Found a new way to remove the engine/gearbox form "he who should not be named" S60R Image

Post 615347 by volvokid on 2013-06-10 21:02:37

Wtf happened to his car like?

Post 615350 by AndysR on 2013-06-10 21:07:26

That's sure is one extreme way to change the engine oil.... What the hell happened to the car that it needed to end like that....?

It was worth more in parts, He`s now driving the blue V70R AWD in the background.

Post 615364 by volvokid on 2013-06-10 21:34:59

im glad I don't have its worth more in parts attitude, I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of that lol. he bought it cheap as hell why not repair it?

I paid £495 for my car and with its current mods and time spent owes me around 4k. id never get anywhere near that by selling the car complete so it may one day end up like His.

all those toss cars we can see in the picture (Punto, Alfa, Tigra, Saxo), & the S60R gets scrapped

Post 615375 by stribo on 2013-06-10 21:49:45

The good thing about him breaking all these S60Rs it is it'll hopefully make ours worth more. Also we get the Ferrita exhaust off it for a good price. :D

This is maybe an out of order remark but I sometimes think some people who buy these cars cheap are punching above there weight in regards to actually affording the running of them and that's why a lot of them end this way .

I towed the car home on my dads trailer, unloaded it at his house and drove it 25 miles back to mine, before I got home I had a chassis service warning telling me I needed to spend out on 2 shocks lol. Im not one for scrapping cars like these but that's just my prerogative. If my engine did go wrong, I couldn't afford to just throw another one in, I would have to wait but I would keep the car. I have my car going in for its service this Friday lets pray its cheaper than its last service...... £1800
I'm with you on that, I get attached to my cars could never think of breaking mine.
I wish I couldn't care less about cars but its just my hobby, I really should probably think about getting rid of the V40 but its been a brilliant car and owes me nothing, this clutch has been the biggest failure cost since ive had it and that's since 2007. changing my car could be a big mistake, my boss changed his V40 in for a Vectra last year and his head has just went on that he also got rid of a perfectly good little skoda for his work and now he has a 208 and so far its had a seized brake calliper and a broken spring, and that's a fairly new car.

What i find amusing is this not supposed to be an enthusiast’s forum or is it a scrapers paradise? I also agree with Volvokid that a lot of people buy cars that they cant afford to repair .They then end up scrapping there vehicle only to buy another that requires a shed load of work doing to it but think nothing of spending the money. More people should be like M-R-P (Martin)IMO

I personally feel the same way about cars as Volvokid and in my honest opinion if the car was broken because the angle gear failed I think that's a poor excuse to break a car down to component parts.. Especially as its an S60R and not your usual run of the mill 2.0T... Just my 2p's worth. Mine is only an auto R saloon worth.. Well not a lot and after the rod went I did consider the options but if I'm being honest with myself even though I said it I could never have broken it down for parts and realistically the only way to resolve the issue was to have it fixed...

Post 615435 by Biff on 2013-06-10 23:19:47

My car probably should've been broken. Given the mileage, 10 owners & many things on the to do list... I'm pretty determined to get her up to a decent standard so she does me for a good few years. I'm in the bracket of cant afford to fix my awd system as the money concerned & the benefits just aren't worth it. Instead of spending the money on finding a prop & fixing my angle gear I'd much rather a forged engine & a 6speed focus st box..

No, Steve isn't in the pic, he's too lazy to get his hands dirty ;) It bugs me to see a car that good get totalled. yes there's money involved (and probably quite a lot) but I watched that car make 336bhp on the rollers with knackered angle gear, cheap petrol and 12k old oil. I just hope he saves me the center console ;)

Suppose this is just "each to their own". Its a shame when a car dies, especially a fairly rare one before the end of its useful life but it is his decision to make and he's had to make the decision that best fits his circumstances and preferences. Though with the amount of stuff that wont work on another car I'm not sure how its worth more in parts then fixed and flogged? (Like most of the control units.......obviously I'm not expecting an answer to the question but does make me wonder).

Post 615699 by M-R-P on 2013-06-11 22:31:01

Considering what the car cost to buy, and knowing how he's already sold a large number of the mechanicals for more than the purchase price, there's a fair profit in that R. Personally, I don't agree with stripping a perfectly good car for profit but hey, a large amount of my car came from at least 6 other cars and those I bought the parts from made a profit (of sorts) so it's not for me to moan. How many cars on the forum don't have parts on them that have come from a long - gone car?
