We (well Rachel) bought a Ferrita exhaust off of he who can not be named, and is definitely banned ;) a few weeks back, so with the nice weather, and the fact we're getting the R remapped next Saturday, I thought I ought to fit it.
The old one was looking a bit tired:
Strangely the rear box seems to have an outer skin, which has rusted, and started to fall away, but underneath is another skin which is solid.
Anyway, got the car up on some ramps, kindly given to me by Sharkey R:
It shows how far on things have moved in wheels and tyres, as the tyres were actually wider than the ramps.
After having to attack the bolts with an angle grinder to cut them off, the old exhaust was removed.
A side by side comparison:
Strangely the Ferrita has a 3 hole flange (he he, I said flange) , compared to the standard one's 2 bolt, but the top 2 holes on the Ferrita line up with the standard one:
So after a bit of swearing (mostly when the exhaust fell on my head), I got it bolted up and mounted up on the rubbers, and this is the finished article:
Took it out for a spin, and didn't notice any difference in performance (unsurprisingly) but after 20 or so miles, did start to hear a deep burble coming from the back of the car. As I found out with the Cougar when I fitted a Mongoose exhaust to it, you never really hear it when in the car, it's the people following that get the pleasure. ;)
Next job was to fit some spacers to the C70, to try and get it through its MOT, but I had 2 problems, firstly they were cheapy Halfords ones, not hubcentric, so the wheel didn't centre on the hub, and 2 the wheel bolts weren't long enough anyway, so I had to bite the bullet, and raise the front of the car 30mm:
TBH it doesn't look too bad, but I'll probably slam it again once I get the pass. ;)

job well done but those tips are terrible. much prefer the standard ones

I quite like the tips, apart from the fact they sit proud from the back of the car. Sharkey R had his cut off, and slash cut ones fitted, so that's an option. ;)

When I changed my one at tick over sounds a little deeper in tone, but when you go above 4k that's when you do hear the diffrance.

The 'problem' with the S60 is it's a very quiet car, which was great for the owners it was originally aimed at, but us oiks want to hear a bit more noise. ;)

TBF apart from the outer skin peeling off the rear silencer the rest of it was in pretty good nick, the front box had hardly any corrosion.
