I read that the 2.0t auto returns about 29mpg average which I thought was reasonable... the same source then quoted the 2.3 T5 as 30mpg at which point I laughed hard and fell off my chair.
So any 2.0t owners care to share what real figures their cars are doing?
Thanks

Real world my mothers '04 plate displayed an average of 36 mpg which was never reset from the time she had it and the facelift '05 plate showed 35 mpg again never reset for the time she had it. Driving style she doesn't roar around and sticks to between 60-70 mph when on motorways where possible. She does around 14,000 miles a year of which it's mostly out of town driving. She's got a 205 hp D5 R-Design now and tbh it's getting late 40's atm, although she loves the urgency of it compared with the 2 previous 2.0T's

hehe, this is following a few pms we've had. I think someone needs a stage-zero ;)
Post 678141 by Biff on 2014-01-06 23:01:39
I can get 30 out of mine with 10 miles at 70mph & 3 miles of city driving.
I have to drive like it's my last tank of fuel but it's possible.

Wish mine done that haha.. What speed do you sit at?

Stage zero? I need four cylinders lol! May disconnect an injector and corresponding coil pack :)
So realistically, they'll be achieving 28 ish with gentle 30-40mph stop/start driving?
Are these all autos we are talking about?

67-70mph bud, that messured by filling the tank driving to where im going and filling again btw, not going by the fuel computer as mine reads a little optimistic as its runing 3.8 bar

on the 13 mile drive to my mum's, with 30, 40 and 60 limits, hills, traffic lights and some forest roads, I can hit 43.3 if I granny-drive it.

Mine would never get anywhere near that, its NEVER gotten into the 40's and a long steady motorway run returns 34. My 530i auto was lighter on fuel than my manual Volvo 2.3 :/
Plus yours had covered more miles than mine I've only done a snip above 100k.

I think the six speed boxes must help a bit as I don't even remember my R being as heavy on fuel as my FWD 2.3 :(

Is that the 2.0 auto or manual?
Post 678155 by M-R-P on 2014-01-07 00:14:53
I have a 5 speed manual :)

My 2.4T5 manual gets 29mpg with a mixture of country lanes, fast A road and a few miles town. Wifes 2.5 C70 T5 auto gets 27 on the same run. We keep the local garage owner in nice foreign holidays!!

Having owned my s60 2.0t auto for a few months now I've got a decent idea on the mpg it gets from different types of journeys. For stop start driving around town it manages about 25mpg, for the 10 mile journey to work (mainly 40mph but with some 60mph driving) it manages around 31mpg and on a run with mainly motorway/dual carriage way driving its about 39-42mpg.
For its size and the fact that's its an auto its ok on fuel, but in reality I'm only saving a tenner a week over my 540..........

I don't even look at mine lol just feed it when it needs it

Get around 16 mpg average from mine lol

My S60R auto returns around 26-28 mpg on A road run.
The V70R manual returns around 29-31 mpg on A road run.
Should add I don't drive like a boy racer.
Around town I just laugh more like 9-14 mpg

Wow, thats poor, worse than my 540 by the sounds of it. That could manage low 30s on a long run. Although it was really poor in town driving, I managed 7.7mpg once lol

So as you say, realistically the S60/V70 2 litre auto is no great achiever when it comes to fuel.
I too had a BM, E60 530i 6 speed auto... was better on juice than my V70 T5 manual :(

Its hard to say really, generally autos aren't the best at short journeys anyway, and when I say its only £10 cheaper a week, than the 540, that would be driving the 540 gently. The bmw could be decent on fuel, for its size, but drive it hard and you soon realise how much fuel a 4.4 v8 can get through! In heavy stop start traffic the s60 would be far better.
Also the bmw would get low 30s cruising at 65mph were the s60 can get low 40s at 70mph and doesn't drop much until you go past 80mph.
I think the problem with the 2.0t is that you do have to give it some, to make decent progress, so if you do lots of miles then d5 would be the better choice.
(I hope that all makes sense)

When I decatted my exhaust I began getting more miles. 30 to 40 depends drive style. Stage 2 map. If i boot it then it's crazy. I have lpg on my car. That has saved me £7100 plus over last 6 years do just over a grand saving a year. 300 mile on £36 of lpg on a stage 2 map.
