Spaceframed volvo T5 AWD - 4-600hp target

Hi all, just in the process of building a space frame for my current car, iv opted to use the volvo t5 2.5 AWD system.. And picked a donar up really cheap from a crash damaged (rear end) v70 1997 model
Iv just been reading up and been told this ain't the engine to run..
I want to keep the AWD but read it's soft..
I'm hoping to run between 400-600bhp wide power figure I know but iv got £2500 for engine and components inc upgrades to gearbox if any...
Just wanted to know your opinions as to running the 2.5 or opting for another T5
Any help will be much appreciated as I'm new the the T5 engine..
Any details on were to start on modifying these engine would also be good as there Low pressure engines and also knew to them and not sure on the turbo to run etc..
Thanks in advance hope this all makes sense
Il upload pics ASAP
Ashley

The best 5 cylinder volvo engine is the 2.4 t5 engine from a 2005-2007 v70/s60 t5

I don't think you're going to get 400 to 600 bhp for 2 and a half grand to be honest, the turbo alone would be around that price. still looking forward to updates though.

Iv got a Gt3071r already but not sure if there any good for these cars as it's of my previous

Yep, that turbo can certainly get you to 500bhp

It's just everything else I need to get sorted, as to which engine, as I'm guessing the one mentioned above are pretty rare after a quick look online

The 2.5 will be fine, just make sure you shim the block or even darton sleeve it.

Amen to that. My internals cost a grand.
Post 677852 by Harland292 on 2014-01-05 21:23:33
So my 1997 block will be fine if shimmed as that's fine, also arp bolts through out, car will be having a tubular equal length manifold with 3" downpipe reducing the 2.5 through midsection to reduce tumbling gas flows..
Head will be rebuilt ported and polished, vxr injectors and decent intercooler mig welded stainless intercooler pipes..
Then I'm guessing it's down to ecu :/ and been told to get an 850r one but not sure on this as I don't know much about it..
Would this be enough for good power..
Going to look up about the Darton sleeves
Just to confirm on this manifolds paid for to be done aswell as exhaust already so that won't be out the £2500 budget

Starting from scratch I'd be tempted to use the 2.4 block not the 1997.

I could be way off here, but hasn't Death Bringer just managed to get something like 400bhp from his 2.5. and it's a stock block, isn't it? Perhaps look him up on here.

OK, 1: why restrict the exhaust to 2.5", 2: best go for a twin vvt head to start with and port that 3: VXR injectors won't be any where near good enough enough.
you will have to get a custom map, 850r ecu means nothing (that will only give you 250bhp)

to give you an idea mate my 2.5T has just made 350bhp on stock internals, i fekkin hate all you doubters you lot did exactly the same too me when i first started, thats the reason i carried on too stick 2 fingers up too all the doubters.

3" straight threw it is just thought it would keep the hot air flow clean rather than cooling down and tumbling, if 3" will be better that's what il get, il email them now..
Vxr injectors not efficient enough - Do you have a link to a set in mind.. This was my next purchase
Also 850r ecu would get a custom map anyway otherwise it's pointless but was told the 1997 v70 ecu wasn't as good when custom mapped ??

Yes it's all down to the mapping I agree totally but rt got 591 on race fuel and a budget of a little more than 2.5k :) targets have got to be realistic and as many people will say a 500bhp Volvo ain't no quicker than a 350bhp Volvo in the real world :)
Post 677872 by claymore on 2014-01-05 21:42:42
850R ecu is 4.3, you will have much better results starting with a 4.4 ecu, you need to look at probably 750cc intectors.

I think Wobbly Dave would disagree with you. Your car has responded well, because you have supporting mods, a pre ME7 with the same mods and a remap would give the same sort of power.

The 2005> 2.4t5 is the easiest to tune, while the earlier 2.3s are stronger, but the strongest Volvo engine is supposed to be the older 4cylinder redblocks which are hugely strong, but would probably need a standalone ecu to get the best out of.
Think it may be best to decide on how much power you really want, because if your happy with around 400bhp then the 2.4 would be cheapest option.

400hp would be fine given the cars going to weigh around 800kg I'm sure power to weight will play a big part

Ok, my engine speck would be a good starting point for you,
The block is a 2000 model 2.4 v70r 83mm piston type with Mahle pistons, shimmed liners sten parner h section rods with arp studs.
The head is off a v70/s60 t5 2005 model with the vvt cams and the vvt deleted with blanks made. The head has the smaller valve stems and is ported and polished. It also has solid lifters and s60r head gasket.
anoyingly I've just given a 2.4 block already shimmed away to the scrap man because nobody wanted it on here.

He is well known and has done many quick volvos, but it can be hard to get hold of him if you don't know him.
If you can do the work yourself, i'd just copy what claymore has done but with your turbo.

Just a quick query..
Seen as this build all new I don't fancy sticking An old gt3071r on it may aswell just stay with the other car and be sold with the engine when broken as it will sell better this way.
Would this turbo be any good??
http://bit.ly/1kmQbJ8
Will be running a custom manifold and downpipe anyway and with the car being spaceframe iv got a lot if room around the manifold/turbo area..
Sorry for the dum questions as you can probably tell I just pay people to build stuff for me, wish I had the time and knowledge to dig deep and build it myself
