Well been runing her about, and im loving her, unfortunately the Valve stem seals are leaking so this will be address very soon, Until then ive decide to prep the engine bay. Started out like this Started cleaning with wd40, then waited for it to despearse, then wiped it over, and aplied a polish. Then took the polish off and refitted the air box and ecu box after id gave them a clean. Sorry about the poor quality, camera phone and bad light but you get the idea, Going to crack on with scuttle and the rocker cover tomorrow :)

One thing thats been buggin me about "Roundy" is her Front bumper top. Some numpty in the past had painted it badly, and this was peeling off! why oh why peeps paint there top bumper top's with cheap spray is beyond me. Anyway i had a Spare Bumper top, so set about changing it over onto the R Jacked her up Removed the undertray which was partially hanging off as one on the side mounts was splitting, x2 10mm held this tray on. Then took the Surrounds off from under the headlights. Set about removing the various t25 torx screws which retain the bumper top to the alloy crash bar beneath. Whilst the bumper was off i cleaned behind the bumper, and the crash bar /headlights, there painted trim and intercooler, also polished the bottom of the wings which the bumper mounts to via to 10mm bolts with captive nuts. Then i pushed the tab clips down which fit the bumper to to the R Bumper to remove the top. Then re fitted the new bumper top aplied plenty of Old engine oil to bring it back to a nice fresh Bumper look. Im soo pleased she looks so much better and the Engine bay is also getting there too. Anyway heres some pic's, Poor quality as usuall lol Now to finish cleaning the bay at the wkend

Well my luck continues with Volvo's, looky what we have here! for any numpty who wants to, this is why you dont re-use head bolts! This is what happened to one of my Headbolts coming out, The machine shop Guy is coming round tomorrow fingers crossed he can remove the rest of the bolt. If not there will be same very nice Grey Panels up for grabs.

headbolts are easy to remove. it should be easy to drill out. this is the main reason why i refuse to use stretch bolts and i always buy 12.9 bolts. works out cheaper to
You must have give so stick to snap a m12 bolt. Are they secondhand bolts ?
no idea mate, :( who knows with these car's she's done 170k full history and no bills to say its bin off before.

Post 701591 by oblark on 2014-04-07 13:52:50

On the snapped off bolt. I`d spray either WD40 or plusgas down the hole :)

Post 701592 by graemewelch on 2014-04-07 13:53:57
I`d rather drill out a stretch bolt than a 12.9 bolt any day of the week :)
same here but the chances of head lift and snapped bolts are greatly reduced by using a high tensile bolt.

Post 701593 by graemewelch on 2014-04-07 13:57:03

see if you can get a lend of a mag drill. least then you know youll be drilling straight. chances are once you get to a 5mm bit youll be able to pick the old threads out with a tap. in the past ive welded another bolt to wear it snapped. but it all depends how much is sticking out. needs to be at least 3mm

Interesting replys peeps, im not doing the work myself, A engineering company is coming out tomorrow to remove it, So we will see what happens, i dont know how much if any Bolt is sticking out, by the looks of the length id say it pritty flush. Post 703082 by merc85 on 2014-04-13 19:37:18

Well not much been going on tbh, The engineering bloke From Robertson Colchester come out and done a blinding job getting the snapped headbolt out, no thread was damaged and he said it had been broke for a while. So with the head off and at the machine shop having the valves cleaned and reground in along with the new valve stems being fitted i made a start on cleaning the engine bay. AttachmentAttachment Also cleaned up the rocker cover which had been siliconed to hell and am certainly glad we removed it as some of the oil ways were indeed close to being clogged up. This got a Good clean and paint. Next step was to clean up and paint the inlet to, Just waiting now for a couple of bits n pieces to turn up before the head being refitted along with a new waterpump and Timing belt kit hopefully next week :) Will keep you peeps all informed

This is where she's currently at, Few more things to sort ie Header tank, some sort of exhaust as the tail piece is rubbish, new tailgate struts as in the cold weather the tailgate can fall on your head lol, and adjustment of the pnp switch as the reverse lights dont work. Oh and a splitter would be good too. Apart from that all good. You've got it looking great, do you have much else planned??
Other than the stuff mention earlier, not really atm, money is tight lol she's mechanically spot on, body is really really nice, Would like to get the front Bumper painted to tidy up the little stone chips, and perhaps get the front and rear bumpers colour coded, but keep the side moulding Original. Performance wise, may fit a walbro pump as the volvo one must be getting tired now at 170k. probably just keep the rest stock. Dont even really know has she goes as im still driving her easy after the head refurb :) but she's certainly torquie and quiet.

Stainless 4" trim Rolled outer, which will do for the time being. ;) Here's the bay Here's the Clio blade 1998-2005 in case you peeps didnt know And the Drivers seat Bolster, it wasnt damaged but the colour had been rubbed off so AndysR dye'd it back for me, exact colour match too ;) Next on the list is to get my Dent man to sort very very minor car part indentations out on the n/s doors, dont really notice them but i do lol.

Love this car, credit to it's owner and the effort that's been put into it. Seat was the least I could do ;)

Thanks Graham, the standard of cars on here just seem to be getting higher and higher, Martybelfasts post saw me spend the next hour with carpet shampoo doing my driver's floor matt, came out well but his hoover certainly looks a good investment. ;)

Small update, searched everywhere for a new one didnt wanna adjustable one and faff about with colour coded springs, £175 from volvo then managed to source this. Updates this evening after fitment and a drive think the R is going to like it ;) lol couldnt wait so went home and got the car, Fitted it at work and went for a quick spin :) looks like the actuator was weak, now she boosts off the end of the gauge and stays there all the way round till she shifts Happy Days :) Oh its a 14.7 psi Actuator too.

Hello, Where did you find this wastegate, please? I didn't know that Volvo was providing it separately. Is it a 300/70 19T one, please? Mine is the genuine 16T one, but I changed for an angled housing and needed to lenghten it while I installed the housing and did WG preload adjustment.

It's amazing what you find on the net I'm the current owner! Bought her earlier last year. It's great to see how well it was looked after back then!

Holy Thread Revival :D Merc was asking about what happened to it after he sold it http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?54877-Blacky-on-a-Full-detail&p=820852&highlight=#post820852

I think that's a different 850 he'd owned (I've just spent an hour or so going through his threads!) This one has changed a bit since he sold it. It's now got a manual gearbox and sat on air suspension! Although this may change at some point as the handling definitely suffers for it. Only reason I came across it on here is because I'm trying to find new pads for the ap racing calipers and the thread appeared! So if anyone can help that'd be great!

Thanks for that I've now emailed a supplier near me with some dimensions of the current pads. Hopefully they'll tell me what I need. Cheers

Most changes were done by previous owner so I shan't take the credit! I've only changed the debadged egg crate it came with for a blacked standard grill, V70 tail lights and roof bars which were needed for a "tenting" road trip around Scotland last year. Although I kinda like the look so have left them on! It's currently at the garage getting a long list of niggles sorted out
