As been away for a while from Volvo I have been looking at two vehicles that I am very impressed with. I have been offered a very good price for my BMW 116i against a 2011 S60T6 and a S60T5 As I only cover 3.5 to 4k per year mpg is not a problem the T6 has every conceivale extra Volvo could fit as it was an ex management car with 36k. The T5 is Dec 2010 has done 6k only so as new. What surprised me was the T5 @ 242 bhp with the T6 @ 300bhp. Any comment about the two vehicles would be appreciated My last Volvo was a V70T5. Things have changed a bit LOL

I believe the T5 you were looking at is a 4-pot (I know - sacrilege aint it!)
I'd go for the T6 and slap a polestar map on it :D

The T5s are still 5 pot, which is the one I'd go for as the T6 are auto only.

Really? there was a stint of calling some 4-pot motors T-5, I thought they'd carried it on.

According to Wikipeadia they have 2L 5 pot engines, but other sources say they're 2.5 5 pot, I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Post 711135 by M-R-P on 2014-05-12 16:21:41
The S40 had a 2.5 Focus ST 5-pot but I was reading the brochures in my local stealers when they did my DIM and there were second gen S60s that came with a 2.0L 4-pot turbo with 243bhp called a T-5. The sales assistant didn't appreciate me grilling him over it and declined to comment weather it was a Ford derived lump.
Post 711136 by T5RatherAmusin on 2014-05-12 16:28:52
it kills me they never did a manual t6!

The T5 is dead - long live the T6
Post 711157 by M-R-P on 2014-05-12 17:06:31
Wash your mouth out Mr wobbly!
...Besides, they'll all be tiny 4-pots with hooj turbos soon any way.

I would love the new t5 or a t6 awd but no manual in a t6 = CRAP

No one notice the polestar badge on the boot ;)
I don't like all the silver trim on that T6 and I've seen sportier alloys on a kia.
Post 711307 by M-R-P on 2014-05-12 23:14:17
T6 mate, it's got semi-manual so you get a bit involved.
Oh poo, I'm advocating autos...

Being new on the latest Volvo scene. I believe it has been remapped to 330 bhp. This T6 has been run by Volvo and only just come onto the open market. It has every conceivable extras available. Up for
£15500.00. The T5 with 6k miles is up for £14000.00. Very good deal on my BMW 116i M Sport all of 121 bhp.
I am leaning towards the T5 @£200 +a bit road tax as against £500 for the T6. Do not like in principal paying that amount to HMG. The T5 is Manual which would be great for a remap. As said before only done 6k miles and would be just like buying a new vehicle SHMBO says it's a 5hit colour but it is growing on me, something different than the blacks greys and silvers. Out of general interest how much would a Polestar remap for a T5 cost.
Post 711339 by Blackdog on 2014-05-13 06:57:16
They don't appear to list one for the T5. So you will need to check it out with a main dealer to see if it can be "officially" mapped. If they do offer a polestar map expect to pay in the region of £850-£900 for it...... Maybe time to look at the aftermarket boys.

I would hate to say it go for a manual D5 and map that. Good to see you back Mac could you live with an end of line V50 or S40 they have a very tuneable 2.5 t5 engine lovely 6 speed box and £265 road tax isn't too bad :-)
Post 711344 by M-R-P on 2014-05-13 08:12:48
Hang the road tax, you only have to pay it once a year - I'd have the big angry T6 :)
Do they still do the 4.4L V8? that had 330bhp standard and sounded naughty ;)
Post 711348 by T5RatherAmusin on 2014-05-13 08:54:01
Tuff choice lol. Gold ones got nicer wheels tho lol :/
Post 711369 by MacXC60T5 on 2014-05-13 13:14:52
I am NOW leaning towards the T6. SWMBO has stated that she is not riding around in a car the same colour as 5hite!!!!. Just put a deposit on the T6 so that looks like the way I am going. 36k miles so in three years it will have done 46k miles so it may be worth possibly £10k if very lucky. As said every conceivable extra has been fitted.

I think that is the only extra I would fit on the T6 would be a nice set of wheels.

19" ixions on Jimka's beautiful C70 T5...

Volvo did sell just a few current S60 and S70 T5s here which did in fact have the Ford Ecoboost 2 litre engine, same as the current Focus ST.
The 'T6' is a Ford Bridgend built engine which is going out of production very shortly and by most accounts the mandatory auto. is pretty unsatisfying.
The problem with all current Volvos is their incorporation of a PINCODE in the ECU that prevents anyone from flashing in after market software with the exception of a dealer who can.....naturally, sell you the humdrum 'polestar' branded stuff. I say humdrum as their current offering for a T6 gives I believe enhanced outputs of 329bhp and 480nm of torque against 360bhp and 520nm from MTE. MTE however do have to open the ECU to initiate a software upgrade........
So disappointed have Volvo been with the take-up of the 'polestar' branded software, despite the obstacle of their PINCODE BANDITRY to others' reasonable entry into the market I understand that Volvo dealers can, of a few days ago, practically give it away......
Regards, Don.

Approximately 2 years ago they did the S80 with the V8 which had the V8 Yamaha engine which was also in the XC90. I had the option to buy but missed out as it went to France. It was a great driving car but never really sold in the UK. To be honest it was like 5hit of a shoval. The one I viewed had 9k miles and been in the dealer for 6months. Never seen one since. Those days have now gone for good.

Spoke to Avia yesterday to tell them that my new car was re-mapped by Polestsr, they were not interested!!!. Premium has gone from Fully Comp on the BMW to fully comp on T6 by £18.00. Benefits of being an OAP boring old fart. Looking forward to Auto Box as getting bored with changing gear. Also just love the kickdown, I assume it has one?

Well !!! Deposit paid. Test drive on Friday. Should go well. Return home with 2011 S60T6 36k miles 1 lady owner, every conceivable extra including a Polestar Remap, which I believe takes it to 330 bhp. 3 years Volvo warranty, New tyres, discs and pads all round. Puts me back into the Volvo fold, this will be my seventh Volvo.

Brilliant, to have all those extras is amazing also and those seats should be the expensive leather, looks really nice. I would need to change a few things on the outside, the T6 is volvos only answer to a modern day R, it shouldn't look like every other S60, but that's my taste.
