Tbh it makes it more of an occasion when you don't use it on a daily basis I'll give you that :)
When I had my t4, I had an audi 80 at the same time and the audi was a lovely cruiser. Nice purchase, certain looks like a good one. I'm sure you'll find it hard once driving it about to not play around with it lol.
Thanks to James for selling me a lovely car. I have never driven another modified 850 other than my own, and am very pleased that it seems very tame in comparison, it did pull well and boosted to 1.2 bar but just didn't have the urgency of the T5K.

Looking forward to seeing it at the RR day, glad your happy with it.
Looking forward to seeing it at the RR day, glad your happy with it.
Over the moon with it, needs tidying up a little around the edges but overall it's a great car with no rattles or shakes, but I've got to put the short shift back on pretty damn quick..lol
Glad you liked your new car mate .now enjoy
Glad your happy with it, gone to a good home :)
Sounds like you're over the moon with it indeed! Like you said if it's that different to your T-5K then it makes the current mods all the more worthwhile especially when you consider a T5 powered 850 with 1.2 bar isn't exactly what would be classed as slow... Be good to see it at the RR event :)

Be good to see it at the RR event :)
Yep, I'm looking forward to seeing what it does on the rollers, I have a couple of little tweaks I want to do before then, even though it has new suspension on it, I was again amazed at how poor the standard handling is on these, after gradually modifying the other car over 4 years, you don't notice the improvements until you drive another one, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this car, but the other one is in a different league.
Hopefully not more then frankies or he be spitting feather lol
Hopefully not more then frankies or he be spitting feather lol
I would like to see more than 280 bhp
Does it feel quick then ?
Does it feel quick then ?
It feels about the same as the other car did about two years ago when I fitted the first t28 turbo.

I'm sure you will love it and cherish it Colin, it couldn't of gone to a more worthy member... although it does look slightly afraid sitting there :)
So, it would seem I am now again one of the boost pipe blowers (I thought those days were gone), so time to make a new top pipe next week.
Interesting, care to share
Sorry Adrian I completely missed this! Yeah I had a 2008 Titanium X Sport 2.2 TDi Mondeo that the Police rather kindly decided to "park" or should I say crash into during some sort of what I can only assume was a persuit. It was parked on the road outside. First I heard was when the Police Sgt who was sent as the officer who crashes supervisor knocked on the door to tell me. Unfortunately no pics... I was too angry to even think about it and it was hiab away the same night :(

One of the problems I've found with RIP kits is the way they all (all the ones I've made) seem to gradually ride up and eventually pop off the turbo, the original top pipe has a bracket to stop this happening, so today I just took the original bracket put a 90 degree bend in the bottom and bolted it to the cam cover, problem solved, RIP top pipe is now solid. I also replaced the top part with one piece instead of two. Original as I had the car: Modified with bracket:
That doesn't look like it will be moving again in a hurry.
good idea i keep having this problem
That was a recurring problem I had on the S70, it did my head in! Making some sort of bracket like you have was always on my list of things to do. It will be getting done on the 850! Nice job!
Only problem with doing it my way is I haven't got a spark plug cover, but it would just need a longer bolt
Idle control unpluged??

Well, that's the green bitch good for another 12 months :)

The wheels look like they are toe in, get a proper 4 wheel alignment done so the rears can be adjusted.
No mate, the ware is actually on the side wall, I'm assuming they've come off the front and were rubbing on something when it had coilovers on it.
Yep I would say they were fitted to the fronts, and the steering limit stops a bit worn at the time.

you want to see the r888's I've just taken off the front of mine after Colin and my blast thought the welsh lanes, they make his look new, I'm that ashamed I not even going post a picture, but the front suspension definately needs overhauling
Just a bit of bling for the engine, I'm always buying bits off F1 cars then I think 'what can I do with that' , so this is the brake light mount off a Minardi F1 car.
Coooooo-ooool!

Time to update this thread a bit, not a lot happening really, it's just the daily work horse, all I've done really is put some tatty pegs on it, and this weekend it will have a repaired TC splitter fitted. so have some pictures. Polished ready for VT200 meet. and the splitter, this is how I got it, in two pieces. a bit of fiberglass soon sorted it out and some old paint I had lying around. next some black satin base cote. then a dusting of metallic blue through an anti slip mat followed by copious amounts of clear lacquer.
Copycat :) looks good thou
Copycat :) looks good thou
Nowhere near as nice as a real CF one, but I didn't want it just satin or gloss black.
Very good, clever that. Now repaint the bumper and I'll be happy :P
Very good, clever that. Now repaint the bumper and I'll be happy :P
yep, I've been putting it off for over a year :)
Thought I'd paint the grill surround the same as the splitter. And a couple of engine pics:
Prototype engine torque limiter, using Volvo parts :), I have no idea if it will work, time will tell tomorrow when I give it a bit of a test.
Quick blast down the track today, looks like boost is all back to normal, this was in no way a 60 to 100 test as I was shifting well before the red line.

least the splitter's gone to a good owner =) looks good man with the black going off the road me not having the time nor skill to fix it properly least its gone to someone who can use it. besides id end up doing a crap repair and itd drive me nuts. be easier on my ocd to get a new one or a viva performance one if i suddenly become ritch
very nice, it will be interesting to see what the rolling road says that translates too, guessing that is 21-23psi by the angle of the gauge
I'll either drop it back down to about 18psi for the dyno, or if i get a chance I'll fit the co2 spray bar onto the intercooler, and keep the boost at 23psi. and up the fuel pressure just a tad.

seems fine to be honest.
seems fine to be honest.
I was just wondering as mine is running similar pressures and running nice with exception of the boost leak problem but as soon as 4250-5250 rpm clears it's going like a trooper, might get time to drop the intercooler in before the meet, it would be interesting to compare them again.
Fitted a set of greens the other day, no detrimental effects that I can see, also made and fitted a new intake pipe and painted the boost pipe.
hows the engine damper performing Colin..?
hows the engine damper performing Colin..?
Transmits a bit more noise (especially from the power steering pump) not really tried it in anger yet.
Getting the car ready for the dyno day in a few weeks, I want to run as much boost as I can, which means I need to cool down the intake temps as much as possible, so....
Decided to tidy up the spray bar.
I see, I must start to up my game......he's not going to stay at 14.7 with this car the way he's going ....:)
All the pipework is now fitted, all I would have to do is change the bottle and fit 1 more solenoid to have nitrous :)
All the pipework is now fitted, all I would have to do is change the bottle and fit 1 more solenoid to have nitrous :)
You do realise that if you get a good result on the rolling road, you will have to back it up with a 1/4 time quicker than 14.7.....:)
I only managed a 14.7 with 291bhp, I don't really expect any more on the dyno this time, I would just like to squeeze another 9 bhp from somewhere, so I'll be running 10% meth in the petrol tank as well.
forgive my ignorance but what does the spraybar do?
forgive my ignorance but what does the spraybar do?
Sprays cryogenically cooled co2 onto the intercooler for instant cools :)

New (old) boost gauge fitted, and set up a duel stage boost control as well as the mbc, so now I can have standard mapped boost of 1.3 bar or when I flick the switch it enables my boost pressure switch which will trigger 1.6 bar as soon as it sees 1.1 bar which should mean less wheel spin in first and second as boost is limited and then all boost after that :) hopefully make launching at Shakey a bit better next month ;)

Not really done anything to the old girl, just drive and maintain, but today I made a start on new boost cooling.
Well, that seems to fit :) much less boost pipe now. Another little issue I've had is a knackered thermostat, but unfortunately one of the previous owners have mullered the screws, so not wanting to leave myself without a car, I've bodged a Renault 5 in hose thermostat into the top hose :)
you LUCKY LUCKY man! Jealous!! Nice work shoe horning that lot under the bonnet! Looks lovely
Indeed :)
So what will they make of it's latest evolution. ?
Charge cooler all finished (bar a bit of tidying up) Now I just need to monitor the temps and set the water pump at the optimal flow for best results.
To get a bit more air to the filter, I'm afraid I had to pull out the angle grinder :)
Nice ha Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
A bit of ducting for the air box and a shiny new alloy radiator :)
OK, update on the charge cooler, initial monitoring has shown up a couple of interesting results, firstly, I've made an airbox so that air from the bonnet vent can go directly to the filter, inside the ducting there is a small fan that I can switch on when the car is stationary (works really well) the first surprise is so far I see no correlation with the temp of the air going into the air filter and the air going into the intake manifold. (I'll do some more testing by blocking off the bonnet vent and taking the airbox lid off so that the air filter is again taking in engine bay temps) engine intake temps seems to be a steady 6 to 10 degrees hotter than the outside temp. Two red gauges are temps in and out of the charge cooler, the blue gauges monitor engine bay temp and airbox temp. One more result I wasn't expecting was, the fan on the radiator actually seems to have the opposite effect, (I've made sure it's blowing through the rad) when I put it on, it seems to cause heat from the cars engine coolant rad to be drawn into the charge cooler rad. I have a cunning plan to get over this small issue :)
Nice R&D :) You need a neater all in one solution for your temp gauges, wouldn't be hard to connect all the sensors to an arduino clone (cheaper) and display them on a small screen.
sounds like you're talking yourself into a job ;)
As it happens I do have some spare arduino boards and an lcd lying around. What voltages do the sensors work on, or have you got a link to a datasheet?
As it happens I do have some spare arduino boards and an lcd lying around. What voltages do the sensors work on, or have you got a link to a datasheet?
It would be just as easy to just get 4 suitable 5v thermistors, how big is the lcd? Also, I might need to have a chat about making a 7" display for the T-10.
Yes that would save any messing with converting voltages. The lcd is only 2.4 inches same as my data display project (ignore how slow the refresh is, I have a faster processor on it now, just need to do another video): A 7" display might need a different arduino (more connections) to run but it's not impossible to do. Other ways to do it are to use an arduino to process the signals from the sensors and output the data to a raspberry pi to do the data display stuff as the pi has video outputs.
I've just bought a starter kit and a pack of assorted sensors to have a play with, more for front splitter and rear wing control, I think it's time I made some sort of effort to learn this stuff, but would love for you to make me some sort of display for the temp sensors.
Cool, if you check out banggood.com they have loads of arduino prototyping boards and the like cheaper than you can get them here in the uk, they're good for playing with. I have a test board setup on a bit of perspex with a breadboard stuck next to it for mocking things up and testing code. It's only basic but it does what I need it to. Would the 2.4 inch screen be ok for your temps gauge?

Just been looking at the nextion displays, absolutely perfect for the T-10 dashboard, either one big 7" screen or maybe two 3.5" screens to display each engine and a small 2.4" for the speedo
Did some quick code for the temperature display. And since it was raining I thought I'd fit it in the vent so you can get an idea of what it would be like (colours are a bit washed out in the pic but are really nice in reality) Drivers eye view I like the nextion stuff, too expensive for me though. Plus I like the challenge of making it myself. I've got some spare clocks and was looking the other day at how I could fit an lcd into them
that looks fantastic
I with Colin on that, your really getting the hang of this dash stuff
They do look ok but still missing that wow factor, they're functional enough at the moment. I had to upgrade to a different processor for my display as it has to deal with all the converting of the streamed data from the ecu (some 40 odd variables) and some of those include division which eats processing power. I'm trying to get a video of it working but Mrs Dave has trouble keeping the camera still when I'm driving. Anyway, I digress....
You'll master it, I'm sure of that....:)
small update on my temp monitoring, airbox temp definitely has no effect on intake temps, BUT engine bay temps really do, on the open road with ambient at 15 degrees, the intake temp will be around 20 degrees, (with engine bay temp at around 20 degrees) In traffic the bay temps can climb over 60 degrees and the air going into the charge cooler can climb from 30 to 40 degrees and intake temps will rise to 25 degrees. once on the open road the temps come down again.

He jumped in front to try & stop it, ended up with a titanium bar in his leg after being crushed between the van & a house

Small update on the T-5R, time for a wheel change, But which one to choose? I've decided to have the flat bottom one on the T-5R and the Alcantara on the T-10 Still waiting for some Volvo badges to replace the Jaguar ones and I've started on a mold to make some carbon fiber centers for both wheels.
You wouldn't even know there used to be switches in there :D How are you getting on with the arduino stuff?
How are you getting on with the arduino stuff?
Lol, all the gear, no idea, I've got an Arduino uno, mega and duo, and am going to get an ESP32, I've got a couple of screens but I'm still waiting for my Nextion screen to arrive, but I wouldn't mind having a copy of your sketch to play with.
I too was looking at the ESP32 as it has more inputs than the ESP8266 No worries, it is set up to use an ILI9341 library which has the faster draw functions than the standard adafruit libaries.
Don't overheat it :P
That's me going in a different direction, compound charging should be fun and expand my knowledge a fair bit more, I'm already machining up a part that may grace the engine bay, which will depend on what is already fitted, whilst I was making bits for Gul's next round of upgrades, seemed sensible to make a spare, which now can possibly go onto the RS.
Can't wait to have a meet :D
