Protect Alloys against Curbing - Alloy Gators

Just thought I'd share todays latest addition to the wife's car - Alloy Gators - although I can't see many of us fitting these to our cars as most of us can park without hitting the curb, with exception to Ian obviously ;) They come as a kit of five nylon bands which will fit alloys up to 21 inches, costing £60 or £110 if you have them fitted by a mobile installer: Image Unlike the cheaper, stick on versions, Alloy Gator are designed to sit partially under the bead of the tyre which secures it to the alloy wheel - virtually no chance whatsoever of these coming off the alloy whilst driving: Image Available in nine different colours: Image These are installed by jacking the vehicle up so the wheel is off the ground, deflate the tyre & then offer the Alloy Gator upto the outer rim of the wheel. Then with a rubber mallet, you hit the nylon band firmly under the bead of the tyre - once you've worked around the tyre, you trim off the band where they meet. The two ends slot into each other and are then secured by an additional clip: Image Obviously then re-inflate the tyre and lower to the ground - repeat on other three corners :) The Alloy Gator provides approx 8mm of tough nylon protection - not only protecting the alloy wheel but also protecting the side wall of the tyre: Image Each kit comes with a small key ring tool which trims up any scuffs that the Alloy Gator suffers after being heavily curbed. Quite impressed with the overall look of the Alloy Gator - even in PINK: Image Image Image The reason we chose pink is that later next week the car is being sign written with some of the artwork being pink colour !!

Did you fit them Steve? Could they be fitted before tyres are fitted?

They would look sweet.... Forgot to add, the Alloy Gators are apparently the ONLY ones to be tested & approved by MIRA: http://www.alloygator.co.uk/MIRA_report.pdf
Did you fit them Steve? The Ally Gators are designed to be easily removed if necessary and can even left in situ when changing tyres. They can obviously be fitted at any time, new or old tyres - the tyres only have to be deflated, not removed.
I was seriously thinking about having a silver set installing on the Nebs.....not sure though
Might protect the rims against potholes as well as kerbs.
Tried them....and liked them :) Image
Great stuff, I think Frankie will be buying these they'll match the paintwork well. (just kidding!!) ;) Interesting idea though but I'd have to have rusty brown colour to match the colour of my subframe. :hilarious

They look a good idea and to be fair the pink looks ok on that car, stands out. Not a colour I'd choose. If I refurb mine or get some new wheels I'll be getting some
