So today I dropped my wife off at work. Pulling onto the works car park I noticed a guy roll out from underneath a van carrying something and run to a car. So I pulled up and asked what was going on only to be met with abuse.
Anyway I drove up to the works entrance and told the van driver that someone was messing around under the van. He went to look and the car was racing off up the road.
I thought nothing more of it and drove off up the road eventually passing a petrol station where the car was refuelling. They must have noticed me as they gave chase, I had to turn around to try and escape them but eventually they caught up and passed me with one of the guys hanging out the window with a iron bar, fortunately he just caught the front wing a bit and they raced off. I called the police and after 30 mins they turned up.
The officers asked some questions and then went on to tell me that it was a bit silly challenging them with my daughter in the car. They then tried to say that the damage to the wing was old, my number plate was illegal and that I would have to change my tyre as I damaged the wall on the kerb when I hastily turned around to escape. I was gobsmacked! Last thing I needed was a lecture on the state of my car.
Sorry, needed to vent. Rant over :/

Many years ago we had a group of young lads going round keying cars, one night we just happened to be still in the front room when we heard a racket outside. Looked out & it was these lads having a go at my bro's 309. We ran out after them but my old man had the sense to get his car keys & drive. While we were out my mum phoned the police, when she told them the situation they were more worried about my old man & his reg than anything else

Sounds about right Dave, they are only interested in crime or illegal activity happening in front of them as it makes them look good.
I had the same a couple of years back, now if they ask me anything i see nothing or heard nothing.

Wow glad you both OK fella. I think I probably would have acted in just about the same way, well done. If everyone just ignored people obviously doing something criminal then the police's job would become near impossible...maybe they forgot this :)

I think a nice email to your local police and crime commissioner and see what you got to say on it,I'm sure you will get a nice reply.
Last time I sent a nice long email to him ,next evening the local officer came knocking to look into my issue, and came back a week later so see if the problem had gone.

Well, you know what. Maybe if people didn't break the law while driving then maybe, just maybe, they wouldn't have to give fines and could then carry on catching prolific criminals, murderers and rapists etc. As it is, there are not enough coppers out there to tackle the amount of crimes reported. Through no fault of their own. Plus, when a call comes into a control room its given a specific priority in order of severity.
I remember a mate of mine telling me how him and his colleagues spent a week or so sifting through a swimming pool sized landfill of all sorts of rubbish we throw out, in searing heat, in overalls and mask looking for clothing. I can't begin to imagine what that would smell like. don't know about you but I doff my metaphorical hat to folk who would do that.
So, whenever you need help from them, you could always not call.

I bet more ppl share my opinion than yours. There are more drug dealers, thieves, rapists etc out there to catch than motorists to be fined.I`ve spoken to an old detective who said the training and priorities on police work changed from his days by miles.I think he knows more than you and me having spent all his life as a copper.
Post 714126 by Doingitsideways on 2014-05-24 14:23:05
Sorry, but it does seem kinda typical to me.
Let me share my recent experience:
As anyone who knows me on VOC will know, I changed the engine in my 960 for a dirty diesel.
Being as I don't have a drive and live in a flat with communal parking, i had to do the work at my Dad's. An end terraced house, also with no drive, but that's where all my tools live anyway and there is a space for two cars as there are no houses one way.
I was doing the swap over a couple of weekends, first weekend saw me strip the engine & box out and dropped my new engine in place.
During the course of the week, some pikey scum called around and helped themselves to my old engine and gearbox, which I had a buyer for, along with all my radiators, intercooler, props, cats, everything else i needed to finish the swap. All from my Dad's locked back yard, obviously done using a Transit with a Hiab from the alley down the side.
So, I called the police when I found out and they sent two local Bobbies around the next day.
When they came I told them what had happened and what had been taken, to which they didn't even bother writing anything down.
They then had a look around my car outside and were more concerned with the lack of tread on my front tyres and how long it would be on axle stands on the road.
My response was along the lines of "Well, that depends on how long it takes you to find all my f###ing parts so i can get it finished.
I was fed a load of bulls##t about leaving a car clearly disabled at the roadside, so i told them to f##k off.
Next up:
I was very kindly given a 460 Turbo by a VOC member, one of only three left in the country, according to Howmanyleft anyway.
A few weeks later it was nicked and rallied around the local park while being chased by the park wardens, eventually ending up face down in a bush after literally being airborne. It was a mess.
It had to be recovered, so GMP called in their recovery contractors who took it back to their compound.
The car was insured, but i explained to all involved that I didn't really want to involve them as the car itself had very little monetary value and my premiums would rocket afterward.
Being a weekend, I was told that it would be fingerprinted on Monday, maybe Tuesday at the latest.
I would also have to pay for the recovery and daily storage of the car until it could be released for me to do what i want with.
After persistent phone calls to GMP, at least twice a day, I was eventually told after over a week that the car had been printed and nothing was found, so the car could now be released.
So, I ended up having to pay: £250 recovery, £25 per day storage and the cheeky f###ers even charged me £85 to dispose of the car!
The best bit though, when i was removing any personal bits left in the car, i noticed a complete lack of print dust, so I asked if anyone had been. The yard said no.
So I was lied to by a copper, as they couldn't even be arsed to print the car and just wanted me to go away!!
Anyway, I eventually got the diesel swap done on the 960, and Jamesy kindly donated his 460 Turbo to the cause, so all's well that ends well I suppose :)
Oh, I made complaints, but surprise sirprise nothing ever came from them.
Speaking of James, don't get me started on how he was nicked for breaking into his own house because he answered the door with a crowbar in his hand!!
Rant over.
Steve ;)

It is very easy to blame the police for not solving 'real' crimes when they seem to punish the average driver at every given opportunity.
The problem you have is, in order to prosecute someone you need absolute concrete evidence. In the case of prosecuting drivers, that is a fairly easy base to cover. Photographic proof, caught by a patrol car, uninsured, untaxed, etc etc, it's all very easy to prove bang to rights.
Does everyone break the law in their car at some stage? Of course they do, it's very easy to lose concentration for a few seconds and creep up to 35mph in a 30mph zone. 'Most' people on the road are good people and law abiding citizens. I personally think that far too many resources, money and man power are thrown at catching the driver, just because they are an easy target. If there were less police patroling the motorways, and less hand held camera's in various random locations we would all start driving like maniacs everywhere?? Of course not.
As opposed to breaking the law whilst driving; any 'real' crimes, break ins, assaults, theft, etc etc are very hard to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt. Unless a Poilce officer litteraly catches someone in the act, 99% of the time the wrong doer is going to get away with it. Unfortunately that leaves many Police Officers with what seems like a 'don't give a ££££' attitude, when the truth is, they know that even if you knew 100% for a fact who did the wrong doing, they still couldn't do anything about it unless there is concrete evidence. So whilst you want them to try their hardest to persue the ££££ that has stolen your ££££, it's futile, and they know it.
It's frustrating for you, and even more so it's frustrating for the Police. I have a couple of mates who are coppers, and my old man is a Police volunteer. Do you have any idea how much paperwork is involved for a tiny, minor crime that has been committed? It's nuts, 20 minutes 'real' police work requires another 2 hours in paperwork. It's the system that is the problem not the bobbies who are absolutely overrun, undermanned and unfortunately powerless in so many cases.

"Is that your crow bar, sir....?"
Since we're on police stories now....I also got arrested for threats to kill (not true) as I stepped off the plane in Newcastle airport. Just cleared passport control and "are you James?".....straight in the back on the van and an hour down to Middlesbrough for a pot noodle and a sleep in the cells. Saved on a taxi anyway. The police were very nice throughout, laughable amount of paperwork

There are 30 million odd drivers out there in a population of around 63 million odd in the country. So about 50%. By that account you are suggesting that over 50% of the population of the UK are drug dealers, thieves and rapists?
Also, I do not see the correlation between an old copper, training techniques and priorities, in relation to anything I have said.
Lastly, more people sharing you opinion doesn't always make the majority right. You know that, yeh?

Disgraceful isn't it, when honest citizens do a good deed and it backfires on them. All I'll say is if we work within the law we all have right to enforce the law but it is at our own risk.
The Police won't take action unless you have evidence, I always think about taking a camera everywhere I go in order to film anything I come across that's dodgy. But then I work in the security industry and I'm brainwashed in to the law enforcement and evidence gathering mentality. I'm forever watching people in shops and working out whether they are in for shoplifting duties for example.
Sorry to hear this Dave, I hope you get everything sorted and you can always complain to the IPCC.

Me too. I remember going on a date and we decided to get some wine and go back to my place, as we walked into the shop some guy was smashing the BWS aisle up. Ended up us both on the floor and got him restrained until the Police arrived and they took him off. Suffice to say I got two bottles of wine off the store manager and the evening went a lot better than expected with my date ;-)
