The financial times?? I can't understand all of the words in that http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2247833/Is-end-road-tax-disc-Scrapping-paper-version-cut-costs-streamline-services-motorists-say-ministers.html I stopped showing the disc in my 460. Its all on computer anyway, and wasn't parked on the road at night. The S70 only has one stuck on the screen cos the guy I bought it off put it there

I think the local jippos have already cottoned-on to this early as they haven't been displaying tax disks for about 10 years or so.

It's about time. Shame any savings won't be directly reflected in the price.
About time too! A monthly direct debit option is something I've been on about for a VERY long time, nice to see they're finally listening to people. I did think why on earth we have tax discs when the Police can tell straight away with the ANPR!

That is why you still get tax disc even if you don't pay tax I.e. low emissions cars.

Doesn't have to pay for it but has to display if he uses it on the road
I gather it comes into effect October 2014

i believe it is still a £40 fine for failure to display even though you have a valid disc. we used to get the odd one on our courtest cars if the tax was due whilst with customers over month end.........

[/QUOTE] True although the Issue has never been raised at roadside checks while out on my motorbikes. It would be different in a car though I guess, I always display it in the cars.
we got a few fines because of loan cars going out end of the month, and being seen out and about without the new disc in place till they came back.
I my road we used to get a lot of cars Abandoned without the tax discs in the screen easy to phone up and say it's missing or ran out ,the council would be round next day with sticker ,7 days later car/ van gone. They should just issue a sticker to fix on rear number plate like most of Europe.
I'll be keeping all my old tax discs, the last ones will be worth a small fortune at auction in about 50 years. ;) :B_thumb: We'll all turn around in about 30 years time and go, "remember those things called tax discs?".

In NL you have direct debit or cheque payments. if you don't pay you get the fine automaticly in the mail. Fail to pay and they stop you on a ANPR hit and then you can pay on the spot (+ interest)
