We should be fine up in the 'Big Smoke' can't see us getting 6" of snow at any point.
Post 663240 by stribo on 2013-11-24 08:05:24
I don't believe a word of it, apparently we were going to have high winds a few weeks back, nothing significant happened. It's all scaremongering.

I believe there will be winter style disruption......as for when I havent a clue......the way the weathers been I wouldnt be suprised if we had snow in June
Post 663249 by T5frankie on 2013-11-24 09:28:07
they cant even tell the weather 7 days in advance so how do they know it will be a bad winter?
Post 663250 by M-R-P on 2013-11-24 09:28:52
we all own cars that are designed to start and run in minus 42.
which is why, in the event of heavy snow, I'll be taking the starlet :)

i have 4wd this year, although i said my missus can use it in the bad weather, so my winter hack will be a 1.4hdi peugeot lol
Post 663264 by V70 Graham on 2013-11-24 10:26:21
I'll be on the go-ped most of the time I would say, I only drag the car out if it's frosty on the main roads.
Post 663274 by JamesT5 on 2013-11-24 10:59:22
I don't think they can make that assessment so early, I wouldn't believe a long range forecast and take it with a pinch of salt.
One thing I do need to get fitted to the car in December are the Winter Tyres, I'm getting some online and will find a garage to fit them for me. I've spotted some West Lake/ Goodride (same brand!) for around £50 - £55 per tyre and the reviews aren't bad either.

The worst for scaremongering are the Tabloids. The Daily Express, The Daily Mirror, The Sun are some of the worst for this, particularly the first one of the 3. It really annoys me that they print doom sensationalist and unsubstantiated comments in their news paper with very little hard evidence.

Absolutely this.
Slow news week so lots of Daily Wail style scaremongering.
Spent some time in Northern Finland late last year and that was an eye-opener.
(-20 to -30 most days)
Those guys certainly ain`t scared of a bit of snow.

I can remember years ago the council in north Wales their 4x4 land rovers had electric heaters fitted to the fuel tanks and were plugged in over night.
The fuel suppliers do have a winter spec diesel that works better than the summer stuff but don't know the numbers.

The forecast in to the middle part of January is for largely wet and relatively mild weather which is typical now I've actually prepared for the snow and put winters on for the first time ever.
Mind you, the winters I have one now have been phenomenal in the wet, the wheels just seem to hug the tarmac and I can't knock them, especially at £233 for a set of 4!

Same here btw. First AWD ever owned and it'll be like Barbados I betcha! lol

He also had a carriage return lever installed on the side of his iPhone for that..
As far as weather predicting it is all statistics and balance of probability. It can't be 100% accurate and many factors govern if it falls as rain snow or hail. British weather is usually cold/wet so there is my prediction for the next 50yrs

Weather down here in Kent is bloody awful. Everywhere is severely flooded and I've pulled loadsa ppl out of flood water already. (Idiots)
Maidstone town center is closed off and you cannot drive through on the spine road as its impassable. For those that may know, Fremlin walk car park is 3 feet under!! Edenbridge is also Under water as is Yalding, east peckham and the surrounding areas inc The hop farm...which is closed! You cant even drive into it to park cos its all under water.
Post 674386 by JUDGENINJA on 2013-12-27 09:08:14
We were without Electric Christmas Eve to 15:00 Christmas Day. Many roads round here are flooded. I think a petrol station has lost all of its product to water contamination. I have one tree down and my back fence is destroyed.
We've had a couple more power outages, but atleast ours is on. A few estates round by us I believe are still without power.

Can I just point out the Daily Express is always posting sensationalist stories about the weather or health scares on the front page. It has no evidence to back them up and I get really fed up with seeing their headlines every time I catch sight of their front page.
I'm going to write to the Editor and give him/her my 5 pence worth and say exactly what I think of their paper and all the tosh on the front page.
