Hi everyone new to the site.
Im looking for advice on turbo volvos.
I have a ford capri and i want to put a good engine in her next year, i want about 200-250 hp but dont want to have to rebuild it every 10k so i thought volvo would be one of the strongest
Im need to know what models would be the most straight forward for the conversion? I want to use the engine and box so has to be rwd
Not got a budget but want to keep it cheap

You'll be wanting a 940 turbo engine and box then

or a t5 engine and a M90 box from a 940. less engine tuning needed to make the 250

300 bhp is easy to get on a redblock it's when you want more it starts to cost . For sound t5 engine but the whiteblock m90 box are very hard to get hold of .or for aggression and ease redblock with m90 box .

the whiteblock comes with 225+ bhp from the start ;)
all the spare money (t5 engines can be had for peanuts these days) can go into making a gearbox fit? without throwing money at the engine.

The only reason the redblock didnot come with higher power was due to the market they were selling it too .in Sweden and the USA they know different lol.

Can't deny it's a tougher engine mate.

Very true in Sweden they have run 502whp on a stock engine just with a lairy cam ,big turbo and standalone lol.sorted and it's ran like that for 2yrs a atleast and reliable and he races the tits off it and it's also a daily driver .do that with a whiteblock lol.dont get me wrong though I do like the whiteblock engine because they flow very well.

Whiteblock is the 5 cylinder engine fitted transversely to 850s onwards. Redblock are 4 cylinder(possibly 6 cylinder as well) fitted longitudinally to 700 and 900 series cars. No whiteblock engined cae came with the M90, because of the transverse installation, 700 and 900 series cars had M90 gearboxes.

Your info is not totally correct mate .the whiteblock comes in 4/5/6 cylinder straight engines .and the 2.5 960/v/s90 came with a m90 manual gearbox as some of the 3.0 did too but are rare .this engine is a whiteblock too.the redblock is an 8v 2.3 witch is similar to the pinto in design but can pack a real punch in turbo form .we never got the 16v version but the euros did and they have an endless amount of power out put .

All I have to say is Capri with T5 power......Mmmmmmmmmm
That's one of the projects I never got around to doing because the price of Capri's is getting silly.

Ohhh glad i asked because i would never have worked all this out lol.
So if i find a 940... what power they come with? What do the 2nd and 3rd numbers mean in the model numbers?

Ive got a 940. Picking it up saturday.
Its a taxed n tested car with service history. 1997 lpt estate so should have had an easy life.
Ordered a boost control valve and gauge.
I was told just wind the boost up to 12psi and that will give me 200bhp ish... how true is this?
