Hi guys,
I am looking at buying Shaun's v70r in the for sale section. Only snag is I am still at work in the French alps till end of May. So I would like to offer money plus food tokens for a member to view the car for me in Cheltenham. Relay any problems and highlight any issues. This way I can then pay Shaun and organise collection of it.
Is anyone nearish Cheltenham? I will transfer money for petrol, food etc. please let me know ASAP as to keep me first in line.
Thanks!
Alex

If no one can go and view it do the aa or alike do a car inspection

Tbf its still a risk, and i would certainly feel under pressure if i was viewing it for someone else, Look at what ive just bought for example, ive got to get the Head done as the valve stems are shot, lucky enough its gonna cost me that much being in the trade but could quite easily be a extra £500. it would be hard for someone looking at the car to say wether its spot on or not.
Btw it does look a very very nice car, and well worth the money if its as clean and good as it looks.

you can never tell what can happen to any vehicle, get the AA or RAC on it if you are that worried about the condition,
I helped a forum member about 8 years ago,he bought a C70 for £11k and asked me to go and look over it,looking back on it,sometimes you are better off not offering any help,as then there is no problems for someone just trying to help..

AA won't do the check for multiple reasons. One of which is the car being 15 years or older.
I guess its just tough luck until someone on here local enough wants to help in exchange for some monies!

I wouldn't like to look a car over for some one , for
The car to then maybe
Go wrong , I personally couldn't anyway as I'm not that mechanically minded , but I do feel it puts pressure on the person viewing the car , there is independent garages that will
View for a fee , google it etc

As above, it's a lot of pressure to in effect say a cars ok for someone else.
Also I don't really think there are that many members in the Cheltenham area tbh.

Its not like its a random car though, there are a lot of members who know these cars well and know their common faults!
Im not doing this out of choice. Its what I have to do due to my circumstances. I know these engines very well and its not a problem for me if something needs changing. I need someone to highlight anything obvious, thats it.
If all seems good then its all on me. Nevermind, guess I can always hope.

Cheltenham is about an 1 and 40 minute trip for me.
Let's be fair about this, I think getting someone you trust to look at a car for you and report back with photos/videos as well to back it up isn't a bad thing at all. At the end of the day, you're doing someone a favour and you can only give your opinion and I certainly wouldn't hold it against someone like that if they reported back in good faith because ultimately the risk is always with the buyer, and that applies to any car buying whether you're there or not.

My thoughts exactly James, I will have the money and the time to fix issues should there be any.
My brother went to see a car for me last year and it turned out to have a broken window mechanism and a slow puncture. I didn't hold it against him for not finding those faults as it was fixable and not major.
As above its an issue which I have very few avenues to solve.

Not at all….
Its just a paid favour, not a pressure situation if I buy a car that blows up and blame the guy trying to help me out.

People spend too long worrying about their reputation rather than just jumping on the bandwagon when they have the chance to help someone out. One day, it could be you that needs help. ;)

I am not as well being funny here, but and a big but, there are unscrupulous traders out there selling vehicles as private ones, some vehicles need specialist people to look over them with diagnostic devices that the joe public won't have, there are some really bad people out there that will try it on with anyone,as there is no come back with private adverts..i have heard people putting sawdust in gearboxes and tights in a diff to quieten them down,at the end of the day,i would hate someone on here to get bitten like this,i will help anyone out,i was just pointing out sometimes it can hurt, helping people..

It's always the buyers decision to buy or not buy the car based on the information available to the viewer. Unless the viewer has X-Ray vision and psychic abilities then nothing is certain really is it? But the viewer should make every reasonable check possible and raise any concerns, no matter how slight, with the person they're viewing the car for. An assessment made in good faith is what really matters and if the person knows neither party then that assessment will be impartial as they have no emotional connection to the car or either party.

ive viewed a car befor and left a deposit on behalf on some one befor and i probobly wouldnt do it again or recomend it. no matter how fussy you are and how much you check your always going to miss somthing that the other guy will pick up on after a few days of ownership. every has different expetations of what is mint and whats good. my opinion of good is what most people will say is mint. tomany seller happy to say there car is good or even mint when infact its a grave yard dodger.

Thanks very much James, that was a huge help and sorry for making you do the trip only for me to not go ahead with sale.
Genuine helpful and kind member who I will gladly rely on in the future.
