just wondering if anyone has had this problem before? my mates 94 reg 850 manual has a noise coming from the gearbox when driving, its not a clunking its like a bearing noise and the sound seems to be coming from the box and not the wheel bearing

Check the gearbox oil level, If it whines in all gears it`s more and likely a dif brg.

Post 558278 by brett5 on 2013-01-02 14:28:11

it does wine in all gears and oil been changed

Post 558280 by oblark on 2013-01-02 14:31:55

Post 558302 by oblark on 2013-01-02 16:30:28
Are you sure it's not the clutch bearing
Wont the clutch brg make a noise when the clutch is depressed

Post 558306 by brett5 on 2013-01-02 16:47:05

Post 558311 by oblark on 2013-01-02 16:51:18

I still think it`s a dif brg, either turn the radio up  or change the box if one turns up
i have a nice 2.0 20v box on my s70r :wave23d:
should get a quicker 1/4 time with that box then bud.

Post 558389 by T5frankie on 2013-01-02 20:26:02
should get a quicker 1/4 time with that box then bud.
so far 0.1 second slower

Post 558400 by p fandango on 2013-01-02 20:34:36

i'm going for longer ratios, less gearchanges

Post 558405 by WOODY T5 on 2013-01-02 20:48:31
i'm going for longer ratios, less gearchanges
think that`s wot i got without knowing

Post 558424 by merc85 on 2013-01-02 21:27:02
so far 0.1 second slower
be quicker with a diff mate

Post 558428 by smithy on 2013-01-02 21:47:52
so far 0.1 second slower
Your car was not running right and no one got a good time that day so no comparison really .the car was very quick of the mark and don of kalmor union pulled a 14.2 with less power tan with the same box lol.

Post 558430 by smithy on 2013-01-02 21:49:50
think that`s wot i got without knowing
The is no way you could get into 4th gear 3/4 of the strip with a standard box mate

Post 558435 by smithy on 2013-01-02 22:04:25
Wont the clutch brg make a noise when the clutch is depressed
The clutch can be noisy when the clutch is not pressed but can go quiet when using the clutch .just putting the idea out there because ive has a few n/a boxes and never had one go or become noisy and I raced them silly in the day lol.

Post 558445 by T5frankie on 2013-01-02 22:24:44
The is no way you could get into 4th gear 3/4 of the strip with a standard box mate
yes you can, cos he is doing alot more mph 3/4 up the strip

Post 558447 by T5frankie on 2013-01-02 22:25:17
be quicker with a diff mate
it wouldnt actually i was getting my best starts with one wheel drive lol

Post 558450 by smithy on 2013-01-02 22:29:12
yes you can, cos he is doing alot more mph 3/4 up the strip
That is my point mate he would have to have shorter gears to put the car in 4th that early to still power like he does because you could not do that with a t5 box because you are going into 4th just by the finish line
It must be a t5 one as it hit 163 @6200revs in top on the private road p.s revs to7k
I would like to check the number on the box mate because peeps with a similar setup to you cannot get into 4th were you do mate.but don't get me wrong your car is very quick and you are the bench mark for everyone to beat .
It must be a t5 one as it hit 163 @6200revs in top on the private road p.s revs to7k
yep, thats a standard M56H with the normal T-5's 4.00 FDR. With your limiter at 7k it'll do 185mph (checked all with a gear-ratio calculator)
Must have more power then it says mate
The power you are getting is what you would expect for that turbo and the other mods you have but I still think its not a t5 box mate.i cannot wait for the new season to see you get into 12s but I will find out if the is a number on the box that identifys what box is what out of interest that's all.

My box has a FDR of 3.57 & a 5th of 0.65 :)
I will find out if the is a number on the box that identifys what box is what out of interest that's all.
there is a small white rectangular sticker on the box which in the top right corner has the FDR printed onto it, unfortunately being open to the elements most of the stickers either come off or the info comes off

Post 558500 by smithy on 2013-01-02 23:26:11

The must be something stamped in the casting too but it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a sticker though
