Volvo are desparate to attract some credible history or provenance to their relatively new sub brand Polestar. In themselves the Polestar racing team are about a competent a contractor as can be found and I for one am looking forward to them getting some good results in the upcoming V8 Supercars season. However what I find unnecessary is Volvo's PR machine fabricating a longer history, provenance if you like for the Polestar sub brand than equates with reality. This vid. starts with a claim that Polestar have built Volvo racing engines for 20 odd years. They have not. Polestar came into being in 2005 when Jan 'Flash' Nilsson's Flash Engineering entity was sold to another investor and renamed. Prior to that Flash Engineering had successfully run TWR designed and built 850s and S40s whose very innovative engines, built by TWR to the regulations of the time in both BTCC and STCC, were maintained by either TWR here in the UK or Motordesign in Sweden, into the first few years of the existence of the renamed entity Prodrive designed and built S60s were run under not dissimilar arrangements, only in the last few years have Polestar Racing developed the facilities and expertise to design and build engines in house to which Volvo have every right to claim the association with the Polestar brand. 20 years history.....my arse........ more like maybe 6 ... 7 at best, what is that old adage....'never let the truth stand in the way of a good story......' V8 does sound nice ,would be nice in a S80 AWD,with that tune on it.
