It might just be some crud in an ABS sensor, we get the same message every now and again, doesn't last long.
I hope so.i might have been a little rough with the drivers front sensor last week when taking it off.ill try make it down.may insure the c70 for the weekend if I have avaliable funds.it needs a run out

Weather doesn't look good, has anyone seen an optimistic forecast?
Take more than rain to put us off
Take more than rain to put us off
But it'll only take rain to stop us running. :(
Have faith lads it's not rained round here on a weekend for a couple of months :)
I looked earlier and it seems from 21.00 on Saturday we might get a bit but then fairly dry.
Well, I'm all sorted, beer bought, Saturday off, Sunday off in Lieu...cant wait! :) Claymore ill bring your bumper plus a load of other Volvo type freebies that the garage needs rid of.

Mano-e-mano!
What time are folks getting there Saturday?
About 9.30, so we've got time for scrutineering before kick off at 10. :D Still undecided which car to bring, C70, or Soarer. C70 will be quicker, Soarer will be easier as auto, though I doubt it'll get into the 14s, it'll sound the part. Anyway, C70 hasd its MOT on Saturday, so if it fails, there won't be a choice.
Are you meaning that time on the sunday as I think others are only racing on sunday
Some of us are not racing at all ;) Just here for the piss up! What time are the happy campers planning on arriving? Has anyone got a BBQ? I'm happy to bring along a selection of grub etc.
I will ask Ellen if I am allowed to come for the BBQ etc but I fancy it will be a pretty long shot.
Some of us are not racing at all ;) Just here for the piss up! What time are the happy campers planning on arriving? Has anyone got a BBQ? I've got the bbq problem sorted, work has big old unit which will double as a fire pit type thing afterwards too. If we don't need it however let me know is its a heavy beast to lift lol.
Don't think I can afford this hard pushed to find at least a oner when off on holiday next week
I am allowed to come so will bring a BBQ & fuel to run it. I am therefore thinking that you lot can provide the food?
thunderstorm predicted at 11am on sunday lol http://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/stratford-upon-avon/cv37-6/hourly-weather-forecast/326244?hour=57
Key will be to get the runs in earlier rather than later.
Key will be to get the runs in earlier rather than later.
I'm not bothered, the R will do the same time wet or dry, probably better in the wet. :D
I'm not bothered, the R will do the same time wet or dry, probably better in the wet. :D
you wont get a run before 11 am, never had when i.ve been there, also that track wont run unless bone dry, and they will take hours to dry it
I'm still watching the weather on this one Saturday night isn't looking to clever but sunday is looking promising up till 4pm, will be there saturday night with wood, fire pit and shelter
you wont get a run before 11 am, never had when i.ve been there, also that track wont run unless bone dry, and they will take hours to dry it
We've run at 10 , and driven back round and run again, last time we went we got 19 runs each.
We've run at 10 , and driven back round and run again, last time we went we got 19 runs each.
not if its wet from the night before
not if its wet from the night before
Let's hope they have driers.
Has anyone got a good condition grille slash they can bring me? Or the whole grille maybe as long as it's cheap! ;)
Do you still need a grill?, if so I've got one in the car.
Do you still need a grill?, if so I've got one in the car.
Yes! If the emblem is in good nick that is as mine looks a bit poor. So I don't need to bring my bbq/griddle/fire pit then?? I shall bring fuel and food if that's the case.
I am allowed to come so will bring a BBQ & fuel to run it. I am therefore thinking that you lot can provide the food?
I'll feed you Dave what you want?, at the moment it's spicy chicken wings and chicken breast with peppers and onion on skewers plus salad

I'm back, 4 hours kip, Jerry as seen the gate message but has not responded yet, will keep you posted folks
Tomorrow's starting to look doubtful for us, took the Soarer for new front tyres this morning, and all bar one of the soft as ££££ tuners nuts that were on the n/s stripped, making for an interesting journey home, and the C70 has just failed its M.O.T on front brakes, and bloody number plates, because the lettering is 3D which is no longer allowed. :wallbash: Going to try and source some wheel nuts for the Soarer this afternoon.

Another gearbox bits the dust.....
I did notice you were having problems with gear changes.
another great day, great weather after the bull££££ bbc weather site, i took the missus car and managed 3 runs of which my best was 15.46, not bad for pretty much standard, although only a 2.5 60ft so low 15's could of been had with a better start, but as jim got all selfish and spread half his gearbox down the track we decided to call it a day, no more fwd racing for me, time to tune the 740
Had a great day catching up with some good friends and we totally enjoyed the racing, here's some pic's.....
was the soarer a diesel?
4.0 v8 i think
was the soarer a diesel?
I could ask the same question of your V70R, nearly a second behind my hairdressers car.:P The problems with the Soarer, are it's auto, it's not that powerful (256 BHP new), and it's bloody heavy. I knew it wouldn't be that quick, but thought it was better to take it than sit it out.
4.0 v8 i think
Yep, 4L V8 32 valve, but it's still a late 80s/ early 90's engine, so not that advanced.
It sounded good though
Gonna av to get my Cdi on the strip lol, Drag racing tractor style pmsl
Gonna av to get my Cdi on the strip lol, Drag racing tractor style pmsl
Haha, yeah we could have a competition to see who gets the slowest time. ;)
It sounded good though
It certainly did mate, turned plenty of heads, were you there?

I'll have to bring my diesel 960 for the shootout. 2.4l straight-6 VW lump, mechanically injected, old skool diesel, with a Garrett T3 hanging off the side. 122 rampaging german horses at 7psi when new, boost upped to 18psi, running on chip fat, so probably about 125 now! Lol I want that crown!! ;)

Haha, yeah we used to get a few raised eyebrows when we left the baby seat in the R on the strip, even took around Castle Combe with the seat, and one of Charlie's cuddly toys strapped in. :D
i could of put my forge unos on, but it was just a bit of fun today, i didnt want to break the missus' car lol, i reckon my c6 would have given the soarer a good run today

Depends what you call a good time. If I can get a 14.55 with a 16t and a bleed valve, I'll be hoping for low 14s with 18t japanifold Ferrita dp with sports cat, and rip kit.

Just want to say thank you to everyone for a cracking weekend! Good to meet you all and have some proper laughs, especially wobbly "through the hoop" Dave lol. I can't wait for the evidence of us ravers to come out.
I have been told there is a video which will be uploaded.
I have been told there is a video which will be uploaded.
I've got a good video myself but I'm waiting to see what gets uploaded first lol
Totally awesome meet and what a fantastic venue this really does need to be attended by more the night before is fantastic and what a food selection we all had from chicken to stake to pork to gammon to burgers to sausages to chicken squires and the best of all a huge fresh trout to finish off. The company was brilliant every one got along shared food drink etc just the way it should be. Awesome weekend thank you
Just got back, what a bloody drive! Ironically bumped into my neighbor on the A14 too! Absolutely epic weekend, thanks for allowing an "outsider" back in! :) I look forward to seeing the carnage that was, certainly drank enough ale and ate enough to feed the masses between us! I shall leave you with this video of Wobbly Dancing and a rather strange conversation in the background about "spit roasting" mother in laws?!?!?! Photos to come...
Think thats twice now i've missed a good night because of supposedly bad weather. Bloody hell james, another gearbox..........you'll be getting a reputation soon ;)

What a fab day, great company as always and the weather wasnt too shabby. Thanks to everyone who came and shared a few laughs, (mainly at jims explosion) some great cars on display as always, i cant wait for the next get together at Retro Rides
Fantastic weekend, amazing weather ( not that the forecast looked too good before we left ), super company that never fails to entertain, good to see some new faces too, great mixure of cars running on the sunday, mk1 escorts putting our volvo times to shame and a very nice mk1 fiesta with rwd scoobie power running low 10's, pic's and 'the Vid' currently uploading, so I will drag in some good ones and the rest will be on flickr for all to browse.
:stupid: I had a great time & whilst the challenge to beat Dean's 13.3 did not fall my way, there was so much more that was great. I especially enjoyed the BBQ food courtesy of Paula & Pete. The homemade chilli jam was lovely, as were the kebabs. Little did I realise what we were expectling later. That trout! Blimey if that was the caught one then I can only imagine the scale of the one that got away. The late night dancing lesson wasn't half bad either - plus the fact that the old skool Ford peeps blamed the FTO group for all the noise. Speaking of which, thanks also to Emlyn for the blue light loan. We will not be out-done or out-flashed by a bunch of jap-crap LOL. I will dig out the pics later. As for the performance. Can't really complain. I did a PB - 13.76 @109.58. Still a way to go get into the 12s & with family responsibilities I guess it will probably stay like this now for the rest of the year.
what width tyres you run on the strip then dave?
Running slicks which I believe are 7.5 inches wide. I didn't get chance to fully prepare them.
you may get a better time down on road tyres tbh. theyr quite skinny too...
you may get a better time down on road tyres tbh. theyr quite skinny too...
we did say
I think the 29 degree ambient and the lack of practice had me. I had relatively poor 2.31 second 60ft times and they certainly didn't help things as it got hotter.

Call me paranoid but I get the feeling that people don't reckon much to my 13.7, like it was a bit poor for the spec?
Call me paranoid but I get the feeling that people don't reckon much to my 13.7, like it was a bit poor for the spec?
From what I have seen at Avon and done at york this year no body is doing very well to be fair, we have all struggled with trying to get the times down. It's going to take a fair few runs before you get the best time you can out of the car, your PB should be enough encouragement to keep going as it proves your moving in the right direction, it's practice you need now, to find that sweet spot in your launch and the times will follow, so chin up mate your getting there, plus Betsy looked good and sounded great.
Call me paranoid but I get the feeling that people don't reckon much to my 13.7, like it was a bit poor for the spec?
With all the time and money you've spent on your car, are you happy with 13.7?
Well i think u done good there dave with all that beer inside you tho ;) 13.7 on the first going well done
Just need to get it off the line better dave. If you can get a 2.2 then you'll be doing 13.4s, its just practice. The car certainly does shift once its going, from where i was it seemed to be accelerating much faster on the 2nd half than any other volvo there.
The car certainly does shift once its going, from where i was it seemed to be accelerating much faster on the 2nd half than any other volvo there.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
With all the time and money you've spent on your car, are you happy with 13.7?
If I felt that was the best it could ever be then probably not. However with the lack of practice & a hangover then I think I can live with it for now. The irony of Pedro thanking you for your post is not lost on me.
The irony of Pedro thanking you for your post is not lost on me.
i could of posted up myself, but it probably wouldn't of been as subtly put as i have now posted, i'm guessing slicks & non-road legal spec are being allowed to mix on the 1/4times thread

From what i've seen, on a roll, its a seriously quick car. I'd of though on a motorway slip road, it would surprise a lot of people. You need a day when its not busy, so you can get a lot runs in. Having to wait 30mins between runs does not help.
i bet if you put the like of jag penta wheels up front on 255s youll get the time your looking for...
i could of posted up myself, but it probably wouldn't of been as subtly put
BTW no ground rules have ever been agreed or discussed, other than having a car to actually do a time in (but that is more implied than agreed).
I got 2.2 on my last run :)
i got a 2.2 on my 14.0 run still only 98mph, get the launch right and get your best time, and stribo you should be getting 1.9 60fts in a 4wd
is that a table just for yourself?
i'm quite happy to simply go with the faster non-legal time, but thought it'd be fairer for everyone to be a level playing field

This is not a serious enough group to introduce regulations so I don't see how it is relevant to opt for road-legal rules, & in any case who can be bothered to enforce, edit or regulate them?
This is not a serious enough group to introduce regulations so I don't see how it is relevant to opt for road-legal rules, & in any case who can be bothered to enforce, edit or regulate them?
As long as it has a Volvo badge on the back, that should do.
But does it have to have a Volvo engine in it and what proportion of the car must remain OEM?
But does it have to have a Volvo engine in it and what proportion of the car must remain OEM?
Think we might be over thinking this one,.......I'll make a suggestion, just turn up and have a laugh who actually cares life's too short :)
But does it have to have a Volvo engine in it and what proportion of the car must remain OEM?
i'd say it has to be a volvo body and it don't matter what engine it has, not that anyone has changed engines for something else
Now you're starting with regulations. ;)
Indeed and given that in the end it doesn't add up to a hill of beans - I think we can remain without rules or classes.

Still no harm in asking. As long shots go - it is pretty far fetched.
too far to fuel that nice sounding noisey V8 ??
It's surprisingly good on fuel , for the size of the engine, only used half a tank of fuel on Sunday, that's a 200 mile round trip plus all the moving about and 5 runs up the strip.
Any videos yet of the races
Any videos yet of the races
soon Mr Smithyness, have got to capture the vid's from Jaynes phone and will pop them up, just sort ing some choice pics from the few...lol ...that I took But in the end who was quickest out of Jame's car and his other car driven by his tame racing driver, some say, she makes the meanest chilli jam, some say in 15.3 seconds, but who was quickest on our test track ??? would you like the video of the New Stigette.... ??????
I think Jim's started something there... Pretty soon she'll be launching quicker than him! Lol :D Think I'm gonna try and persuade Mrs Sideways to have a go, then hopefully she'll be hooked and then modifying would be actively encouraged rather than accompanied by much swearing... Somehow doubt it, but a fella can dream right?? Oh, yeah get the vids up ;)
