Sounds like you're over the moon with it indeed! Like you said if it's that different to your T-5K then it makes the current mods all the more worthwhile especially when you consider a T5 powered 850 with 1.2 bar isn't exactly what would be classed as slow... Be good to see it at the RR event :)

Be good to see it at the RR event :)
Yep, I'm looking forward to seeing what it does on the rollers, I have a couple of little tweaks I want to do before then, even though it has new suspension on it, I was again amazed at how poor the standard handling is on these, after gradually modifying the other car over 4 years, you don't notice the improvements until you drive another one, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this car, but the other one is in a different league.

Post 693696 by claymore on 2014-03-07 17:29:42

One of the problems I've found with RIP kits is the way they all (all the ones I've made) seem to gradually ride up and eventually pop off the turbo, the original top pipe has a bracket to stop this happening, so today I just took the original bracket put a 90 degree bend in the bottom and bolted it to the cam cover, problem solved, RIP top pipe is now solid. I also replaced the top part with one piece instead of two. Original as I had the car: Image Modified with bracket: Image Image Image

Time to update this thread a bit, not a lot happening really, it's just the daily work horse, all I've done really is put some tatty pegs on it, and this weekend it will have a repaired TC splitter fitted. so have some pictures. Polished ready for VT200 meet. Image Image and the splitter, this is how I got it, in two pieces. Image a bit of fiberglass soon sorted it out and some old paint I had lying around. Image next some black satin base cote. Image then a dusting of metallic blue through an anti slip mat followed by copious amounts of clear lacquer. Image Image

I only managed a 14.7 with 291bhp, I don't really expect any more on the dyno this time, I would just like to squeeze another 9 bhp from somewhere, so I'll be running 10% meth in the petrol tank as well.

New (old) boost gauge fitted, and set up a duel stage boost control as well as the mbc, so now I can have standard mapped boost of 1.3 bar or when I flick the switch it enables my boost pressure switch which will trigger 1.6 bar as soon as it sees 1.1 bar which should mean less wheel spin in first and second as boost is limited and then all boost after that :) hopefully make launching at Shakey a bit better next month ;) Image Image Image Image

A bit of ducting for the air box and a shiny new alloy radiator :) Image Image Image

Post 810784 by claymore on 2017-03-31 12:53:07

OK, update on the charge cooler, initial monitoring has shown up a couple of interesting results, firstly, I've made an airbox so that air from the bonnet vent can go directly to the filter, inside the ducting there is a small fan that I can switch on when the car is stationary (works really well) the first surprise is so far I see no correlation with the temp of the air going into the air filter and the air going into the intake manifold. (I'll do some more testing by blocking off the bonnet vent and taking the airbox lid off so that the air filter is again taking in engine bay temps) engine intake temps seems to be a steady 6 to 10 degrees hotter than the outside temp. Image Two red gauges are temps in and out of the charge cooler, the blue gauges monitor engine bay temp and airbox temp. Image One more result I wasn't expecting was, the fan on the radiator actually seems to have the opposite effect, (I've made sure it's blowing through the rad) when I put it on, it seems to cause heat from the cars engine coolant rad to be drawn into the charge cooler rad. I have a cunning plan to get over this small issue :)

Post 810788 by Dangerous Dave on 2017-03-31 21:05:15

Nice R&D :) You need a neater all in one solution for your temp gauges, wouldn't be hard to connect all the sensors to an arduino clone (cheaper) and display them on a small screen.
As it happens I do have some spare arduino boards and an lcd lying around. What voltages do the sensors work on, or have you got a link to a datasheet?
It would be just as easy to just get 4 suitable 5v thermistors, how big is the lcd? Also, I might need to have a chat about making a 7" display for the T-10.

Post 810800 by Dangerous Dave on 2017-04-01 09:34:27

Yes that would save any messing with converting voltages. The lcd is only 2.4 inches same as my data display project (ignore how slow the refresh is, I have a faster processor on it now, just need to do another video): A 7" display might need a different arduino (more connections) to run but it's not impossible to do. Other ways to do it are to use an arduino to process the signals from the sensors and output the data to a raspberry pi to do the data display stuff as the pi has video outputs.

Post 810801 by claymore on 2017-04-01 10:15:37

I've just bought a starter kit and a pack of assorted sensors to have a play with, more for front splitter and rear wing control, I think it's time I made some sort of effort to learn this stuff, but would love for you to make me some sort of display for the temp sensors.

Cool, if you check out banggood.com they have loads of arduino prototyping boards and the like cheaper than you can get them here in the uk, they're good for playing with. I have a test board setup on a bit of perspex with a breadboard stuck next to it for mocking things up and testing code. It's only basic but it does what I need it to. Would the 2.4 inch screen be ok for your temps gauge?

Just been looking at the nextion displays, absolutely perfect for the T-10 dashboard, either one big 7" screen or maybe two 3.5" screens to display each engine and a small 2.4" for the speedo

Post 810809 by Dangerous Dave on 2017-04-01 14:49:03

Did some quick code for the temperature display. And since it was raining I thought I'd fit it in the vent so you can get an idea of what it would be like (colours are a bit washed out in the pic but are really nice in reality) Image Drivers eye view Image I like the nextion stuff, too expensive for me though. Post 810827 by Dangerous Dave on 2017-04-02 01:23:07

They do look ok but still missing that wow factor, they're functional enough at the moment. I had to upgrade to a different processor for my display as it has to deal with all the converting of the streamed data from the ecu (some 40 odd variables) and some of those include division which eats processing power. I'm trying to get a video of it working but Mrs Dave has trouble keeping the camera still when I'm driving. Anyway, I digress....

small update on my temp monitoring, airbox temp definitely has no effect on intake temps, BUT engine bay temps really do, on the open road with ambient at 15 degrees, the intake temp will be around 20 degrees, (with engine bay temp at around 20 degrees) In traffic the bay temps can climb over 60 degrees and the air going into the charge cooler can climb from 30 to 40 degrees and intake temps will rise to 25 degrees. once on the open road the temps come down again.

// In this case a temperature reading is being plotted in the range -10 to +50 degrees C, as the value // increases the segments turn from blue (cold!) to red (hot!) // ##################################################################################################### // Function to Draw the meter on the screen int ringMeter(float value, int vmin, int vmax, int x, int y, int r, char *units, byte scheme) { x += r; I was going to make a Shania Twain 'That don't impress me much' comment... then I started doubting if it actually was her on your in car TV  Glad to see the update Colin.

Looks like a juicy supercharger found it's way in there :o
Looks like a juicy supercharger found it's way in there :o
It wouldn't be Claymore's car if a supercharger didn't wind up nestling under the bonnet....
It wouldn't be Claymore's car if a supercharger didn't wind up nestling under the bonnet....
And it no longer is Claymores car.

Hopefully we'll still get updates though!
Don't overheat it :P
That's me going in a different direction, compound charging should be fun and expand my knowledge a fair bit more, I'm already machining up a part that may grace the engine bay, which will depend on what is already fitted, whilst I was making bits for Gul's next round of upgrades, seemed sensible to make a spare, which now can possibly go onto the RS.
