Most of my adult life I've been a big bloke but it's starting to get to me now I'm getting older, finding it harder to do things being out of breath easily etc etc, being a lorry driver don't help and the fact I hate exercise lol, I lost 3 and a half stone two years ago but have since put on 2 and a half stone, I putting this on here as a way of giving me a push cos people will be watching lol, I know there are lots of us on here that could do with losing a few pounds. My aim is to lose 3 stone by the end of summer. I have just started on Sunday. I have no bloody will power so need all the help I can get.
Sunday 14th April........16st 2.4lbs
I'll post up everyweek. If anyone wants to join in the slimming club feel free pmsl

Good on you mate, been half trying myself, and as you say it doesn't help sitting down driving most of the day, so far I've lost about 9lb.
If you do manage to lose the 3 stone, the cakes are on me lol.

Big bloke? :hilarious
Seriously tho, before I met the missus I was working in a timber mill. A very physical job that involved carrying lumps of timber about and hanging off a 88cc chainsaw for hours at a time. I was just over 14 stone and could do 20 (proper) chinups in a row on my fingertips. I also did a bit of thai boxing and a lot of cycling.
Since getting married and changing job, I've put on 3 stone and can't run up the bloody stairs without getting out of breath :( I've gone from a 30 to 36" waist which isn't comfortable and if I'm honest, I don't like big mirrors any more lol.
So hell, why not! I'm in. I'll get myself weighed next time I'm near some industrial scales (think the local scrappy has a weigh bridge) and join the VPC branch of weight watchers :)

Tip for you, weigh yourself at the same time every day as your weight alters throughout the day.In the same clothes if possible, but more accurate if starkers.
You can lose 7lbs in the first week as most of it is lost fluid, so don't get disheartened if you think you aint losing anything in the second week.Reckon if you aim for around a pound a week loss then it should be relatively easy,as they say , slow and steady then you don't look ill and gaunt when folk who haven't seen you for a while meet up with you.

I'm in the same state mate. When I worked a physical job & was single I was 12st wet through, now I'm sat on my hoop for 12 hours & I've got a lot of love I'm 15st. Doesnt help me & my mrs are good cooks & appretiate fine food & beer & wine!!
I'm 6ft 3" so I carry it off not as bad but I'm trying to shift it for my wedding in September.
My poor little sprocker spaniel doesn't know what's hit her & I could murder a cream cake.
Good luck with your target.

I'm in for it, as long as there isn't a joining fee lol
Is there gonna be photo evidence of the weekly weigh in or is it a trust thing.
Also, you should get your other half to take photos of you in your underwear ( not like that u bunch of deviants) you can then judge the 3 month transition period and see the results. Remember, the camera doesn't lie, it shows what you look like, NOT what you think you look like!
Bring it on :-)
I was 14st 4 lbs on sat morning. That's bad for a dwarf!

I started two weeks ago. Weighed in the Thursday at 16st 12lb and 30% body fat (sheesh). Ive been using an app on Android (yeh theres an app for that) called Calorie Counter (by FatSecret) you can get it for iOS too. Great app and you can scan barcodes for nutritional info too. Certainly helping.
Anyway, week two (last Thursday) I was 16st 9lb and 27% body fat. Gym 4 times a week, Mondays, Weds, Thurs 30 mins cardio. Tues, Thurs Cardio for 15 and then weights. Fri, Sat, Sun, off.
As Im also using weights, Im going to go with body fat measurements as I will put on some muscle which weighs heavier so my weight may fluctuate

My weight tends to yo yo. If I go through a particularly busy period of time or end up ill I just shed weight. I then attempt to compensate and end up fatter than I'm generally comfortable being. (End up with back and knee pains). I try to keep my weight around 13st - 13st 7lbs. In the last 10-12 years I've dropped to just over 11st (felt and looked really ill) and probably as high as high 14's.

I lost about 2 lbs a day for 5 days on the Special K diet.
Bowl for breakfast (50g)
Bowl for dinner (50g)
And a smaller than usual but normal tea
Post 597207 by M-R-P on 2013-04-16 20:09:02
Right boys and gals, I just rolled off the weigh bridge at 17st 4lb. This is not something I'm at all proud of.
I've got a picture somewhere of when I was at my fittest (albeit with a fag in my hand) I'm gonna find it and put it somewhere In view as inspiration.

i pick & eat junk food, couple of bottles of Bulmers every other night doesn't help either. Plus i've got into the habit of having breakfast (hashbrowns & sausage) at work, as well as a dinner (cheeseburger or chocolate), which would also save me alot of money. Then tea when i get home, & a snack before bed

I never said the word big you did!
I lost 3 stone last year and was keeping it off until a couple of operations and medication. I'm not overweight by any means, just not happy at the weight I am!
To put it into womens terms, I want to be a small 12 rather than the large 12 I am now.

Smoker or not, I was fit mate.
All the bull the government feeds us is largely based on guesswork, like the alcohol rda.
Point is, I want to be like that again. That's my goal. If I manage to get off the fags too, even better.
Post 597233 by MIKESC70T5 on 2013-04-16 21:03:16
I'm 43 now and last October things were really getting me down, my job, family, life in general. My wife said I hadn't been my usual self for possibly a year or so but didn't know how to say anything to me about it. One of the things which didn't help was I hated looking at my self as I'd put on weight over the last couple of years, found it hard to sleep, bending over caused me to get breathless as my belly was pushing up on my ribs, couldn't swim a length of the swimming pool without stoping etc. Went to the doctors and got a real shock. I was diagnosed with stress, anxiety and severe depression. I'm on medication now, but the biggest thing that has helped me is the doctor referred to the local gym and I've been on an exercise plan for the last 5 months. The first two weeks were a nightmare, I really didn't enjoy it, but then, the third week I noticed a change to the shape of my body and my overall feeling for life and myself took a positive turn. I go to the gym three times a week now for about two hours at a time mainly on the way home from work. My waist size has gone from 36" to 32" and I'm happy looking at myself in the mirror now and I'm looking forward to our summer holiday in Turkey as with the weights I'm doing in the gym I'll have the toned shape I'd always dreamed off. All my friends have noticed a difference, I wear my work top inside my trousers now ( use to have it loose over my trousers ) and its a nice feeling knowing hopefully I live a bit longer. Also ran around the park the other day with my 10 year old son and our dog without getting out of breath.
Good for you Frankie and anyone else who try's this, I'm proof it's definitely a good idea :B_thumb:

You may have been fit but that doesn't mean the cigs were'nt bad for you.
The fact is that they have stuff in them that is bad for you and as much as i like the odd drink, alcohol is not good for your insides. You can use alcohol to disinfect things and run a car on it, so not the best stuff to be putting inside ourselfs.
Post 597283 by M-R-P on 2013-04-16 23:12:08
I was doing worse than that to myself at the time but that's not the point. I looked like this when I met the missus... (we were on the way back from the pub when this pic was taken and hanging upside down from a tree seemed like a good idea at the time ;))
And if I can look like that again, I'll be happy.

Been trying to get down below 16st again for a while with not much luck. Been over that for 14 years now. Went up to over 17st a few months back, cut the lucozade and reduced other rubbish food a.d saw a drop. Tempted to use the push iron to do the 2 mile trip to work

I can't remember you being that big Frankie.......have you put that weight on recently?
I weighed 16st about 5 years ago and now a respectable 12.75st.....was easy too, just stop going to Greggs for 11sies......and picking at stuff for the sake of it. Don't buy the stuff in the fridge that makes you fat, don't even by stupid 'diet' stuff....just stop bloody eating!! If you compared smoking to eating....what would you be on a day??
Oh yeah, and stay away from fatty mayo salad bars in supermarkets......they're probably the worst con in the world EVER!

In a nutshell
To keep your insulin under control avoid foods with a high glycemic index - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index
Excess sugars that are not utilised burnt up in the day will encourage the production of insulin leading to an increase in visceral adipose tissue (fat stored around the main organs). What you want to do is encourage the glucagon production.
Given our western up-bringing on bread & potatoes - this not easy to do.
Eating fat does not necessarily make you fat. By all means make & eat the burger - but leave the bun & the chips behind.
Have the curry but leave the nan & rice alone.
Avoid skipping meals - it is important to kick start the day with a good dose so that the metabolism picks up. Eat within 1 hour of getting up - porridge is good as the oats are quite fibrous low GI & take a while to break down. Without a good start you risk your body going into hibernation mode - & you will not quickly metabolise any sugars = no glucagon production.
Exercise for 20 mins a day - where in the heart rate is increased above 120bpm - but you don't need to max out to loose weight.
Avoid alcohol.
I am overweight because I do none of the above & I have gout to prove it.
Post 599303 by MA'R'K on 2013-04-22 13:35:55
good points Dave.......as I've said to a load of folk after loosing almost 4st, stuff your face for breakfast and you should be ok, gives you loads more energy in the day and saves you a few quid in munchies too!
I really don't eat as much bread as I used to and I don't eat many chips (perhaps once a week), but I do enjoy rice with my curry.....but leave the nan alone!
Yogurt with granola, honey and fruit is an awesome starter for breakfast, then have grilled bacon, eggs and mushrooms (no bread) for main breakfast ;) keeps you well energised for the day and does take the weight off.....I found that I only needed a bowl of soup or similar for lunch if that.

Dude I started without any but as long as you get around 120g of carbs you will be ok, plus carbs help the body work correctly a help when going for a trip to dumpton. Do it for a week but slowly bring some back in.
I couldn't believe it when I saw that 2 slices of wholemeal bread came to 228 calories and 36.4g carbs

I haven't noticed much myself but the scales suggest so. Dont forget the fat inside the body that tends to congregate around those organs that don't require it to be there lol

I found eating healthier isn't enough if you are well over weight. You have to do some exercise. The weight comes off a lot quicker but you also tone up which makes you look better, which in turn motivates you to carry on. When you start to feel better you automatically stop thinking about eating the junk food. This is just my opinion, but its worked for me. Take it steady and not just stop eating, the weight may drop off, but it won't stay off long term.

I agree. If you are looking at losing weight you do need to do some exercise to get the heart going. Exercise boosts your metabolic rate and also after cardio you get an 'after burner' effect which keeps the metabolism rate up and continues to burn more calories. You need to elevate your heart rate to 70%70%-85% of your maximum for at least 20 minutes. And it needs to be daily.
The only thing I would disagree with is the word 'tone'. I was taught that that word does not exist. You are either losing weight, building muscle or both. Tone means nothing.

I personally fell off the wagon in a big way. No training as big Pete was engrossed in engine swappage and cos I wasn't training ate crap all week. I'm an all or nowt guy, last week was all, this week was nowt. Knowing how my metabolism works(or not) I can go out for a meal one night and put nearly half a stone on in24 hrs...I jest you not.
Scores on the rather embarrassing doors

lol at that pic.
PS BMI is a lot of nonsense, don't pay any attention, everyones composition is different. Only train enough to tick over thesedays but at one point was training 3 or 4 nights a week at MMA (mix of circuit training, boxing, muay thai, wrestling, brazilian juijitsu etc) as well as running etc. and at 5ft 11 and 15 stone 0 I was still classed as obese by BMI if I remember rightly, must have been the fittest obese man on the books then. sitting at 16 stone 0 just now and tbh I'm hardly a fatty and still in shape.

Still not changed the batteries in the scales (D'oh!) but I'm deffo getting thinner. However, I could be doing more - a lot more. I'm back drinking beer (too lazy to pick a dry white wine that won't taste like battery acid) although I'm still eating a lot less than I was. I'm still running about when I lock up at work (big place) which must be helping.
Still don't feel any better for it tho :(

Weigh§§§§chers worked for me 10 years ago - I was the only man weighing in among 30 women. Since then I have used the myfitnesspal android app successfully. I feel podgy above 12.5 stone and feel spritely at anything below 11 stone 10 pounds. I was 14 stone at my heaviest and I'm 5'8.5" tall. In my experience exercise makes little difference to your weight if you don't reduce your calorie intake. My advice in general is to reduce your total calorie intake rather than eliminate certain foods - I lost 2 stone with a 2/3 carbs diet ie: 2000 calories is 2000 calories whether it's fat or protein. For me carbs are necessary to feel full. Drink 2 litres+ per day - tea and coffee count but alcohol doesn't. If your §§§§ is yellow you're not drinking enough. Regarding BMI - 15 years ago I would have said that grade 1 obese at 14 stone was taking the §§§§ but we are just used to chronically over-eating and being chronically dehydrated. I found cutting down meat intake helped a lot too - loads more beans/pulse etc. Fruit and veg are your friend too - it's hard to go over your calorie goal on broccoli. Carbs wise I found them to have least impact on my weight in this order - potatoes, pasta, rice, bread ie: spuds are good. Currently I'm going through a bad patch and am eating all the wrong food, not exercising and enjoying a few beers in the week. Motivation wise it is easyto give up after a few bad days but we are talking long term goals for weight loss so don't be too hard on yourself if a few kebabs sneak in - play the long game. Myfitnesspal is a great way of establishing a calorie goal based on your current weight, exercise and loss goal. It gives a weekly goal as well as daily so if you §§§§ up on Monday you can make it up on tuesady and Wednesday etc. Well done all who are making a lifestyle change - you'll feel younger and women will dig your cute buns.

I have just seen this thread at the top of the forum so I thought I would post in here.
I have lost a lot of weight in the last few months.
By a lot I mean over 9 stone, and with most of it lost since August last year. All done through switching to a healthy balanced diet (just cut out any crap, limiting myself to 1200 - 1500 calories a day religiously for the first 4 or 5 months) then started walking for an hour or so a day, every day. Once I'd lost the first few stone I then realised I was walking almost as fast as people were jogging, so I thought I would give that a try. Then the weight continued to drop off.
I have now lost over 9 stone, still losing a pound or more a week, and now fitter and lighter than I have ever been in my adult life.
Recently I entered a 5K race, I came 181st out of 230 people, probably not impressive to anyone, but this was one of the most random things I've ever done, purely for the experience, something to train for and to say I had done it! I am now doing another one on Tuesday. I have also entered a 10K race in September.
If anyone would like to see a before and after picture please see my webpage here:
http://www.t5rufe.webspace.virginmedia.com/simon10k2013.htm
The 'now' photo there isn't brilliant to be honest, but as it was taken by the photographer in the 5k race I used it. I had been standing in shorts & t-shirt for an hour before the race in possibly the worst weather I have experienced for years, then had ran almost 5k into what felt like a gale force wind!
Good luck to anyone trying to lose weight. I have tried and failed over the years. I still have another 2 stone or so to lose, but it does not feel like I am even trying anymore I am just in a great routine. As M-R-P said, eat less, do more, to be fair as hard as feels, that is the bottom line of it. It does get easier as it goes on. The longer you go without something the less you want it. I don't miss anything I have stopped eating any more.
(If anyone is considering starting running as an absolute beginner then a "Couch to 5K" app was life changing for me. I now run 5K at least 3 times a week as part of my routine, with some longer runs in there too. For example I did 10k along the seafront last night after work.)
Simon :)

WOW! Fair play mate, you must be feeling much better for it. Here we are moaning about losing 2 stone or 3 and you've binned 9!
An inspiration to us all.
Post 614080 by V70 Graham on 2013-06-06 10:38:47
Well done Simon, 9 Stone ! You must feel a whole lot better.
Good luck with the 10K.

Post 614089 by Rufe on 2013-06-06 11:06:34
Yes the car feels quicker I think, quite a few spare tyres lighter, lol
Cheers all. Most people are lucky that they dont have to lose that sort of weight I guess, and losing 2 or 3 stone for some people is probably harder than what I have done. I've always been big (6'6 tall, and always been large framed). I've gained weight gradually and sort of lived in self denial about it all for the last 10 years or so. I'm now 35 and lighter and fitter than when I was 21.
Lots of fairly small changes to my lifestyle have meant one massive change in me. Good luck to anyone trying to lose weight, its certainly not as easy as putting it on! :)

Awesome. As Martin says that's inspiring. I don't get any exercise of late and I used to run quite a lot just over 10 years ago. I Googled "from walking to running 10k" last week and have just not found the motivation to get out there until now. Well done.
Post 614145 by Rufe on 2013-06-06 16:39:03
Go for it mate, I might see you down the prom then too perhaps! To be fair we have a great running route close to us, miles of seafront path which is nice and flat. I love it down there.
Also its very nice weather for it at the moment too, well maybe a bit too hot... but certainly better than what I've been running in up until recently.
Setting yourself a target may be an idea, so you could even aim to take part in the Swansea Bay 10k in September mate.... go on, you know you want to really! You have 3 months and I was running 10k from nothing in close to that time so you will be fine mate. (I could have got up to 10k quicker if I'd had too, though I was happy staying at 5k each time building my stamina). A program like that will be perfect for you as it will gently get you back into it, which is by far the best way to do it. Good luck with getting back in to running, no matter what your aim is. :)

Post 622843 by jardon on 2013-07-05 11:01:23
Started running again for the first time in 10+ years - I have started again several times but usually just gone twice and given up. Simon has inspired me though and I've just got home from a 26 minute 5k along Swansea bay. Aiming for less than 25 minutes and then perhaps add some distance until I can run 10k. I used to run half marathons but that seems like a big ask at the moment!
Post 623640 by Rufe on 2013-07-08 12:09:18
Well done Jardon, great effort for your first time back out there. I am still doing a lot of running these days but not trying to do the fastest 5k each and every time like I had been for a good few months, so now finding it even more enjoyable and have less aching body parts. Yesterday morning I did 14km on the prom nice steady pace all the way (For the record it was 1 hour 31 mins, and that was still about 15 minutes faster than the pace that I was aiming for) It was quite hot to say the least but I started at about 8am to beat the hottest temperatures. I'm building up one long slow run each weekend, and currently two 7 or 8 km runs in the week each with ever growing uphill sections. Its all coming together nicely at the moment I have to say.
Why not consider the Llanelli Half Mararathon next year (think its March), something for you to aim for again! As you have said just keep gradually adding some distance to one of your runs each week, and there's no need to race the clock every single time as pace will just naturally get faster with a bit of time.
Post 623641 by M-R-P on 2013-07-08 12:12:42
Sounds like far too much effort for me nowerdays lol.
I've still not got my scales working so I've no idea how I'm doing BUT this morning I came to work in a pair of shorts that I've not fitted - in since 2008 (yes, I keep clothes in the hope I'll get back into them one day lol)
Post 623650 by Rufe on 2013-07-08 13:10:59
That's equally as much benefit as knowing your weight MRP, knowing you have got smaller by the clothes you can wear. Well done!
Post 625677 by Rufe on 2013-07-15 11:02:56
Weighed yesterday. 8lbs lost since the last time I weighed 2 weeks ago, so still on track.
I am 252 lbs now (18 stone exactly), still overweight but by far the lightest I have ever been as an adult. I am 6'6 so 18 stone isn't quite as bad on me as it sounds I guess, though I still have some weight left to shift. Fitness wise I am getting much stronger all the time. I did a fairly hilly 16km run (10 miles) yesterday in 28 degrees sunshine. This time last year I would have probably struggled to walk down the road to the shop in that heat.
Simon :)

Weighed yesterday after a stag weekend in Bournemouth which was simply a very heavy 3 day drinking session with virtually no sleep (and to be fair not a lot of eating)... and I have put on 5 lbs. I did expect to gain weight over the weekend as my weight does swing more drastically than seems possible as I can put on or lose 4 or 5 pounds in a week way too easily. Oh well, back to my regular eating plan now, and no drinking for a good while I think!
Post 631116 by Rufe on 2013-07-31 10:02:39
Weighed yesterday and lost 4 lbs, so I'm happy to report I am back on track again after that stag weekend.
I thought the gained weight should come off quickly as I am currently training quite hard for the Swansea Bay 10k in September. Also I have now been 99% coaxed into registering for the Cardiff Half Marathon which is exactly 2 weeks after it. I have been running almost half marathon distance once a week lately (on top of my other runs) so I am pretty sure I will be fine but something is holding me back from entering, though I think I will give in and enter it after I trial run the full 21.1km distance on Sunday, which will be the confidence boost I might need to get me to enter.
Anyone else still trying to lose weight? How is it going for you? :)
Post 631117 by M-R-P on 2013-07-31 10:08:46

I wouldn't say I'm trying but I'm deliberately avoiding foods that'll taste nice if you know what I mean lol.
The belly is slowly going and I'm having to punch new holes in my belts so there's something going on :)
Still not been on the scales yet tho lol

I know what you mean about punching holes in a belt.
The belt I am wearing here today I had to punch an extra hole the day I bought it... to make it one hole longer. When I started losing weight this belt was a massive confidence booster that I was losing weight as I progressed down through the 6 real holes. Then I had to make a hole the other side, and another, and I've currently made 7 extra holes to make it tighter. This was more important to me than weighing to be honest (Only recently I've been taking notice of actual weight).
Well done mate, making holes to make a belt tighter certainly shows you that you are going the right direction.
(And yes I could by a new belt - well I have bought tidier ones now too - but I really like this one for the reasons above, lol)

I saw in the paper the other day, a company advertising weight loss programs. They didn't look cheap but their sales pitch was simple... Your money back if it doesn't work.
There were 3 levels of program...
Beginner - 1 week program, guaranteed to lose 1 stone
Intense - 1 week program, guaranteed to lose 2 stone
Extreme - 1 day program, guaranteed to lose 2 stone
I thought I'd take it easy and go for the beginner. I phoned the number and paid the money. I was told to expect a delivery on monday morning.
All excited, I answered the door on monday morning to find a beautiful young lady, dressed in nothing but a tight shirt, shorts and trainers. She was holding a sign that read "If you can catch me, you can have me!" Well, after a week of chasing her around the neighborhood, I got my money's worth - I lost a stone.
Feeling pretty chuffed, I thought I'd have a go at the intense program. I called the number, paid the money and waited, eagerly for monday to arrive.
Sure enough, the doorbell rang and there in nothing but a bikini and track shoes was a stunning Scandinavian beauty holding a sign which read "If you can catch me, you can have me". "Brilliant" I thought as I chased her across the local park. Sure enough, I lost 2 stone that week, actually, a bit more 'cos I caught the wiley little minx on friday!
Any way, I was so pleased with the outcome so far, I took the plunge and phoned up, asking for the extreme package. "Are you sure? said the saleswoman, "it really IS extreme". "Damn sure" I said.
Well I was almost bursting with anticipation on monday morning, wondering what little hunny was going to appear at my door. The doorbell rang and, with a feeling of delight and a semi-on, I opened the door.
I wasn't expecting what I saw. A 6'6" heavily muscled man in a set of speedos and trainers holding a sign that read "If I catch you, you're MINE"
I lost 3 stone that day.

Just weighed and was surprised that I had lost 6 lbs since last week, didn't expect to lose that much this week really. Still doing quite a bit of running so that's obviously the reason.
I did run my trial 21.1km yesterday afternoon, (a half marathon) and then today went ahead & paid entry into the Cardiff Half Marathon in October, so that's my training motivation sorted for a bit longer.

A quick update to my earlier posts in this thread...
Well, Sunday just gone the day finally came and I took part in running the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k race. I was very happy with my finishing time of 55:23, for someone who has only been running a relatively short time this was very decent I think (even if I say so myself, lol). Finished well inside the top half as there were 2988 finishers and I was position 1372.
Thank you to everyone has donated to my fundraising. There is still time to make a donation for anyone else that would like to do so. Between the online and offline donations so far I have raised around £300 in total, so I am very thankful to everyone who has helped me raise this money.
If anyone would like to read my story or make a donation to my fundraising then please see my page here: http://www.t5rufe.webspace.virginmedia.com/simon10k2013.htm
My weight is still coming off me, albeit a bit slower now, though now I would still be happy to maintain around where I am really. Its more about general fitness for me now rather than weight itself. I'm still classed as overweight but happy in that I am fitter than I have ever been.
The Cardiff Half Marathon is a week Sunday (6th Oct) and I am finally feeling confident for that as I feel I have trained as best as possible for it. Was a bit worried at first but my training runs of the full distance (21.1k) have gone well.
Here is a photo of me from last Sunday...
All the best! :)

Cheers Graeme, I don't feel it either now to be honest, but only going on what the scales and charts say. I'm not actively trying to lose weight now just happy to maintain around where I am, keep fit and hopefully get fitter.
The Cardiff half marathon went really well & I finished in 2 hours 8 minutes so I was extremely happy with that.
The weight loss I've done has changed my life completely it has to be said. Mad how different one year can make.

ah the woes of weight loosing - so pleased to read about people loosing weight without the tears and tantrums of - I ate a tiny piece of chocolate today - like I normally find when people talk about weight loss.
Its a s**t long road and I've been at it for 1.5 years now and I've got so much longer to go. One thing I've come to realise is that people think you just have to diet to loose weight - so eat healthy and clean and then when they reach their goal weight stop eating well and excerising and don't understand why all the weight has gone back on.
For me its all about a complete lifestyle change, I try to eat really clean so vegetable (with a little fruit) shake in the morning, chicken salad for lunch and chicken or salmon with vegetables in the evening. No carbs after 6pm, I try not to eat a main meal after 8.30pm and I make everything from scratch so I know exactly whats in my food and what i'm putting into my body.
I ate a McDonalds the other day and I've never felt so crap the next day - it was worse than a wine hangover!
Good luck guys ( I shan't be posting my weight - well not until I've got nearer my goal!)
Post 725763 by M-R-P on 2014-07-24 09:23:17
Saw the doctor 6 weeks ago for a checkup. I weighed just under 18 stone - the most I've ever weighed. Did a bit of jogging, drank less beer, ate less grub... now just under 17 stone. Had a cold for the last 2 weeks so the jogging has temporarily stopped but still eating less and drinking less.
Only another 2 stone to go and I'll be happy lol.

I've dug this thread out to show my wife Rhian as she has just been awarded slimmer of the month at her local Slimming World meeting. I've entered the Great North Run (September) and she was wondering about signing up for something like a 5k or 10k too so as to have an exercise goal. In particular I wanted her to see what Simon has done over the last couple of years - I don't want to embarrass him but "wow!" again. I see him every now and then at FRF and last month he supplied me with an engine mount, a few filters and tips on ice for running injuries. I was 40 in February and decided I needed to be fit enough to run around after my kids so now I'm slightly obsessed with nutrition and running. Last night was my longest run in 13 years - 10 miles along Swansea sea front in 85 minutes - and it felt amazing. Aching today a bit but I've been building up slowly since May so mostly injury free so far. I've been trying to limit my calories but maintain a decent proportion of protein up to the last 2 weeks as in the past when I've lost weight through dieting my arms and chest just go skinny; I didn't realise this before but we catabolise our muscle mass as well as fat when losing weight. However this regime fell down last week when I tried to run 8 miles and found I had no energy at all after halfway and then felt faint at the end - so as the mileage is creeping up I've started getting more spuds/brown rice/wholemeal pasta/brown bread and porridge which helps a lot. Also been trying some recovery carb/protein shake stuff from SIS - not sure if it works but it makes me feel like I'm doing to it properly. I couldn't have done the recent inaugural Swansea half marathon but if I enjoy the GNR I might sign up for 2015. Weirdly we had a Chinese takeaway 2 weeks ago and neither of us enjoyed it like we used to - over the winter we were ordering Chinese/Indian/pizza several times a week and drinking a lot and it felt fine. We are all eating more healthily because of Rhians Slimming World plan - kids too - as there is practically no junk food in the house. Previously any crisps/Pringles/chocolate were fair game but I can't eat what isn't there.

Ooh... Update time!
I've not weighed-in since my last post but I can look down and see my belt now.
Jogging is getting easier and to top it off, I got into work this morning and one of the managers said "jeesus.. You've lost a bit of weight" normally, I'm in big, heavy overalls throughout the day but this was pre-workshop and I was in jeans and t - shirt.
The wife has started complimenting me too. I've still got a long way to go... About 20lbs but I'm getting there. I don't want to go all out at it, but a gentle change in lifestyle. That way, I'm not gonna end up putting it all back on.

Good luck T5frankie. I am as you would expect bigger than average. In the last year i have lost 5st8.5lbs not that I am counting much. Break through came when Doc said, your gonna die, maybe not today, but your gonna die sooner than you need to. Longs story short, loads of tests, a few dieticians and a few quid less in the wallet. My new way of life, I eat more often. I eat every hour. I'm not eating green salad stuff, but I snack regularly and before my three main meal I drink a pint of water, before I eat. My main meals are a third the size I used to have. I am full, I don't let myself get starving as I would then pig out at meals. My body just could not digest it, so it just stored as fat. The only thing I have stopped having is Beer, which has been replaced by Jack Daniels. More energy, happier wife and kids and a happier me as I sleep great now. When I wake, I get up, I don't feel as if I am being dragged from a sleepy grave. Like you I sit on my ass to work, for me behind a computer. Good luck with your weight loss journey.

What you need is 2 kids under 20 months.
Me & mrs biff haven't been this slim line in a long time. :)

I have done very well with SW. Lost 4 stone 8 lbs as of last week (43 weeks in total) since the start of this year. I was 18st 11 - and now weigh 14 st 3 as of last week. I reached my target in 42 weeks. Average loss was just over 1.5 lbs a week in that time. I may keep going unofficially for a while yet to further reduce my BMI. I have dropped 8 inches off my waist line and sit comfortably in 34 inch jeans and medium/large size tops/shirts.

in real terms that must be the same as removing the the equivalent of the gearbox from the rolling weight of the car, that will all help with acceleration, so must impact on the elapsed time

I have a similar problem. What should I do? I don't know where to start. I have been doing exercises for a month now, but that seem to not help anything. What should I start with?
