money, pleanty of chatter from the turbo, not too noisey and better throttle response. Just gotta make abit better when i get time. A few pics of her upto date Will keep you upto date, thanks for looking

Post 557398 by S70RESSEX on 2012-12-30 21:05:38
welcome , love the sound of a deact , wouldnt bother with a proper decat pipe , theres a lad on here called greame who makes 3inch downpipes with a decat if thats any good
I found having a Straight pipe welded in she spat flames easier lol, and the noise was a little more, I prefer the straight tube to be welded in, but knocking the cat through serves the purpose, and as seen in the vid lol sounds pritty good on boooost lol ;)

Post 557423 by Kingsford G on 2012-12-30 22:38:56

I coulod swear the actuator help 17psi no probs mate but as a result of not using her much could`ve gone hard and cracked membrane.Sound really good.Glad the turbo is good tho.

Post 557443 by merc85 on 2012-12-30 23:44:11

Original actuator was tested and wouldnt sustain any pressure for long, (like you said) "a result of not using her much could`ve gone hard and cracked membrane" . With the vac line disconnected from the actuator it wouldn't hold boost. Turbo intercooler, and associated pipes have all been checked and up graded where needed, i've since lent him a spare actuator atm whilst he waits for the new replacment one. All these cars are getting old old these sorts of items are prone to wear out with age and mileage. The car is certainly being loved and performance is very very good even with my spare actuator fitted Now holding 15psi.
quite a bit more than his miniscule 319nms lol
But mines only 3.2 litres so just thought a big 5.4 would be pushing over 400 bhp easily. M5's with a 4.9 ltr push out 400bhp

As much as i love the e39 m5, frankies amg would make the better long distance car. One of the reasons being that it produces a lot of torque low down. also it does 60-100mph in 6 seconds, which is damn good for a big old cruiser.

Can be picked up for around £ 16000 now as we'll. When my car was in having a service, an m5 was there with vanos issues, £3500 for new ones!!!!!

I test drove a couple and had my heart set on getting one, but my head said I couldn't really as it's not a cheap car to maintain compared to an M3 ( which isn't cheap either but better than the M5) fuel consumption 15mpg the norm, no good for me as it would of been used daily. My M3 is a great substitute and puts a smile on my face even after a year of ownership, even though I've spent more than £4000 on her on top of the purchase price and not including 10000 miles of v-power fuel lol.

It doesn't always have to be a fast car, but it's nice if it is lol. Mine rarely gets abused, I just plod along in sixth gear and cruise at 70-80 mph on my way to work on the dual carriageway. It's my second car so bought just for me and not the family. Have no intentions of selling in the near future, but when the time comes it will be replaced by an E39 M5.

My 940 is my second car and I love that car because of its retro looks a bit old school and it a bit of a car that I can build things myself and enjoy it too.
