Finally got a decent phone!

YAY! finally got myself a cracking phone Xperia SP After being stuck with a wildfire S for 18 months, that would ignore simple commands and just do whatever it wanted, it's nice to get hold of something a bit more powerful.
It's a lot bigger than I'm used to (bigger than an I-ponce) but fast as hell, 8mp camera, 1080p video, blutooth4, 4G, and loads of other crap I'm not likely to use lol. So, any typos I make from now on are down to the beer rather than a stupid-ass HTC :D
Anybody else got one?

Oh no Martin, I hate all the new xperias I used to have on, the screens on them feel weird to type on. I hope they have improved them.

Nope but the phone does feel rather drop-able.

Chav-boy next door has an S3 and when he got hold of my xperia, he said "f@*& me - that's fast"
I guess he's jealous now 'cos he rang O2 and asked when his next upgrade was due lol. He was on about getting an S4 but I think he's changed his mind.

Post 629162 by JUDGENINJA on 2013-07-26 06:49:08
Have fun playing for hours setting everything up and playing "android market roulette" guessing which apps will work and which will not.... I'll keep using my iPhone that just works...(yeah OK slightly annoying that it has a different Bluetooth protocol and doesn't connect to my ODB adaptor).
I see that android users are still comparing everything to the Apple stuff as if it hasn't quite broken free yet to run on it's own yet.
I have a HTC one and a Samsung Galaxy Note 4G 10.1 and both are not as easy to use, but maybe that is just me..
Post 629163 by JUDGENINJA on 2013-07-26 06:52:29
And as far as history my iPhone3 still works, my iPhone 4 worked until the new owner dropped it in his bath and my iPhone5 remains undamaged. My son had his HD Desire 2 weeks before he had smashed the screen, within months the volume control buttons had fallen out and he had broken the headphones.
Post 629168 by M-R-P on 2013-07-26 07:24:18
I see I've triggered quite a debate.
And with all the brainwashed apple users (sorry, I've had a play with most of the newer apple stuff and yes it's smooth but it's not that good) appearing from the depths of the forum, it'll soon be a mass-debate :)
But be careful, those I-phones don't like getting wet ;)
Post 629171 by JUDGENINJA on 2013-07-26 07:28:04
No phone likes getting wet... Zoe's Last HTC went in the bath too!!
Post 629173 by M-R-P on 2013-07-26 07:31:30
Didn't the I-phone 3 get a bad rep for failing due to sweaty pockets?
My new work phone is a Samsung Solid... water proof, shock proof, idiot proof... well, actually, no. It's the worst OS I've seen on a phone since Nokia first introduced symbian in 1999.
Post 629176 by JUDGENINJA on 2013-07-26 07:33:51
Dunno... I don't pay that much attention to the hype.
Post 629179 by tichai on 2013-07-26 07:37:52
I'll stick with my Samsung SII, it's rooted and running a custom ROM, so it is pretty much up-to-date with all the latest features and I can 'play around' with all the settings to get it just how I want it.
Bought Belinda an iphone for her birthday, I like the metal case but the rest....meh :) Asked her how to change the battery and insert an SD card...........oooerr, you can't!!!! Why would anyone want one? :D
Post 629184 by M-R-P on 2013-07-26 07:42:46
So... no card reader? and an internal battery (the xperia has that) and blutooth that only works on apple products. I can see the continuing appeal.
Have they put flashplayer on it yet?
Post 629188 by NORDIC R on 2013-07-26 07:47:05
Experia. Z is waterproof and shatterproof
The screen is unscrapeable
Has the best camera on the market 13 megapixel
The walkman feature is unreal
8 gig of memory
Its like a mini tablet
Check it on you tube if anyone contract is up for 'renewal
I would defo recommend one a these over an I phone.
Post 629190 by M-R-P on 2013-07-26 07:48:47
The walkman thing is indeed bloody good. I only have the 8mpxl camera but it's bloody good and the 1080p video is damn fine too.

Hdmi cable connects straight to the television
If you have Sony television it connects to it automatically when ya set it up

Well...
It's going back tomorrow!
Phone itself is brilliant but the WiFi signal is dire and I mean DIRE! I can stand in front of my super hub and not get half a signal.
After looking into it, this is an ongoing problem since the phone came out and Sony are doing NOTHING to rectify it"
Buyer Beware!!! Xperia SP and a few other models of Xperia have a known Wifi and Bluetooth issue that Sony refuse to admit to and subsequently won't address.
9 pages and not one useful answer from Sony! Linky

Looking into it, there's been a lot of Z models with the same problem as the SP. It's the metal chassis that's thought to be the cause but like I said, Sony are saying nothing. Tossers.

I'm gonna fiddle with some settings on my superhub thingy and see how I go (I've been googling lol) I've installed a WiFi booster app (tried a few but this one seems best) so tonight is it's last chance or it's going back and I'll get myself an S3 mini.
Post 631207 by M-R-P on 2013-07-31 18:10:37
Well I can now use my WiFi outside with a 12ms ping and 33mbps.
I'm sat 10' from my super hub and I'm only getting 30% signal even though there's no drop in internet performance!
I dunno, the phone's brilliant but I don't like seeing poor signals. Stupid thing lol.

I've had a had an Iphone 3gs, 4s and now a 5. I take it to work everyday, and it lives in my pocket. I run a welding and fabrication company, doing a lot of heavy duty work, structural steel, staircases, container repairs and conversions, plenty of burning, welding, cutting, grinding, lugging around heavy steel, etc... And I have never broken any of my Iphones. I've dropped all of them dozens of times, and never even cracked a screen. And I don't think a phone can get much more abuse than what I give it on a day to day basis.

Shame about the phone, I would move from Apple, but still so far nothing has come close for simplicity and.... For just working (welling of the time)..
I won't have another Samsung if they don't improve, maybe try a windows phone, but I need to have a windows 8 PC first to understand all the hype... HTC seem OK, both missus and Son have HTC ones and they seem happy..
... Oh yeah and MOD's can you please correct the thread title to "MRP, does not ....." We don't want trade descriptions to jump all over your ass!!

Very funny Wayne lol.
Well I'm still undecided about the phone, it's doing what I want it to now so I've no reason to complain but my opinion of it has been deflated somewhat. I've just been offered a swap for a 3 month old S3 which I almost went for but if it goes wrong, I'm screwed!

If you can be bothered with the drive-out, Swanage does one that's supposed to be superb.
Bournemouth and poole launch their fireworks from the same barge, run by the same company, both putting on about a 10 minute display. The one to look for is the last one of the season, they do a 15 minute show and it's usually something pretty big.
