You better turn up claymore, otherwise I'll eat your hotdog. :hilarious
Post 676603 by JamesT5 on 2014-01-02 08:12:25
I'll be coming for sure, along with the AA and boot load of spare oil and car parts......(ok, may be joking about the last bits but I'll be there). And yes, I'll meet you all at FatDonalds for another artery clogging breakfast or a pre-meet chat at the very least.
The reason it's been moved this year is because they can't afford the bill for cutting the grass and Haynes are really annoyed about some Volvo owners last year trashing the jungle with their AWD's and leaving angle gear parts behind in the process. :hilarious :D (just kidding) :B_thumb:

hi, you are quicker than me again.
Just to answer a few notes above, the venue is an old mill (not a farm) and the cars will be parked on a "Lawn". Grass kept short as lots of events are held here.
hopefully here is all the info you might need:
SWEDISH DAY UK 11TH MAY 2014
We invite you all to the 7th Swedish Day UK.
2014 sees a new venue and new ideas, but the show is still for those interested in Swedish vehicles including Swedish commercial vehicles as well as all other Swedish products.
Our new home is at Haslebury Mill, just outside Crewkerne. A fantastic old 19th Centaury Mill with lots of history everywhere you look.
The main Swedish Day will take place on the Sunday but this year we are planning to make the show into a longer event for those wishing to make a weekend of it all. On the Saturday afternoon you can enjoy a tour of the local countryside with a road trip being organised by Etienne Morsa who lives in Belgium but loves England. Saturday evening will see a carvery cooked by the chefs at the Mill. Limited camping will be available if wanted.
For the first time we have introduced a vehicle fee of £5.00. (no charge for occupants or foot visitors)
This is to help us with running costs and monies left over will be donated to a charity.
The chosen charity for 2014 is “Cancer Research UK”
Each vehicle owner will be given a raffle ticket, as a thank you, for a nice gift.
On Sunday, the chiefs will cook up a breakfast for those arriving hungry as well as a Hog Roast at lunch time. The Mill’s bar will also be available during the day.
There will be an area available for a few trade stands and auto jumble alongside our sponsor’s displays.
As always the event will be a leisurely day out, come along, park up and meet friends old and new, chat, admire, eat, drink and chat a bit more.
There will be a few prizes given out, favourite Saab/Volvo, favourite truck, furthest travelled etc.
Application forms can be found on the web site; however they will also be in the presentation pack on the day if required.
Thank you very much for supporting the first years of Swedish Day with a big thank you to Haynes for their support in the early years.
More details at www.swedishday.co.uk Any questions. please email me. We look forward to seeing you on the 11th May.

Swedish Day is creeping up faster than ever this year but I wanted to check in with a few extra details.
Camping.... We went to the Mill the other day and looked at the camping and caravan options,
there is room for about 10 tents but your car would not be beside you. The grassed area is behind a fence.
There is no charge but you will need to remember there is no toilet outside business hours. Toilets are inside the Bar and restaurant.
The area for the caravans is behind the Tithe Barn on hard standing with space for about 20 vans but again please let me know, You can stay both Saturday and Sunday night but please be aware that there is a wedding taking place in the barn so music could go on until the small hours. No charge again but as with the tents, no toilets after hours.
The Saturday tour is coming together very well, Etienne has arranged a very nice slow country tour covering about 55 miles and including visits to a pottery, a cider mill and Lyme Regis.
We are still planning the Saturday night carvery and details will be next on the list.
On the Sunday, Rob Voisey from XLPest, will be there with a few hawks and an owl for you to admire.
Lance Cole has offered a prize for a new category, 'Most characterful oily rag Swede' oily rag being a dirty old unrestored but daily driver, so no excuse now,
Any questions? please PM and I will get to you as soon as possible.
I think that's it for now, until next time....
Robin.

How's that dictating? So if you're ever invited somewhere, let's say a wedding, you don't RSVP, as you don't want to be dictated to.
I have noticed you never have a problem putting your name on the list for the softies meet, or is that because you're the one doing the dictating?

Over the past few months I started the softies meet threads so of course I would put my name down.
You normally get INVITED to a wedding you don`t have to put your name to attend !!!!!!!
You are telling me as my name is not down for the Swedish day I can`t go ................................ now that is dictating.

I didn't say you couldn't go, you asked that if your name wasn't down, that meant you weren't going, if you haven't put your name on the attendance list, that would suggest you weren't going.

Swedish Day is almost here so its time to write the final notes.
This message is going out to all, so if a question I may ask has been replied by you already then don’t panic, that’s my job.
All the events mentioned are taking place at Haselbury Mill and their post code is TA18 7NY. Haselbury Mill is located just off the A30 about a mile outside Crewkerne (Yeovil side)
The weekend starts off on Saturday the 10th with a Road Tour of the area. Organised by Etienne from Huy in Belgium and I will publically thank him here for his hard work.
It’s not a race but we plan to set off at around 11.00 and then the day is yours. I will be there from 10.00am.
The evening carvery meal (10th again) is looking to be a very popular event. There is an option for a vegetarian dish and also kiddies meals if you would prefer. The restaurant we are using is above the main bar. The stairs are just inside the main door. The bar and restaurant is the first building you come to on your right, just past the pond.
Please note that there is a wedding taking place on the Saturday.
Sunday 11th and Swedish Day takes place over the whole of the grounds. We have been given “The Tithe Barn” for the day and in here you will find food and drinks served all day, hot and cold,,, and hot and cold. Toilets are also in The Barn. It’s a very large building so if we do see a small drop of rain you can shelter inside.
Please use the main entrance when arriving at the show where, you will be greeted by members of “South West Saab” who are kindly helping out.
Trucks and caravans are requested to make their way to the exit which is a few yards up from the entrance. The gate way is wider and more suitable for the wider vehicle set up.
Well, I hope that I have covered everything, if there are any questions please don’t hesitate to ask away.
Robin.

For the first time we have introduced a vehicle fee of £5.00.
This is to help us with running costs and monies left over will be donated to a charity.
The chosen charity for 2014 is “Cancer Research UK”
Each vehicle owner will be given a raffle ticket, as a thank you, for a chance to win a nice gift.

Has anyone who is attending Swedish day, got a spare / scrap front hub bit, what the brake caliper and wheel bolts too. It will save me trawling the scrap yard, its for a brake mock up and will not be going on car....

My T5 will probably look a bit dirty when I arrive because it will be raining heavily here, you'll have to take my word for it that I did detail it yesterday.
On a plus note, Sarah and myself are bringing 2 friends along, one has the 740 but he's leaving that back here in Mid-Wales as he's not 100% confident about its ability to get there and back. It'll be there first time at a Volvo meet event so please welcome them with open arms. We aim to be at Sparkford McD's around 9am but it might be a bit after. What time is everyone going from there to the event?

Another weekend.. Another meet.
Thanks to all for making another excellent meet. VPCUK had their presence felt by taking the whole width of the field. For me it started yesterday with me throwing my spanners in the garage after discovering my expensive error... I though F*** it I'm going. Woke up at stupid o'clock thinking that I'm going to be late only to realise it was still dark outside and the electric had reset my clock. So at 02:30 I went back to sleep.
At 07:00 I started. After the three "S's" I got ready to leave around 07:15ish. Unfortunately I couldn't find my wallet and 20mins later I knew that I'd fail to get to Popham Services to start the convey down. Ah well I had time to run the car through a car wash then. Start my way down. Without incriminating myself an average of 12MPG at licence taking speeds allowed me to get to Sparkford around 09:00 for a McD's breakfast..
The Convoy to the site allowed all of us to park together like a big happy family. After Carrying out a bit of landscape gardening I parked up.:shhh:...
The site was a good site to be at. Fine building and Hog Roast bap with coffee to start, although I have wonder if an MP was local as they had a duck house and moat, probably paid for on expenses..
As usual great day... Usual banter... Definitely worth a drive down it's not just a car park..
For the Northerners reference, we had a S60R make its way from Manchester. There were SAAB boys from as far as Belgium.
Also now even happier as Sharkey confirmed that my car flames on over run!!
Fingers crossed for next year, same time. Same place 10 May 2015
Another weekend.. Another meet.
Thanks to all for making another excellent meet. VPCUKadr there presence felt by taking the whole width of the field.
Without incriminating myself an average of 12MPG at licence tanking speeds allowed me to get to Sparkford around 09:00 for a McD's breakfast..
Same place 10 May 2015
On the way back, the wife and I were at licence taking speeds, and he flew passed us (twice as he had to stop for fuel such were the speeds he was going).
Absolutely a great day, it's not just the drive to the event, or the cars even, it's the people, and the laugh we have. Good to meet Ian (Icooney) as a fellow P2R owner he wasn't all doom and gloom about how bad they are, and how the whole car will explode because it's an R, but gave me some good tips regarding the intercooler, (also he actually uses his car rather than just polishes it ;) )thanks mate. :B_Thumb:
Meeting some old friends is always enjoyable, so good to see Harvey, Nathan, Sarkey San, Graham and Annemarie, Wayne, Neal, James, Martin, Jim, and Rob, you guys really made the day as enjoyable as it was. Congrats to Sarkey San (Sharkey R) winning the Young Swede catagory, obviously it was the car, and not the driver. Looking forward to next year, May 10th people, put it in your diaries.

By the way, for those of you who didn't got or I didn't get around to telling, and the reason I didn't get to McD's for 09:00 hours.......
Not only did I have to stop for petrol but I got as far as Raglan (Monmouthshire) and the T5 decided to blow a coil pack. Ruddy typical. Thankfully I just so happened to have the spares I got from WobblyDave, in the boot and all the tools to fix it, so 20 minutes prattling around at Magor Services in the rain and it was fixed again. But I think this car must have a grudge against me or something so I'm going to call it Christine from now on! :hilarious

The convoy into the showground must have been a sight - 13 cars pottering down the dual carriageway (we let Graham take point :slap: ) and it must've been a weird one for the owner of the V50 that joined in the middle of the convoy lol. Not to mention the bemused look on the old fella's face, in one of the villages we went through, as he watched volvo after volvo go past him.
Well done to everybody who showed - the standard of cars was superb and you've all done yourselves, and VPC proud!

Swedish Day UK 2014.
Swedish Day 2014 was our 7th event and this year also moved to a new home. Our new location was the beautiful setting of Haslebury Mill, which is located just outside Crewkerne. A fantastic 19th Centaury Mill with lots of history everywhere you look.
Traditionally Swedish Day always takes place on the Sunday with a carvery held on the Saturday evening. This year we added a new item to the mix in the guise of a Road Tour. The idea was Etienne Morsa's who lives in Belgium and between him and his friends at "The Saab Farm" they produced a very leisurely 60 mile route taking in Muchelney Pottery, Perrys Cider and the seaside town of Lyme Regis. The tour was so popular that we will arrange for another drive in 2015.
The Carvery on the Saturday night was very popular and we managed to fill the attic restaurant with very happy diners. A big thank you to the chef and staff for making everybody very happy.
Sunday morning saw Kerry and I up with the larks to set up the flags and signs before Swedish cars started to arrive. We had the whole of Haselbury Mill at our disposal and needed to try and let everybody know where things were located. It was a new adventure to us and would be new to all our visitors.
Alex and Azabeth were on the main driveway at 8.30 when the first cars started to arrive, the sun was out and it was warm, a few showers were promised but mainly it was going to a be a very dry day. All the cars were parked around the very well kept lawn beside the pond. Trucks and Trade were located outside the Tithe Barn, a short crossing over a flowing brook.
A first for this year was an entrance fee to help towards the costs with the surplus going to a charity. The first charity of choice was "Cancer Research" and we must thank everybody who happily helped.
The Saabs, Scanias and Volvos came from all four corners of the UK, and were joined by many of our friends from mainland Europe.
During the day there were ten judging competitions going on. Three were named “The Most Admired Volvo, Saab and Truck” and was sponsored by "Chris Knott Insurance" and "Tailored Transport". Each entrant was given the task of choosing their Most Admired Volvo, Truck & Saab at the show. Another was “Best in Show”, sponsored by DCA Saab Specialists. The local Saab garage "Astley Saab" was there to choose their own favourite Saab. Andy and Lynn from "Send Fresh Chocolates" chose their favourite Volvo at the show. Andy Briggs chose his favourite "Young Swede" and Chris Hamley gave an award to the "Furthest Travelled". Dr Os Reid gave an award entitled "Best Modified Swede" and Lance Cole introduced a new award called "Most characterful oily rag Swedes"
A big thank you to all the sponsors for supplying the trophies.
The 10 prizes at the 2014 show were awarded like this.
The Chris Knott “Most Admired Saab”, chosen by the people at Swedish Day and presented on behalf of Paul Channer, went to Mike & Norma Thompson with their Saab 96 2-stroke.
The Chris Knott “Most Admired Volvo”, chosen by the people at Swedish Day and presented on behalf of Paul Channer, went to Russ Tidbury and his Volvo 1800S.
The Tailored Transport "Most Admired Truck" went to Irene Wittich and her Scania P94D-220.
Send Fresh Chocolates "Favourite Volvo” was awarded by Andy to John Denmead and his Volvo 480ES.
“Astley Saabs Favourite Saab” was presented by Jerry to Mark and Carol Gardiner and their Saab 9-3 TTiD Convertible.
DCA Saab Specialists "Best in Show" was presented to Peter briggs and his Saab Sonett.
Andy Briggs Property Services "Favourite Young Swede" went to Steve Sharkey in a Volvo S60R.
The Chris Hamley "furthest travelled" went to Amaat & Elke DeJaggher who travelled across from Belgium.
Dr Os Reid presented an award for "Best Modified Swede" and Graham Macdonald with his Saab 96V4, Stig Bloqvist RAC Rally Replica was the lucky winner.
And Lance Cole chose two winners for his "Most characterful oily rag Swedes" prize, these going to, A white Saab 99 and Peter Yapp and his Volvo Amazon 122s
Links to pictures and a short video can be found at www.swedishday.co.uk.
I would like to thank everybody for supporting this event, the helpers, the nine sponsors mentioned above, Roger and Minnie for the location and everything they did for us at Haselbury Mill, the internet forums and blogs, my friends Alex & Isabel for "always" being there. Very special thanks to my wife Kerry and daughter Azabeth for understanding the passion. But the biggest thank you goes to all the owners of those lovely Scanias, Saabs and Volvos that came along on the day.
Next years show will be held on Sunday the 10th May, as well a few things on the 9th.
Robin.
