The other day I sent a message to Volvo UK asking them why there isn't a current 'R' model in the V70/S60 range of cars. Today I got a response and this is exactly what they said (copied and pasted from my e-mail)...... "Thank you for your email. A continuous programme of research and development ensures that our products constantly evolve to keep pace with our customers changing needs and demands. Regrettably there is currently not the demand to offer the V70 “R” AWD, and therefore this is why the model is no longer available, nor an equivalent at this time. I have, of course, recorded your feedback on our system, however, I am sure that you will appreciate that whilst individual requirements are influential, they cannot be guaranteed to evoke a change in design strategy. Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Best Regards, Rachel Rhodes Customer Champion Consultant Volvo Car UK Limited Volvo Car Group - Region 2" In other words what they are saying is that customers no longer want 'R' AWD models and the cost of designing and making one wouldn't be justified in todays market. So there we are folks, looks like the 'R' models will become classics! Regards James

That is the reason it was dropped in the first place, not enough sales.

no one wants big old thirsty tanks. everyone goes for the cheap lawn mower crap thats got the build quality of a lego toy and the power of an electric shaver. and cost £20 to tax............ great you might think.......until you want to go shopping or go on holiday with the kids and luggage.... it dont work.........

Perhaps the Polestar versions can turn the tide. I guess there isn't the customer momentum as there is for the german tuning houses such as AMG & M sport? I have high hopes that Volvo will create something that will keep the essense of R alive.

I feel there would be a small number of people that could or afford to buy the R cars. With the very high cost of the cars, road tax first reg charge, road tax, company car tax, mpg. With all the costs just look at the number of sales that would be,just look at the sales of the volvo S60 T6 AWD which is very close to the older R cars . http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=v70%20t6%20awd%20%28304%20ps%29&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CD8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.carbuyer.co.uk%2Freviews%2Fvolvo%2Fv70%2Festate%2F30-t6-4wd-304-ps-r_design-nav-gtronic_7526529%2Freview&ei=vkc-UauXL6KL7AaUpoGgDg&usg=AFQjCNHqk0CPT0TWbM1YA0KK3Khjoa-I5g The main thing they don't do is a manual gearbox

I can think of a few on here with the mechanical and design skills! :D

Volvo just love the autos a little bit to much, all to do with the euro 3,4,5,6 engine emissions or what ever number they are at now.

Anybody specced up a top of the range V70 recently? T6 (300+ Bhp) AWD with unimaginable extras, add to that the cost of a polestar remap and your looking at a 340bhp luxury monster for 57000 quid. Could that not be called an R?

Are you really suggesting that people would spend 57000 on a Volvo rather than a German equivalent?

Must say I do like the V60 T6 polestar but it's around 45k so might have a year or two before its at my price bracket.

Yes but that isnt 56K - more like 20K http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302045182378/sort/default/usedcars/model/v60/make/volvo/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/tf35ax/page/1/radius/1500/keywords/t6?logcode=p

If I had the kind of income that would allow me to blow 57k on a new car then it would be without a doubt, be the affore mentioned V70, in black.

Just looked how many sold I think it says people just don't like these cars. Looks like they sold just two cars in two years with this spec.
