If and when they find a material that doesn't wear and can take to heat/pressure then it would be a good replacement for the standard interal combustion engine.

Electric tech is also somewhat reliant on fossil fueling.

My chainsaw sounds better than that and it won't blow itself to bits after prolonged 10+k rpm sessions. Say what you like, there's no beating a big V8 with stainless pipes... even the new RX-8's are known to have issues, regularly between 20k-60k, thats not what i'd call a "perfected" engine
My mates old one...
He never serviced it in the 3 years he had it and although it was a little twitchy at times, never really gave him any trouble.
He sold it and bought an audi A3 3.2 quattro :slap: 252bhp, 320Nm, 1800Kg. Numpty.
