Hello All,
I asked a mechanic to replace all parts in the suspension a while ago. Since then I am tracing a creak.... oh joy.. I remember seeing him having quite some trouble getting the knuckle joint into the opening of the lower control arms, he had to pull the strut out hard to get the joint and the arm lined up. Now when I look at the washer on top of the strut it looks to be crooked... just not sure if this is the way it should look like. When the steering is in middle position the washer looks flush with the bearing but once you start to turn the wheel the washer tilts quite a bit:

is this normal or can the mechanic have made an error in installing the bearings? Maybe switched left and right or somehow mounted wrongly?

Looks like the rubber spring seat is on it's way out mate, with that amount of lift...
However - that aside, it looks like the stud is a little bent. This is the stud that is welded to the top of the shock absorber, goes through the rubber spring seat, which is fitted inside the top bearing. That amount of bend can be accommodated by the rubber spring seat without any real problem, maybe a slightly shorter spring seat lifespan but I doubt it.

Hello MRP,
Bearing, shock, spring seat etc are all brand spanking new...the lift of the washer is this high when the steering is turned in almost full, it tilts up on one side and down on the other.... When the steering is in the central position the washer looks like this:

Does this lift look too high? It does the same on both sides...
Thanks,
Marc

I think the metal tube might have come unbounded from the mounting rubber marc. that is what normally happens when they go.
they do normally go off centre , rather than lift up though

Hello Partsforvolvos.. I think I bought these spring seats from you guys last August... are they liable to unbound in about a 1000 miles highway driving?
I took off the washed the other day to look at the seat, I didn''t really see any cracks or tears between the centre metal tube and the surrounding rubber? But then, the car was just standing on its wheels and I did not put any force or friction to check for play.

I think the stud (the bit with the nut on the end) is bent but like I said, probably won't be a problem.

Had a quick chat with the guys from PFV.... super!!! They volunteered to check the seats and make sure I have good ones. If this is not service than I don't know what is... :-) Thanks Jamie!!
