Hi guys,
I am new to the world of volvo as have only just purchased my first volvo, about six weeks ago now. And to say I am impressed with it is an understatement! Wow what cars, I test drove a BMW tourer and a Audi avant and in my opinion the V70 was comparable if not better in all areas.
I purchased a V70 2.4d lux manual 163bhp on a 58 plate with 66000 on the clock, the only thing I noticed was a slight lack of power so after much research on sites likes these I decided to have the car remapped. I am lucky enough to live near a volvo specialist that deals with rica, kings of witcham, so I spoke to them at length about the remap and decided to go for a remap that takes it up to 226bhp and what an improvement. The power was very smooth all the way through the range.
I did notice, and this is the question, that when depressing the clutch to change gear the revs would drop about 750-1000 and then pause, to about the right revs for the up change. If you leave the clutch depressed it will then drop down to the normal tick over???
I spoke to specialist and he said that he had not had this feedback before so could I take it in. He plugged it into there fault finding computer thingy, as you can tell I'm not very technically minded :-), and no faults came up?? He then removed the remap and put the next one up onto it to see if that made a difference, 240bhp, and oh my god did it make a difference, she flies! Unfortunately the rev conundrum did not change and remains the same, depress the clutch revs drop about 750 slight pause then drops as normal. The best way I can describe it is that it acts like an automatic, it drops to the appropriate revs for the next gear change.
They said not to worry too much about the revs as it all sounds and drives as normal and they can find no fault.
I was just wondering if anyone had had the same problem or even if this is the normal behaviour in these cars, any help would be greatly appreciated as it is beginning to play on my mind.
The service I received from kings of witcham has been exemplary by the way.

240hp is just short of the T5 output!
I wonder whether this drop in revs is fuel related, or even if it's normal for your engine? A Volvo specialist should have had an idea as to what the problem is if there was one but when I say fuel related, I'm on about the way the ECU distributes the fuel to the engine. This is why I think it could be normal but other more technically minded people on here may have a different thought.
Welcome to the forum by the way!
Regards
James

Howdy bud,
my 70R does something similer to yours, poop the clutch and the revs fall a little pause then drop off. i beleive it to be normal and an aid to smoother gear changes?
Hpoe that helps a bit. and 240 from your oil burner, sounds like a good place to be.

My v70R used to do that and when the air leaks got sorted and boost pipes changed it stopped.
But of course has another from the PCV haha

Hi guys, thanks for the info and the warm welcome onto the forum. Both much appreciated.
240 bhp rica remap was a bit stronger than I had intended I have to say, but it is a lovely place to be, makes me smile every time I drive her and still getting 39 mpg. Well occasionally lol
Any other odd behaviour I should be aware of? Before I make myself look silly again :-)

If you are having that much fun ,best start saving up for a clutch, you know what they say "power corrupts".

Lol, yeah putting a few bob aside each month towards new clutch. Keeps smiling so must be worth it?? Just not mentioned it all to the wife ;-)
Yes it has air con, could this present an issue?

Clutch is about £1100 done the cheap way, double that for a Volvo dealer :yikes:
