New 850R

Posts

Post 709560 by evo230 on 2014-05-07 10:08:22

Hi all, So I picked myself up a 850R last week. I have to say this car has been one of the childhood dream cars - (I'm not quite rich enough to own the Lamborghini Countach - the other childhood dream car but this is a start!!). My Dad had a few 850's/V70's and T5's when I was at school and I thought they were awesome. I recently sold my MK2 Focus RS and I'm looking forward to this project. Its a red estate and manual - been a little neglected over the past few years, very little paperwork but I couldn't resist it. Its gone into a local Volvo specialist today for an hours diagnostics - I'm hoping the mechanical list of what needs doing wont be too long and then hopefully I can crack on with the exterior. The red paint has seen better days, the Volans need refurbishing and there's a bad aftermarket mesh grill on the front that needs replacing. Not to mention an aftermarket exhaust which has managed to mute the lovely 5 cylinder burble I love so much. Trying to find a nice looking - non chrome grill is proving a little harder than I thought - maybe I'm not looking in the right places! Anyway - hopefully I'll get some pictures up soon!

Red, manual and a dark interior, perfect combination, Frankie take note how much it went for, maybe you will be more realistic with your asking price for yours now.
tbf frankies had alot of popular mods,
We all know mods don't add a great deal to the value of a car, most people would need proof the work done was done by a reputable mechanic or garage, neither of which is Frankie. So many cars are put back to standard before selling and the performance parts sold on separately, it's the way it is.

Don't get me wrong mate, I know you probably clean your car more than I clean mine (although that's not difficult), but Gav is anal about it, on the one hand I admire his dedication to keeping it spotless, on the other I just think drive the bloody thing man, and sod the dirt. lol

Post 709760 by merc85 on 2014-05-07 21:34:03

I just think peeps are being a little hard on franke's car, His had **** luck tbf, Ive bin looking around ads for 850r's n, frankie based his car's price on a breaking price, which is exactly what i did, and worked down from that weighing up the time and cost it would take to break mine, then accepted a close offer. Frankies price for a low mileage Manual 850r in a nice colour with popular mods wasnt that far off, I think frankie hit the nail on the head wen he kept publising issues he had along the way with the engine build which didnt help his car's view in some others eyes. I sold blacky's engine and my Starting issue was raised in the discussion And had to explain it was the flywheel which was the root of the cause. (which it was) after much spending ££s and changing parts and the help from AndysR. Just believe frankie could do with a break tbh. (and yes) agree perhaps i do post to much wen i detail my car, but its only because im enthusiastic about keeping her in fine fettle. and like to give encouragement and tips to anyone who's interested. But ive tried to ease off.

But ive tried to ease off.
Sorry, I don't think I was being hard on Frankie, but maybe that wasn't aimed at me. All I pointed out was he doesn't have the OCD you do when it comes to the cleanliness of his car (Frankie before you pipe up, if Gavs car had been in the garage for 3 months he'd still be out there every other day cleaning it). I also don't have an issue with you being meticulous about how clean your car is, or the threads you post up, it's aonly a friendly dig, because 1 I work on a building site, so getting my car that clean won't be worth it, and 2 I'd rather spend the hours that you spend cleaning your car driving mine, there is no right or wrong, we each get our enjoyment out of our cars in different ways. Going back to Frankie's car for a minute, yes he needs a break, but he is his own worst enemy, he had a nice rebuilt forged engine, and then saw fit to fit the biggest injectors he could find, and turn the boost up to as high as his MBC would let him. (I'm sorry Frankie, as much as we argue, I love your dedication to going as quick as possible, but your methods aren't thought out) So, his new engine suffered bore wash, then a failed head gasket, and it's gone down hill from there. Yes he's his own worst enemy for 1 doing the work himself ( although I'm not questioning his competence, if it was done at a garage he'd have some comeback) and 2 posting on here exactly what he's done, and what's gone wrong with his car.

Welcome to the forum OP, good to see you on the 850R ownership list, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Don't be frightened when you get a list as these cars usually have accumulated a nice list over the years where minor things get ignored. You can work through them progressively and end up with a fantastic example in no time that will make you proud, then when your proud of it you can argue with the regulars as to how great it is and how much better it is now compared to how it was when you bought it... Or maybe not.. Lol either way once again welcome to the fold it's good to have you onboard. When your happy with the car you should pop along to some of the local and national meets you'll always be welcome :)
