right its about time I got round to turning this into an one going project so here goes this is the day after buying the ginger beasty
then i gave her a well deserved clean and painted the calipers
then it was down to fixing a few little niggles first was the water leak which turned out to be the expansion tank had a crack so brand spanker off ebay for a tenner then was the abs issue so abs rings changed then to sort the engine problem maf gone so thanks to a member i got a replacement and that cured it for a while only to get the ETM light come on so off that came for a good clean and hey presto all was good
then cam the mods first was the cone filter cheap i know but better will follow then a good interior clean then came the front grill basically just removed and painted gloss black and removed the badge oh and changed the bulbs up front
next came the all important custom exhaust and lowering springs not low enough though im affraid
then came the oh so sexy Cades Berns 18"s oh and caliper colour changed to kawka green lowered by photoshop lol

The Ginge looks bob on with those rims, I was thinking of doing my calipers a bright colour & you've made my mind up, st orange it is. Lol Your spot on with the mods planned, be a tidy motor this.
this looks great! i have just picked up an identical car. loving it. i am looking at getting some newer wheels as it only has the 16" set. new water pump and cam belt going on tomorrow and a full service. i think the c70 is a fantastic looking car.
cheers guys and as for my boys car i'm modding a ford ka for him will do thread when ready
Cracking 1st car I think, I'm after one for my niece but won't be allowed to mod it. Lol
only doing looks as cant afford insurance for engine too small teaser on the ford ka lowered 70mm on schmidt clean faced 15"s flared arches centre exit zorst and stripped interior with roll cage and buckets
Sounds euro cool.

Great looking car Geoff. Don't forget I want your front bumper if you find a replacement.;)
That looks great Geoff. Really liking those wheels
Those wheels do look awesome.
this looks great! i have just picked up an identical car. loving it. i am looking at getting some newer wheels as it only has the 16" set. new water pump and cam belt going on tomorrow and a full service. i think the c70 is a fantastic looking car.
Haha, remember your first thread where I said I knew of a nice C70.... You now own it lol. Congratulations mate, that's a really nice example you have there and surprisingly quick too ;)
Yeah its a nice car. Got a few little bits to sort out but thats fine. I wanted a little project. I'm well happy with it. Just on the look out for some 17" or 18" wheels now. Prefer 17" as dont want ride to suffer to much.
Nice, I prefer that grill Geoff, M-R-P's done you proud.
looks nice mate. suits the car well.
well more items today strut brace new HID bulbs v70r bumper in ginger thanks to martin and james
bit of work to do but shouldnt be an issue cant wait to have the time to get started
that big dent in the last pic should come out with some heat mate. bit of paint required but should see you right ;)
Good progress mate, looking forward to seeing it in the flesh, and comparing cars. ;)
that big dent in the last pic should come out with some heat mate. bit of paint required but should see you right ;)
Yeah I'd agree with that, use a hot air gun and then push it back into place, you may need to hold it in place until it cools down again but it should retain its shape afterwards.
been looking at what you did with yours tomcat and actually looking forward to the job ahead
Yeah mine was in a slightly worse state than yours as mine was split in a couple of places too, should be a piece of cake to sort out.
will pos be messaging if i need pointers lol
No problem, gimme a shout if you need anything.
Nice one Geoff looks very good. I like the idea of building a car in secret for the little 'un, I'll try selling one that to our lass "er yeah it's for the bairn"....mine's 7 :D
haha its in secret from his mother too
more goodies today strut brace R bumper grills new HID bulbs
thats looking nice. i must pull my finger out and start doing mine. just finished a week of night shifts so maybe get going with it this weekend.
cheers fella and yes pull ones finger out and my badge for the rear has turned up courtesy of kerry now do i put it next to the C70 or in place of the C70 and also remove the volvo badge on the rear too
Next to the C70 badge.
looking forward to seeing that bumper on!
well the day has finally come to prep the R front bumper first i trial fitted the volvo R grills the tended to the dents on both sides with a little heat and elbow grease
then primer time a little bit more sanding last minute in morning and should be ready for my new toy to play with
Really coming together, you wouldn't know it was the same bumper.
Really coming together, you wouldn't know it was the same bumper.
i'm hoping that my painting skills are still up too scratch come the morning
i'm hoping that my painting skills are still up too scratch come the morning
I know people on here don't like the R bumper on the c70 but I do mate, reckon 1 of tc's splitters would look the tits on it too!
thats my eventual plan fella. just gotta get the funds and a tc splitter will be adorning the R bumper
thats my eventual plan fella. just gotta get the funds and a tc splitter will be adorning the R bumper
Me too mate. Get winter out the way & I'll get mine sorted. :)
Good to see this coming on, look forward to seeing the painted results..
Dam good job mate, amazing what you can get for a beer and packet of monster munch :)
Keep ur eyes on here tomorrow and if there's pics u know it's gone well if no pics I'm in a corner either crying or smashing things up
Looking good Geoff, hurry up and get it finished! :)
Shocked this morning at the paint supplies shop Half a litre of paint and thinners to go with £16.80 and mixed to match too
Bloody hell! I paid 20 quid for 400ml rattle can of 189.2 for my bumper :(
sounds like £10 was the cost of the metal can mate .............
sounds like £10 was the cost of the metal can mate .............
To be fair, the colour match is perfect and the coverage is superb. I managed two good coats on a P2 bumper with one can of the stuff. It also has the best spray pattern you'll ever see from a rattle can. I'll mop the bumper and polish it this weekend and post pics, you'll see what I mean ;)
hi tomcat what did you use to fix the split as i have one in my 850r front bumber to any help would be great thanks
right then moment of truth and paint went on as its my first ever time im happy so far paint clear coat
Hot snot!! that turned out great didn't it?... well done bud!.
bloody good effort for a big Welsh wookee ;) nice work mate, mow lets see it on the car!
cheers guys and will be on the car by the weekend just gotta work out the removal of the old one lol
angle grinder :)
Fair play dude, wanna do mine?! Lol Looking well, saffy paint looks much better than my spiderweb painted bumper! Wanna swop? Lol
haha cheers
Front bumper has three bolts per side located just below the headlights (behind the bumper obviously), also drill out the plastic rivets that secure the back edge of the bumper to the wheel arch liner.
so take that as headlights out job
Ummm...Lol.. can't remember.. Maybe.. Open the bonnet look under the headlights, if you cant see the bolts then it's a headlights out job..Sorry, slept since I did mine.
haha ok fella cheers :)
Fantastic job mate especially as it was your first time... Impressed!!!! :B_thumb:
oh yeah and the key fob for fun
nice bit of bling there mate. The girls will love them when you stick the fobs on top of the bar
very nice work Geoff, looks the dogs. :B_thumb:
angle grinder :)
He'd better not, his old bumper's finding it's way onto another C70.;)
so it didnt get smashed up then .........
haha no but i still gotta fit it yet
lol, all i heard on the phone yesterday was "hello, psssssttttttt crackle crackle , i am spraying it at the minute ....... "
right then the day came to get my arse in gear and fit this bumper so here goes firsty i removed the lights as i didnt want anything to foul whilst refitting new on ( its not necessary but i did) then the wiper if youve them now some are rivets but i was lucky to have torx in the wheel arches so gently remove then disconnect the fogs and temp sensor then underneath you will find 2 14mm bolts and bugger me sidways where they tight once they are out all you gotta do is gently tap the bumper towards you and hey presto its off
refitting was basically a reverse of the above and very easy so here she is without grills and here she is with the grills all i can say is that im happy and liking my R design C70 look
get your name changed to C70RGeoff lol. that looks superb mate. that your lad in the last two pics?
get your name changed to C70RGeoff lol. that looks superb mate. that your lad in the last two pics?
cheers dude and yeah that my boy
VERY. VERY. NICE!!! I know how hard it is to get a good spray finish. I have tried and failed miserably, lots of orange peel! Well done mate!
cheers dude and yeah that my boy
thought so. looks like his old man, just not such a good tan ;)

Means a lot chaps and thanks for the comments Getting my compressor in a week or 2 and have use of a garage so gonna start practicing doing parts here and there as I now have an idea for playing with the rear bumper now As for the black berns, I'm not a huge fan sorry dude And Martin he nothing like me honest
And stribo if you can wait a little longer for the bumper I'll give that a fresh lick of paint
And stribo if you can wait a little longer for the bumper I'll give that a fresh lick of paint
That would be great mate. :D
All looks very very nice mate keep up the great work:)
That turned out really well!.. Looks the nuts Geoff.
Spot on mate, will look even better a bit lower with a splitter like we said. Reckon crystal lights & silver wheels would suit it best. It looks well finished. Is that a colour concept golf in the background? Memories! Lol, my dad still has a loft full of black & yellow leather seats.
cheers tc and biff yep thats a concept gti that i eally dont knw what t do with going for projectors an tc splitter oh and the coilovers are on route
Really improves the car and you have certainly done a brilliant job I think its always that bit more special when you've done the work your self
cheers pete its not the best finish and will need to be redone properly soon but for now i'm well happy
What a awesome looking c70, i sooo love that R front bumper on the c70's
cheers tc and biff yep thats a concept gti that i eally dont knw what t do with going for projectors an tc splitter oh and the coilovers are on route
Mine had the front end chopped off it & is now towed by a t4 van. Stick it on eBay in bits mate, the clocks are very limited. No other golfs had black pillar trim as standard inside so they can go for good money. The seats are the comfiest ever in my opinion but would look well out of place in my Volvo even if they were trimmed. Lol I just can't sell them as they may come in handy one day. Lol Sounds like you have all the right bits & ideas. Look forward to seeing the finished deal.
Great looking car, bumper work looks spot on, well done.
cheers again guys having an issue with it this morning though cant help thinking the grill is now missing an R badge i'm not one for marking up a car with a badge for what its not but part of me is saying do it
right I blame Martin (MRP) for this but apart from my splitter of TC all other bits are going on hold to get my exhaust redone yes i know its only recently been built but it needs more burble and shouty shouty when the loud pedal is down dam u Martin dam u :uglyhamme
oh dear, what have I done!?!
you will see at the Ace Cafe matey
As everyone above has said... Great work mate and it looks the nuts now :)

Hot damn!!!...that looks freekin awsome!!.. What's the ride like?... I fancy a set of coilovers but I dont fancy a bone jarring ride.
Now that's what you call LOW !
Haha ta both To be fair TC the ride ain't that bad a little weird at first but she corners well now lol
damn that looks good!!!!
Cooool - pimp my Volvo! Get those arches rolled, 15mm spacers, wooden undertray to stop the sparks... Bangin'!
Wooden undertray Volvo f1 plank style lol The arches are good as is but the liners are dying a death at the hands of my tyres
That's effing low lol
Looking good Geoff, but you need new headlight wiper blades. ;)
Looking good Geoff, but you need new headlight wiper blades. ;)
They were fine before the new coilovers shook them to destruction lol

Cheers guys There is still plenty more to come Subtle but will be well noticed
nice stance, but photographing it on a hill is CHEATING !!!!!!!!! lol
very nice mate. A saffy C70 is a bit of a head turner anyway, with your wheels and now the new ride height looks a beauty. One of the best lookers on the forum now IMHO but yeah need to get under the bonnet now :D
Be honest I'm not a speed merchant but will set a time
Kidding? The only way I could keep up with your works van was by parking on the back of it ;)
My truck is a bit quick ain't it lol Few more today and she looks sorted Not much noise on lock at all now Honestly
Looking good, must get my wheels sorted.
Alright, this looks pretty good right now, 90% sure I want to keep mine and have been thinking about either getting these cheap coilies or an exhaust. My car's already lowered a touch but it needs more lows. I need to think even more now, thanks! :P
Do it I haven't regretted a penny spent on Ginge
What is the ride like compared to before? Having had a Golf before on really cheap coilovers I do have experience with having a dire ride! The ride on mine is ok over normal stuff but it does crash through pot holes so it can't get much worse lol
Get your exhaust sorted Davey and hear them mystic 5pot tunes. Forget your cd player lol
Very surprised the ride is much better than I expected
sorted suspension and happy with ride height and cleaned her
Nice, I'm liking that R spoiler, now get the headlight wipers sorted lol, and plans for the headlights themselves ?
Looking great ;) Get some spacers on the rear to really finish the 'stance' off. They're a bit too far set in on these cars...
Thinking of spacers Dave but not 100% sure yet and graham I have a set of projectors being sourced by our resident scrapyard womble When they on they will be stripped down and the black painted to match the car Yep you got it ginger gay gold projector headlights
The feelers are out and if it's in the area, the posh projectors will be yours my big welsh chum ;) Car looks bloody epic so far, lights and the next few mods ;) are really gonna make it something special.
Cheers dude it's getting there
Thinking of spacers Dave but not 100% sure yet and graham I have a set of projectors being sourced by our resident scrapyard womble
While he's there, get him to get my new C70 Chrystal headlights and indicators as well....:-)
Bit more done today Top engine mount bush changed. (Thanks Biff) Also found my annoying clunk from back so new shock top mount ordered and some exhaust rubbers

Was good to get them together mate.
now i'm back there will be more pics coming soon once car mot ed and then the new rear bumper idea:funkybana
Well hurry up, I want to see this rear bumper. :P
Haha she moted and the rx8 rear bumper is on order to soon be cannibalised. Time for a wash just cause she ain't had one in weeks
RX8 bumper, this I have to see, glad you got through the MOT O.K. was the front wheel rubbing picked up?
Lol yeah rubbing picked up but let go and abs went as advisory hehe Just take the black under its of the rx8 bumper and photoshop play away dude
Looking good!
Thinking of doing the blue R dials now Need ideas and inspiration Need to start thinking outside the box
Thinking of doing the blue R dials now Need ideas and inspiration Need to start thinking outside the box
You mean like the ones fitted in my car. ;) You were lucky to get away with the rubbing, or I was unlucky, as mine failed on it.
Exactly like yours bud From what my guy said if it rubs a little it's a pass as the tester should be aware of said design flaw in car as they all get updates for such things Just need some cheap dials to rip apart now oh and some tint lol
I was told it was O.K. for P2s to rub as there's a bulletin (can't think of the right name) for them, but P1s shouldn't rub at all. I'll have spacers fitted before this years M.O.T. ;)
Maybe my guy looked the other way then lol
I've had an advisory for rubbing on the P2 on every MOT I have. This year, the advisory said "Tyres close to contacting inner arches". As always, it's down to the perception of the regulations by the tester. I had an advisory about a slightly scattered beam pattern from the HIDs too :D "Service Bulletin" Steve ;)
No I was trying to think of VSI (Vehicle Specific Information ), it came to me just now.
not happy alarm just started going off so my mods are on hold as some ££££ has just hit my car parking his
Bummer mate, hope you got his details (or his kneecaps, whichever is better)
Hope there's not much damage mate.
He getting bill for damage Rear near side corner bumper scratched paint and gouged out the plastic
I bet he was very compliant when he saw the 6'9" angry wookee heading his way lol.
He getting bill for damage Rear near side corner bumper scratched paint and gouged out the plastic
Lucky you're fitting a new bumper. ;)
Shame but good you caught him, hope it's easily repaired.
cheers guys and easy repair but the cost on him is now gonna cover my new bumper build and paint so bonus
Right my list of things to do Rear bumpers joined and painted N/S front suspension top hat sourced and replaced New blue injectors as missus threw others out by mistake Brighter hid unit set Much much better than I have 19t Remap Blue led blues for dash illumination Front 02 sensor Fuel filter Rear n/s top suspension top mount Set of R blue face clocks Don't think that's much lol Oh and the boss is getting the boys in the body shop to mop my car for free
Well, chop chop then.;)
Bumpers are being blended as we speak but it ain't easy this plastic welding bi z
Shelved the R clocks idea as I'm quite happy with my budget version
Cheat :P
Shelved the R clocks idea as I'm quite happy with my budget version
That was the in thing on here a few years ago, ive never been a fan of the light produced myself but the pictures may not do it justice
I don't think it looks bad, nice even spread of light.
Looks pretty cool mate. One suggestion tho - get some 240gr sandpaper and rough the bulbs up a bit. it gives a more uniform spread of light and gets rid of the bright spots.
The crappy iphone camera doesn't do it any justice at all and the light spread is fantastic from the LEDs All in all cheating feels good today
Time well spent :)
Looking good Geoff.....you'll get the cleaning bug now lol
that looks great!
Looking good Geoff.....you'll get the cleaning bug now lol
Ummm you could be right as I polished it again Monday hehe Boss is getting the boys on it Friday with the mop and some cutting agent and then full works with some wax
Don't do it Geoff, you'll end up like the rest of the OCD freaks that spend more time washing and polishing their cars than they do driving them.
Only getting it to a point where it takes less time to do when that comes around Done right the first time there is less to do the next and next
Only getting it to a point where it takes less time to do when that comes around Done right the first time there is less to do the next and next
Doesn't work for mine, working on building sites, mine gets covered in all sorts of crap, and needs a good going over when it is washed, but it spends a lot of its time dirty.
See it's too nice a colour to be dirty
See it's too nice a colour to be dirty
But I'm not going to wash it every night, so it has to be. :P
right this is starting to pee me off turbo went in the week so now i have replaced today so while the car was up on the ramps i thought i'd have a nosey around to see why my front coilovers where making such a racket only to find the the tophats on both side have no got elongated holes and also the bush on top under the nut on both sides has no life left in them......bugger just sent a lovely email to the manufacturer to complain and see where that gets me otherwise i gots to buy full kit again just for the fronts....booooo hiiiisssssssss or may purchase these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK1-PillowBall-Camber-Kit-Plates-850-C70-S70-S80-V70-4-Coilover-Kits-Strut-Mount-/141281069904?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e5020b50 aside from that 02 sensor is on its was as is fuel filter and my rear bumper is almost complete just waiting for the rear mudflaps so they can be fitted and blended in
question i do have that one of you may be able to help with is the dash lights as i have change the colour of the dial illumination to blue can i also change the rest as in the lcd in the middle im sure the bulbs in the centre console are easy enough to change as well just want to make it all regimented
Can't see why not mate, though the switches could be fun, as you'll have to take them apart to get to the LEDs.
question i do have that one of you may be able to help with is the dash lights as i have change the colour of the dial illumination to blue can i also change the rest as in the lcd in the middle im sure the bulbs in the centre console are easy enough to change as well just want to make it all regimented
There's a film that's fitted inside the panel to colour the standard bulbs green, just change that film to blue :)
Might not be much but a little blue badge fell onto my car
Had to look closely to see if it was a Pornstar logo :D

Starting to loose the plot now Soon as all fixed and running lovely with no abs or eml light on the bloody oil light keeps randomly coming on and off Checked levels all fine and no leaks Wtf man
Might just be the oil pressure switch mate.
wouldnt i get eml come on?
right another problem solved to save me hopefully from more of this and get back to more of getting the C70R look oh and driving her plus more goodies turned up for paint and fitting
What have you done to it now? Didn't your car come with front mud flaps?
oil pressure switch went on it so wasn't gonna drive to work bonus of own truck parked at home mine has front but guy selling wouldnt just sell back ones so now have set of fronts spare to sell
I've never seen rear mud guards on a C70, didn't know they were available tbh :)

what turbo is that that your fitting? have you had or are you getting a remap?
remap will be soon young sir
starting to loose the plot again oil pressure switch changed and oil light keeps flashing on and off oil level spot on no leaks so what the actual f@$£
Sounds like might be pump. Have you got correct grade oil. Too thin may cause light to flicker a bit with slightly worn pump. I hope it's something silly. Checked the wiring from switch? Not rubbed through anywhere has it.
The other suggestion given to me by Oblark when I had the same problem on the cabbie was the pressure relief valve sticking.
starting to loose the plot again oil pressure switch changed and oil light keeps flashing on and off oil level spot on no leaks so what the actual f@$£
The "O" rings in the sump can cause this problem, pull the dip stick with engine running if it's covered with tiny bubbles it worth looking at,does this happen when the oil is only hot or when it's cool ?.
gonna do full flush and refill tomorrow and check all above suggestions in process cheers guys
The other suggestion given to me by Oblark when I had the same problem on the cabbie was the pressure relief valve sticking.
pressure relief valve?
pressure relief valve?
It's basically a sprung loaded ball bearing on the outlet of the oil pump, they can stick, and stop oil flow.
checked wiring all fine could be that im running fully synth 5w30 but thats what the interweb said to use and my main stealer
I run 5W30 in my C70 with no problems mate.
cheers bud
almost done both dude. Was gonna paint yesterday but gone down with this bad flu bug going around plus I got new turbo to go on only few things left tomcat splitter different front lights R clocks blue injectors remap
We'll have to get them together on the strip once your's is finished. :D
Don't need the strip dude not my thing I like the speed but know full well it ain't gonna be the fastest I going for the finished look
well so much for the look for now its fixing whatever problem pops up like this weeks oil cooler death so off with the oil one and on with one from a D5 just for good measure, big bugger too
I thought of getting a bigger one for mine - but TBH you don't need it. I have my oil temps measured and even at full chat with the GTX conversion - the temps were still in range.
Believe it or not was the cheaper option
On reflection the risk is minimal of the oil being too cold - as this is a water based cooler - it can never get colder than the coolant - so if it was cheaper then fair play.
for a change, after a nice late blast back from work tonight all seems to be running fine for now yay now to send some cash to dave for rear light for a project
Just let a fleet of Turks loose on my car Pics to follow
I wonder if there are car washes like that round my way...!
tenner wash and they did inside too they offer full deluxe valet for 35 notes
Lazy git.
if the service is there for that amount i'm all over it like a tramp on chips
Nice wheels there, and the R bumper looks cool! Can't use a pressure washer on my driver's door - it leaks around the mirror and top of window! Whistle drives me crazy over 50mph. I'll try and sort it when the weather's better...
Try a bit of vasoline on the rubber around the door jam should breath a little life into it
well between jobs today i started on these they where silver
Nice wheels there, and the R bumper looks cool! Can't use a pressure washer on my driver's door - it leaks around the mirror and top of window! Whistle drives me crazy over 50mph. Yeah this is it, it gets a good rep. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EINSZETT-GUMMI-PFLEGE-STIFT-RUBBER-CARE-STICK-/390397740572
Thanks - I think the gap is a bit bigger than that, but I'll certainly check it out. Shortly before I got the car, someone fitted a second-hand window regulator in the door and I suspect it all needs some tweaking. Wouldn't Vaseline destroy rubber, being petroleum-based?
Not sure Was old breakdown trick I was taught for when rubbers seals dry up and leak on sunroofs
I use silicone trim gel - doesn't mark your windows.
Nice paint match!
cheers dude and all from a rattle can
3 x 1.5 metres of orange carbon fibre sticky turned up today Hmmmmmmmm what too do with it
Love the Umbrella badge, Geoff! Where did you get that from?
tis on ebay my friend just ordered the wheel centre caps to match
The car's looking good mate, still waiting foir the rear bumper pics though. ;)

Bad times mate, hope you get it sorted easily.

Crikey. Sounds like I need to get me a Welsh woman then. I might have to pretend I'm Welsh myself so I could do with a few pointers from you fine Celtic types. :B_thumb:
