Hi again guys, I bought a 2000 plate (w) today for a grand today, the piston on the shock has popped thru the top mount and is banging on the bonnet, I'd only done 15 miles so I'm thinking it was already like this, it's worth fixing tho the car has 11 months mot and looks great and at only 150000 it's got plenty left and excellent nick, black estate T5 too :) can one of you volvo wise gentleman put me straight about the job in hand, I've checked eBay and they seem around 80£ an get someone to fit it unless anyone advises different, or is it better goin kwik fit or maconnachies to look at repairing this one? Thanks in advance guys cheers I'll put pics up soon gettin the windows done at weekend B-)

It's not the shock that's failed, it's the top spring seat. 30 quid from your local factor and a couple of hours elbow grease.

Where abouts are you?It sounds like the top mount is at fault not the shock absorber

As Martin said, it's the top mount, and quite an easy job if you're handy with spanners.
EDIT, and Kingsford.

I'll take a picture in the morning when I open the bonnet the spring top rises about 8 inches ( not that know what 8 inches looks like) is there also a lower mounting, plus I've no top nut?

Happy to be wrong but the rest of the suspension is considerably bigger on a P2, even though it looks similar.
it's a crossover year and the op hasn't confirmed which model it is either.

Ive also looked at a buyer's guide on one of our suppliers list and they list the same against ph1 and ph2 v70 too.
I agree with what you are saying the lower part of the ph2 suspension is alot larger,

what kind of works involved changing it or will the tyre an exhaust place change it for a reasonable price?

Whoever does it will have a bit of fun with the stretched spring as the mount no longer holding it compressed.

The whole strut assembly will have to come out, the spring compressed and top bearing plate removed. Then theyll have a fun job getting the nut off the top as it'll no longer be captive in the mount.
