I've been looking for some con-rods and have found these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400485205689?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648
all looks fine except the big end dia is 53mm and the book of lie's say it should be 50mm can this be got round or do I need to keep looking?
Post 696258 by soothingduck on 2014-03-19 14:43:20
Is the 3mm the thickness of the shell
Post 696259 by partsforvolvos.com on 2014-03-19 14:44:52
it says 53mm in my pocket databook for a b5234t for the rods. the big end bearings are 50mm, so I guess that means the bearings are 3mm thick.
anybody else confirm ?
Post 696260 by rikcougar on 2014-03-19 14:46:24
They should be a standard bore for the big end bearing, no reason to make them oversize
Wobbly Dave is probably the man with the answer

Regrinds are classed as Undersize and cannot be Oversize!

So the con-rod big-end dia is 53mm and so the Ebay rods are correct

Ordered
Thanks gents

I thought we were discussing the big end bore in the conrod not the crankpin?
Post 696413 by Wobbly Dave on 2014-03-19 22:35:46
I spent 100 quid per rod for K1 tech rods. They are US made. I've spent money on where I believe it really counts because once the rods are in there, there is little you can do about it.

The car will only be abit better than stock when finished,so I think they should be ok.

James, thank you for that!
You can find them and order here on my website: http://kalmar-union.com/parts/volvo-850_s70_v70_c70-engine/
The price includes VAT and UK mainland delivery by TNT.
The supplier quoted earlier is in Hong Kong so you would have to pay freight to the UK and, depending on just how it is delivered to you there should be VAT to pay.
Regards, Don.

Free delivery but the VAT and import duty is going to be a wallop.
Post 696511 by soothingduck on 2014-03-20 11:37:59
I know I will need to pay vat but it will not be £135
Post 696513 by don kalmar union on 2014-03-20 11:42:37
I stand corrected Andy on the free delivery from HK. The VAT payable will be about £60 and there should be no other duties although there may be extra UK handling charges and other hidden extras payable prior to delivery.
My sets also contain ARP bolts and I naturally buy them from a fellow in China whose brother has a take away at the bottom of my street........
Don.

S60R 2.5's are 143mm long, pre-ME7 2.3's are 139mm, & ME7 2.3's are 147mm

2.3 with 147mm rod = loads of torque
2.3 with 147mm rod = loads of torque
im under the impression 2.4 t5 share the R rods bt if your saying the 2.3 are longer they obv dont share the same bore.... (2.3 and 4)

I was just quoting this and saying the longer rod would give it more torque.

i thought the same but i was told 2.4 t5 rods arnt as strong as the 2.5 s60r
Post 697906 by soothingduck on 2014-03-25 14:18:19
I thought there was 2 sizes one 139mm for the 2.3's and one 143mm for the s60r 2.5's
No idea about the 2.4's
Post 697907 by soothingduck on 2014-03-25 14:23:59
Anyway the point is that I have 5 nice shiny rods that should cope really well in a sub 300 hp engine and are whisking they're way by DHL rickshaw and should be here in the morning.
If i'm not in I believe they will drop them off at my local takeaway.

ye i get this this. a 2.3 set and a 2.5 set
then a 2.4 woulvd been 2.5 rods and 2.3 bore...
are these for that engine that are supose to already have them done?
2.3 with 147mm rod = loads of torque
you'll need the shorter ME7 pistons to go with it
850 left, ME7 (aftermarket) right
so do the s60r ones fit the 2.4 t5.
if your using the 93mm stroke, & ME7 pistons then yes you'd want the S60R (143mm) rods
bore x stroke
81mm x 90mm = 2318.9cc
81mm x 93mm = 2396.2cc
83mm x 90mm = 2434.8cc
83mm x 93mm = 2516.0cc
Post 697912 by soothingduck on 2014-03-25 14:43:01
My engine it a 2.3 and my rods are 139.5mm which are for bt52**t3 engines. I will reuse the volvo pistons. The 143mm are for the others

while you've got the engine apart, have you thought about changing the crank to a later one (post 2002). 2.8kg lighter

for the B5244T5 Volvo went with the 81mm x 93mm so the S60R has got a wider bore

They look really good. Looks like the shell is cracked rather than cut. I've not had one apart yet but they do look that way.
Got a list as long as my arm for Volvo. Think i'm going with Caffyns in Eastbourne seemed like a nice man and happy to do a deal also said he would put it in as a stock order and a bit of discount. Then the rest with PFV
One thing I noticed on PFV was a boost gauge for £25ish yet a AEM boost gauge is £125. Is the AEM one better?
Post 698328 by T5RatherAmusin on 2014-03-26 19:12:08
