After owning a couple of 855 T5's, a C70 T5 and a p1 V70 tdi I've eventually bought a p2 V70 T5 :) Image A terrible picture but she's a bog standard car with plenty of miles, some history and a nice old thing. A few foibles........lumpy cold start has given way to lumpier cold start and non-existent idle when warm/hot. I unplugged the MAF and it ran fine so I'm hoping £145 of Bosch will sort that out (No codes on the dash yet). I drove it 20 odd miles home (no boost or real throttle inputs) and it was smooth and refined. Also, the brake pedal is making a weird kind of hissing noise when there is no pressure on it. It becomes silent when you touch the brake, and the brake force itself is fine. Any ideas???? Last weird oddity is a water slushing noise when turning left or right at slow speed that seems to be coming from the engine bulkhead. There doesn't seem to be any obvious damp in the car such as water ingress but I haven't had the parpets up yet. The interior is mint, the exterior is very good apart from lacquer peel along the leading edge of the OSR door and a couple of small scuffs towards the back. It really is a lovely place to be, but then you guys know all about that! Plans are simply to give it a good service, replace the MAF asap and then just upgrade and improve bits as and when they fall off or fail. Any ideas about the above would be useful as the knowledge with garages seems to be very varied and I'm keen to avoid big bills with this one if I can :D Cheers

Just read that the hissing from the brake pedal is likely to be the brake booster........is that the same as a servo?

Brake booster is the servo. The water slushing noise could be blocked scuttle drain tubes?

Nice choice there, plenty of potential for upgrades to be had at good prices these days too.

Thanks guys. I haven't had a look at the scuttle yet so can I presume that the drains are easy to access and clear? This one was a price that made me think it was too good to pass up, and as it came from a dealer with MOT & tax I decided to have a punt. It will be getting a new Bosch MAF and vida scan/reset by Thursday, and a very detailed detail within the next week or so (paint detox, clay, multiple stage machine polish, sealant etc etc) It's good to be back in a T5, and with boost it will be even better :D

MAF bought (£158 for a proper Bosch one) and fitted (£40 including scan and codes cleared) and I have boost again! :D Also got hold of the previous owner who's verbally confirmed lots of gaps in the history and promised to post me out the receipts that he has in his possession. So far, so very good. I've added a few pics to the detailing thread after a morning's clean and she hasn't come up too bad at all (in my opinion).
