TD04 Billet Wheel - Group buy?

Hopefully this will be ok with the mods, if not let me know.
I've been talking a company called Kawasaki Turbos:
https://www.facebook.com/kawasakiturbosystem?ref=ts&fref=ts
They manufacture billet turbo wheels, I saw them in person at the Autosport show and the quality does look to be very good.
Wheels are available for the 16T, 18T and 19T, the original wheel in these are a 6+6 blade design, the billet wheels are an 11 blade, and there is also a billet 6+6 available for the 19T, and there is also an 11 blade wheel with a 6 degree cutback for the 19T.
I do have some of the wheel dimensions available if people want them.
Price delivered would be around £65 each, this is dependant on a minimum total of 10 buyers, if there are more then it may be possible to drop the price a bit, the killer is the shipping cost.

Ill have a 16T wheel, any import duty fees on this or is it a Uk company?
Post 576681 by p fandango on 2013-02-21 21:53:38
you can put me down for a 19t 11blade NON-cutback please sir
as the specs are identicle to what ARD sell, i'm guessing they also sell the 19t conversation wheel people need to upgrade 15g/16t's (still need matching housing to go with it)
Post 576685 by sartain87 on 2013-02-21 22:02:58
Without going to facebook, what are the advantages on these for say an 18T turbo?
Post 576691 by theflyingbrick on 2013-02-21 22:06:32
ive got a billet wheel in my 19t i cant comment on the advantages over standard but i can tell you its very smooth and spools very quickly ;)
Post 576693 by EddyP on 2013-02-21 22:06:41
The wheels are lighter so can help with a faster spool up, I understand that the 11 blade wheel can also hold the boost a bit longer than the 6+6 design so the boost won't drop off as much at higher RPMs.
I've taken into account the import duty etc.. on the price already. I'm willing to deal with the company, import them etc.. then repost out to you all, or bring to a meet or something.

i need to type faster lol just to add that yes the 11 blade pulls alllllll the way to the rev limit!! you will run out of revs before you run out of power ;)

Just checked the ARD website, I suspect they source their wheels from the same supplier, the info on the ARD site certainly matches the spec on these ones.

if kawasaki turbo do the housing as well it might be an idea to see how much they want for the 19t, can see a few people on here being interested in all the bits for the conversion
to clear any confusion, i defo just want a 19t wheel. Just giving ideas that might increase sales which then increases the discount
Post 576712 by EddyP on 2013-02-21 22:23:27
I'll try and find out, I can also get an upgraded thrust bearing that's machined from billet, these would work out to around £50 each.

Post 576721 by Yosser on 2013-02-21 22:47:01
What sort of timescale are we looking at? - I'm just on the cusp of ordering an 18T billet wheel from ARD as I can get it brought over here quite soon without having to pay postage.
Post 576726 by EddyP on 2013-02-21 23:20:17
I hope to get them landed within a month, it is a little subjective to people committing as it changes the price quite considerably with quantity, i'll start a post on T5D5 too.
Post 576727 by sartain87 on 2013-02-21 23:20:59
if you can get an idea of cost i would be intrested
Post 576728 by BIG G on 2013-02-21 23:24:22
How much would the 19t wheel be all in delivered to door?
Post 576732 by EddyP on 2013-02-21 23:37:02
All the wheels will be around £65 delivered, the price may change before the order is made because it's quantity dependant so that I can pass the discounts onto you all, but it shouldn't change by more than £5-10
Post 576733 by EddyP on 2013-02-21 23:39:19
Can people who want a wheel add their name to this list please:
1. Timbo - 16T 11 blade
2. P Fandango - 19T 11 blade NO cutback

Just to clarify, as long as no profit is being made by yourself and those that order the wheels get them when they hand money over then we are relatively happy. (After all if that criteria is met you are effectively providing a public service :). Though if it is on that basis its best to set out some expectation guidelines. i.e. Delivery times once monies are handed over, expected quality of the item, returns policy etc etc)
If profit is to be made by yourself you would need to register for trade status before posting this thread.
Hope that helps :)

I'm out.
Thank you for your time & research, but (for reasons I've expanded on on t5d5) I'll buy from ARD.

Sure, I just didn't want to clog up this thread too much.
It's nothing bad in any way - I'm able to get a wheel brought to me from the USA free from postage or any other charges, so it'll only be £20 more (roughly) from ARD. Also, I have previously bought from ARD and he's helped me out with other things so I'm happy to support his business and I know I can fall back on him for any specific advice about the billet if I buy from him.
If I didn't have the previous dealings with ARD, and if I had to pay postage from the USA, then I would probably support the group buy.
FWIW ARD did tell me that he would discount prices for a group buy, but even so it might not compete with the prices here.
Hope that helps, and sorry for derailing the topic a little.
Post 577003 by sartain87 on 2013-02-22 17:25:49
Maybe it would be worth getting a price from both?
Especially if you have positive feedback, has anyone dealt with this other company yet?
Post 577036 by EddyP on 2013-02-22 18:25:42
I've met the guy from the Kawasaki turbo company in person, and looked at the quality of the wheels, I have no concerns, they're a pretty big company that supply a lot of OEMs.
I have spoken to them about the 19T housing, they can't provide that, so it won't be an option.
I could do it a fair bit cheaper, by taking risk, not having the shipping insured, marking it as a low value to try and avoid import duty etc..etc.. but i'm not willing to risk other peoples wheels like that, if it was just my own it would be a different matter.

No offends to Lucky (who I myself recommend 100%), but in this case he is a middle man buying from Kawasaki I can't see how he can beat there price
What's the plan if we don't get 10 people interested?
Post 577042 by sartain87 on 2013-02-22 18:43:00
I meant the fact yosser said above ARD will do a group buy aswell so if both are getting good feedback what's the harm?
I meant the fact yosser said above ARD will do a group buy aswell so if both are getting good feedback what's the harm?
Yeh, but ARD but them off Kawasaki so can't see how he can compete when we're already talking direct with them. Lucky's going to want/need to make a profit on top of the group buy price he'll pay Kawasaki
Post 577047 by sartain87 on 2013-02-22 19:04:03
Sorry I thought they were separate companies
Post 577052 by EddyP on 2013-02-22 19:11:39
If we don't get 10, then I'll rework out the prices and the interested parties can decide if they want to carry on or not.
I'm trying to find out if I can get a discount on a quantity too.

I was interested mate but i was talking to a few ppl and what i was thinking is not possible, i was thinking of coverting a smaller turbo but alot more is involved than what i thought and is just going to cost a bomb...so im just trying to find a complete 19t which would prob work out cheaper.

So having 1 of these on a 16t would it perform better than a stock 18t and what is the difference with a cut back and not cut back?
So having 1 of these on a 16t would it perform better than a stock 18t and what is the difference with a cut back and not cut back?
i've not seen any figures for the billet wheels, but tbh the 50cfm gap between 16 & 18 is a big one to jump. As for the cut-back (only available on the 19t), its said to stabilize the boost reducing the spike its said to have. It does so at the sacrifice of high-end performance tho
Post 579657 by EddyP on 2013-03-02 20:08:54
Afraid I don't have any figures to make any claims that it'll make your 16T better than a 18T, I would guess you'd see a faster spool up and maybe the ability to hold boost better at higher rpm.
I'm going to close this group buy tomorrow evening so I can get things moving, so everyone has 24 hours to decide if they want one or not :)

Hi Guys,
I'm just waiting for JT to reply to a PM confirming which type of 19T wheel he wanted before I can confirm details with the supplier. As soon as I have this I should be able to confirm everything within a day or two, the supplier is generally quite quick at emailing back each night, must be their day time in Malaysia.
