My oil level on dash has always been accurate Till I had a service today Now it says its only half full, Volvo say that's normal ? Well it's been reading correct for 3 years.! Volvo say if gauge says its only half full after a oil change I should take that as Being the full level.! Why should I.? The gauge now Lies.! Had an argument got nowhere (it's not there Prob) blah blah. Told them it was fine till they changed the oil And it's Not fine with me.! Driven Volvos for years always the D5 Never had probs ever.! Now stupid electronics mess up the usual Volvo reliability Any one else had a prob with the digital oil level lying ..? Help / Advise Cheers Guys.. Going off Volvos :(

Going off Volvos :(
Or look at it a different way how much oil did they charge you for ?,what does the hand book say it needs. Could be a software update as well. Also the newer diesels should only be filled to 3/4 on the dipstick,if you fill to the max it will log a fault. All to do with the DPF filter.

Is there dipstick you could use to confirm it?
Hi Service dipstick says full
Is there a sticker near the oil filler cap that's says only fill to 3/4 max.

No No sticker

Post 660456 by Harvey on 2013-11-13 22:13:09

Well if it's full on the stick ,it could be the sensor is a bit dirty in the sump. Just keep a eye on the level. this is the sticker that's gets fitted on the diesels with the DPF Image

No I've no sticker.. Now today Engine is very loud.! And smell from exhaust ! Arrrrrggggg !

Post 660815 by Harvey on 2013-11-15 16:23:13

It could be doing a burn to clean its self's that can take 20-30 mins at 2000 rpm just go for a drive ,have a read of your hand book. If its half way through and you turn off the engine this can cause a light to come on if that's the case you must go for a drive until the light goes out,or it's a trip to the dealer to get it reset, and they charge for it...

correct harvey that is definately doing a regeneration . best way to stop that clogging up in the first place is to not drive like miss daisy - more idling = more regenerations. taxi's are the worst for problems by far

i think after they do reduce the oil level for the reason harvey said and fit the sticker they did a download so the level in the car was at 2/3 full on the dashes. its strange, have u asked about a calibration being done if it is possible?

Post 660860 by superiorjet on 2013-11-15 18:46:59

They said don't put stickers on now, No re calibration, And half way on the digi dipstick is to mean its full now.. Did a software update Today it's started making a strange moaning noise from engine ! And banging like 2x diesels Think I'm gonna fill oil to full, As for 4 years its been there No prob at all.. Why should I change it..? Putting it up for sale me thinks, stunning cars S80 Exec Mmmmmm Gone off Volvo had loads never a prob Buy the 40k one and headache Wonder what it's worth 09 only 50k Full Volvo history.. And got 2 yrs extende warranty left Cheers Steve
