ok so as most know ive now owned this black t5r for two years or so and its barely moved this last year so it has 118k on the clockive been biulding up some stuff to do my overhaul/upgrades.. so thought id start a thread before i start fitting ect as im sure im going to need advice along the way lol so when i bought the car she was completly standard apart from a pipercross panel filter so i guess we start there with a picture Image so all i done was drove her all be it quick in standard form i started wanting a bit more lol the brakes are terrible and she needed front arms so this was done first and helped a lot..but then i noticed she was poping out of second every now and again mostly on approach to juntions when dropping through gears which gradually became a second gear crunch so with this i parked her up and started to concentrate on what i want the car to become... so into the drive she went with the occasinal squirt round the estate ect.and the buying began well i was sidetraked when bought the s60R didnt last long tho as i preferd to fight with the 850 rather than relax in the 60 so it was sold Image then i started to tinker with few bits in the drive....this is my biggest downfall as ive threatend to biuld a leantoo roof ect over my drive but never actually done it would love the car protected from the elements and would be a great space for working on it ect this list included clear side repeaters from s70 changed all interior switches to grey from a 70 had to strip and rebiuld them all BSR induction kit and surround ALPINE cde-103bt head unit with ipod still need a pc9-414 cable to plug in the volvo subwoofer 850R front and rear seats genuine volvo 850 strut brace quick shift kit new areial mast sourced my missing rear yellow 850 carpet mat and purchased some black rubber volvo trays changed some interior bulbs to led type also bought a 850R rear spoiler from america sourced on volvospeed forums fitted s70 roof strips they have biut in water stops on the screen dosent come in driver window lol s60 washer jets better spray pattern i also masked off recoloured all my grey bumper and door strips some pictures off this procedure lol aslo changed a couple of door strips as they where slightly out of shape and always caught my eye lol Image Image Image Image Image the more eagle eyed will noticed i also stared playing with the headlights and indicators blacked out some of the reflector in the headlights removed the headlight wipers as they are a pain always staining my bonnet in the sun when washing the screen with the wipers lol when this was done indicators looked to bright so started experimenting with these which resulted in a blackish outline by spray the gap round the lense i think it looks good dont know if its just because the car is black or what but the modern volvos have this now lol so isnt out of place Image Image Image this is the end result also done my grill black with outer chrome lip tried all black didnt like it Image heres it all black Image so its last outing was some pics with my freinds s70R he is nordicR on here Image Image Image so its now in the drive again and has been neglected a bit but will easy turn round agin with some love ect since then i have now sourced an m59 and shafts new 850R sachs clutch 05 16t with angled 3" out me7 mani H&R lowering springs a v70 awd 3" angled downpipe white injectors brackets from dallhousie for front megane 225 fourpots and rear brackets for porschse boxster fourpot rears got stainless braided lines and some rbf brakefluid for a flush new gtx castrol for engine and some service bits going to full stage 0 her inc new leads s70 handles to be coloured coded black new avon zv5s nice reg number for her too WIJ 188 bought some wheel nut covers in black chrome effect and literally as soon as the weather allows im getting stuck in so still to source i need megane 225 front callipers boxster rear callipers cat back system >have this priced up will be powerflow i think< outward rolled tip some intercooler reverse piping will make it if i have too ecu map undecided but fancy turbotuner biggest problem i face ist that the m59 speedo runs of abs sensors on my m56 its cable driven kerryt5r has told me the boxes can be split and front casings changed so as the m59 will run a cable tho ive seen some stuff by merc and pedro on changing clocks to run sensor driven speedo???? so need some advice on this matter and any recomendations on upgrades will be great! so this is the start of my motivation the get the car sorted for summer for sure!

ok so my delivery from pfv arrived with my little bag of pear drops mmm Image got stuck in changed evrthing on the mechanical side just fluids to do next oil .power steering fluid.water and coolant on the down side went to fit my alpine cde103bt and somthing happend not sure popped into house to get my ipod to try the sound as i also got a pc9-414 audio lead to connect the alpine to the volvo original amp Image Image ...not sure of the benifits but read on voc helps a lot. anyway got back to the car radio now wont work..will have another fiddle tommorrow all live wires ect are they should be so could be the radio..had it fitted in the missus civic then lay in a cupboard for a while this upset me as it was a gift from my dad who is not with us 16 months or so,, another reason why i lost motivation in cars in general to be honest so car got new plugs and leads new distributor and rotor bsr cleaned and oiled fluids next day or so

Post 644694 by martybelfastt5 on 2013-09-16 11:36:12

had a good fiddle with the radio last night and really confused as the ignition live was down/wrong lol found ignition live and the radio wasnt connected to it lol...had this head unit in and worked perfectly before with no issues..but have put it down to whoever wired it originally as they have just cut in and joined wires/piggybacked off the loom so taiknig it all out repairing heat shrinking it all and have orederd the proper conversion leads put it in right and have done with it .

so been getting stuck in last couple of days went and bought a doner car with 69k on it as mine started showing signs of rust lol yes rust....so had somthing like a 400 mile journey to get it and home again car does still need some paint but bonnet boot lid and other panels are originally black so no need to do intire panels inside and out.. they are in much better condition than mine....also the wiring harness for my radio came so sorted the mess behind my radio and installed radio mic and ipod now concealed in the armrest ..not a problem for the alpine cde103 bt as it can control ipod from head unit also has bluetooth for hands free ect. bits ive taken/taking from donor car are bonnet passenger wing two passenger doors bootlid driver rear door undecided but slight bubbling on mine varios trim pieces and clips ect so pictures below are my wig being taken off and reason wing off= Image reason its off Image close up see it creep up the wing how i noticed Image donnor car starting stripping Image wing thats replacing mine dent free Image even the inner bracket that was hold it was rusting so replaced that Image also while off noticed some surface rust behind the wing run off got some treatment for it and seen to it Image used this Image give it a good wire brushing then applied and left to dry 20mins Image after dried sprayed over it Image donnor wing fitted and lined ...lined well from old markings where bolts where Image then proceeded to fit both donor doors rear was tricky as wasnt electric not to hard to sort really donnor car had a pin stripe which i havent removed as it helps line the panels some slight adjusting to do but altogather a good job Image got my son 8 years old son envolved let him rebiuld the donnor lol he was a great help lining panels ect fetching tools lol Image more tommorrow!

coming along nicely

Post 648691 by martybelfastt5 on 2013-09-30 20:21:30

so done another bit today my handbake just stopped working not quite sure when think only one wheel was holding when she was parked so time to investagate ....pulled of one of my rear discs to see what was going on in there was shocked by what i found lol ......not a drop of pad compound! Image so needless to say phoned the local motor factor orderd some shoes had to wait a few hours on them coming in then got stuck in changing them nice write up on voc that helped as it was my first time doing them new pads on and adjuster cleaned and oiled for adjustment Image old shoes vrs the new shoes no wonder handbrake wasnt working lol Image new shoes fitted and awaiting disc back on and adjusting...... Image once id done this was getting kinda dark and decided to pull her out give her a wash and now the handbrake is back to perfection........couple of shots Image Image last one shows the other halfs leon 2.0 tfsi in the pic no diesels for us lol............. Image oh on another note may be of use to others as mentioned hate that she is out in the elements and wanted to do a carport ect may have found the perfect solution orderd this from the bay looks quite good and great price at the minute £139 down from £199 so didnt hesitate and bought one will do a thread on it when it arrives but should protect her nicely http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Polytunnel-Galvanised-Frame-6m-x-3m-Greenhouse-Pollytunnel-Poly-Tunnel-6-Section-/130851842524?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e7760a9dc the perfect width for my drive and should have plenty of room round the car get an outdoor tube light and it might even hold heat lol..........think il lay some cheap lino and carpet tiles for the tyre tracks should be well worth the money!

Post 648695 by AndysR on 2013-09-30 20:25:45

Looking stunning Martin, can't believe those rear shoes though :0

Coming along nicely mate.Mind u,I need to to brakes on mine too

Post 648927 by martybelfastt5 on 2013-10-01 18:19:42

my own brakes all round need doing but as listed going the 225 front and boxster rear ....have the calliper brakets and braided lines and fluid just callipers to get missed a set for the front on the bay few days back endend at 160 real clean ones too......am slighty worried tho really dont want to change my titans and if they dont fit il not be a happy bunny lol

Post 687087 by martybelfastt5 on 2014-02-04 19:42:25

so some updates need to push this on again still been getting bits and pieces gatherd up and on a good note the titans are sold and to be collected next week or two and im onto a set of 17"pegs although they are silver will do for now.......car will run steel rims for mot ect the the brakes and pegs will be fitted...i have placed my order for my catback now graheme has jiged up the 850 and already have this Image as you can see its angled 200cell with 3"outlet as the turbo i got from tfm is 3"out 16T off an s60 Image also treated her to a new battery Image and whilst getting this nipped into maplin and bought this they are on offer at the minute at 12.50 its a solar trickle charger... Image so im going to arrange her to go have fitted M59 S60R manifold 16t white injectors downpipe and cat back when it arrives on the next note i need a clutch kit and cant for love nor money get a sachs kit anywhere here i have priced the luk item and am told its oem equivelant and high quality any thoughts? once these bits are done i am going to do a fluid change/refresh on the brake try get them so no probs for mot and get this car on the road!

Post 690155 by p fandango on 2014-02-18 22:34:42

yes that gasket goes between the manifold & the turbo. You do know the coolant pipes will need "adjusting" to fit as the they are in a slightly different place on me7 cars compared to 850's

Post 690171 by martybelfastt5 on 2014-02-18 23:36:03

yes aware of this pedro ........must check the turbo think it came with some lines but should be too hard to sort

Post 690178 by siamblue on 2014-02-19 00:22:09

My KKK24 came with a gasket too manifold but all of my TD series did not.so maybe it has something to do with the exh manifold?

Post 690243 by partsforvolvos.com on 2014-02-19 13:57:54

hi martin, yes I did get it for the manifold to turbo connection where it should be fine. sorry if I had a confused moment?

Post 690245 by partsforvolvos.com on 2014-02-19 13:58:58

there is a downpipe gasket listed as well, do you need it, or are you doing something bespoke

ok so she is off to the workshop ! :funkybana left her round tonight with my volvo man to have done-- m59 and shafts new clutch kit front anti roll bar changed drop links s60R manifold and metal gasket 16t from s60 with 3" housing white injectors h&r springs fitted 3"downpipe and the catback system fitted new fuel filter and pollen filter fresh gearbox oil few pics from getting her ready put the rubber mats in and a seat cover Image getting bits ready Image 16t Image tailpipe style i choose Image il get some pics of her mid work ect but should be back on the road whitin the next couple of weeks on another note i also bought myself this little bad boy lol Image Image now might have jumped the gun a bit on this as its a rotary polisher and i should have bought a dual action polisher/ D.A as the D.A is basically idiot proof lol this machine can very easily leave swirls/holagrams and burn paint ect so it will be slow going till i get a good method and am confident using it but i intend of giving my car a great finish that can only be achvied trough machine polishing ect so i will learn lol

Great update Marty, can't wait for the next updates and ultimately your thoughts on the conversion :) On a side note be interesting to see what your thoughts are on the polisher once you've used it, been considering one myself :) Tailpipe choice is perfect, all these outwardly rolled pipes appearing.. :)

mate have the stuff to put the brembos front and back would have liked 17s in the pegs but 18s will suffice.........they will also be refurbed in anthricite/grey just hoping i get away with the 40 profile tyres as the conti sports are as good as new on them might need to drop to 35 tho as it wont be a daily drive i dont mind sacrificing a bit of comfort as some of the 850s on 18s ive researced look awsome

Post 720588 by martybelfastt5 on 2014-06-23 21:54:50

I spent many years on a DA before moving to a rotary. Need to use lots of lube & not press to hard or run too fast. I spread on the lowest speed & do 1 or 2 passes on each. Buy some 3M tape & tape up your edges. Unlike the DA method where you might go fwd & back in overlapping straight lines - I tend to sweep back and forth, raising & lowering my back hand, much like a floor polisher (if you've ever used one) - so that the top & bottom edge of the pad moves the head for you. prep the pad before you start with some dilute QD. I spritz the pad & run it slow speed against my hand. Between passes I spritz the area being worked with the dilute QD (1 in 10 is plenty).

ok small update on this all parts are fitted as some will know i have a gearbox /clutch noise when pedal released the wheels are on and rubbing the inner arches slighty:doh: the exhaust has been a pure pain in the ass but is on and quiet ect this is down to the downpipe to cat back join pieces they are belled out and i cant find a clip to suit for the life of me have spent maybe 80 quid on ones ive binned or cut up to try and resolve it temporarily i have done so successfully today had to put on two 5 mil spacers on the rear was rubbing ever so slighty now not cleaned the headcloth made an inpressive difference the wheel alignment needs set as do the headlights then a brake fluid change then it will be motd now to the bad bit the car has been fustrating me so much i think ive had enough and may well sell the car when its motd im by no means turning my back on volvo but think im done with the 850 sad day could change my mind but at this minute in time dont see that happening on performance it dosent feel as quick to me as it should i will investagate this before i sell a picture of how she sits below including the melting exhaust joint i cant sort Image Image once motd ect il get some proper pictures of her up but they may well be the pictures of her for sale ad

ok so time for an update and yes i had a wobble and considerd selling the car but it soon passed and i apoligised to the the car lol not much to update on really i havent been using the car daily so its only done couple of hundred miles and is now motd..it failed on front arms and i put in a set of genuine volvo items..the car after arms is driving great on the down side my 40 profile tyres are rubbing slightly front and back 5mm spacers sorted rear out fronts have scrubbed through my arch liners so i have sourced a set from a local scrappy that took in a 2.5 20v glt saloon i will replace the tyres with 225 35 18 toyos also robbed some clips ect as i hate as much as a boot trim clip missing lol the car is as good as parked up until the weather breaks again it will be washed dryed hooverd and short run weekly maybe even romove the alloys and i will finish it to the standard i want begining of summer end of feb/march it then amazing the time it can take to get things right......the release bearing is still noisy and will be changed at some point no big deal.. the paint still needs atention buffing/painting again in the summer my missus is biyng me a da kit for christmas :) havent masterd the rotary yet lol ...the exhaust isnt right still and will be tweaked sorted ect by a local guy who does stainless welding ect.. so at the minute it looking like this Image im warming to the 18s and nearly went for 17" pro race 1.2s rather than replace the tyres on the pegs but the woman leon will need tyres soon and they are the same size as the contis on the pegs so il buy 225 35 18 toyo proxes fit the contis on her car Image quick shot of the tail piece and should also see my carbon surround round the number plate you will notice the bumper greys arent great but have got some wurths stuff to sort them just need a dry day ect Image Image relaced the clips that hold rear electric widow switches in place these were always loose in the car due to only one side of the switch having a silver clip sourced ones in the scrappy and switches now not moving at all Image clips on either side now Image clips in question Image switch in place as it should be Image you will notice day light through my arch liner Image two sourced undamaged ect will be cleaned and fitted after smaller wall tyres are on and il redo the pop rivets on the mudflaps and was think scrivets where the bumper and liner attach so they are black ect Image wurths bumper dye in anthricite grey purchased and will be sorted on a dry day Image interior looking well and you will notice the speaker covers are missing as they where damaged/marked in places ive orderd another set havent arrived yet Image and how it sits with the all important trickle/soloar caharger hooked up to condition the battery keep it good Image Image also have the speedo working again ect by wiring to driver abs sensor......slight hicup think i crossed sensor wire to sensor and throwing abs light also going to change abs rings what to come not in order but needed exhaust sorted/boost actuator checked source walbro fuel pump/fit tyres changed to 225 35 18 toyo proxes paint sorted/painted and polished bumper greys redone brake calipers/discs sourced and fitted new wiper blades undersealed and wire brushed painted in places release bearing changed abs light sorted/new rings maybe a abs module repair front arch liners changed and finally it will be mapped! unsure the route im going with this lol

Post 749787 by RollingThunder on 2014-11-27 18:35:49

Looking great Martin, thats a fine 850 :) Have you thought about painting the trim rather than treating it with Wurths? I reckon it'd look smart, a bit S70ish yes, but still smart.

Post 749788 by martybelfastt5 on 2014-11-27 18:40:52

thanks pal wouldnt even consider colour coding it to be honest andys car is a good example of how it can look good but love the 850 how the trim breaks the colour and matches the wheels on a t5r

Post 749789 by RollingThunder on 2014-11-27 18:51:26

Yep, Andy's car is a peach. Got to love the classic appeal of the std car too though.
