What a day......:nut:

Post 717477 by merc85 on 2014-06-07 22:15:06

Wow! thanks for thinking of the car, its bin a long day. Got to Kg's at 9.00am and made a start the car was certainly grinding away worse than ever coming from the inner nearside on its way to colchester. Stripped the top end stuff out of the way, Turbo ducting wiring loom, pnp switch connections etc, Then removed the Ap's (They are so light its unreal) Gunned the 36mm Hub nut off, then Kg separated the ball joint from the hub. In doing this the whole wheel bearing assembly fell apart! Now in to minds, do i fit the replacment box which was £150, Quality unknown along with a new bearing? or do i fit a new bearing build the whole thing back up again and try that bearing in mind if it still did the grinding the whole lot would have to come apart again. Well after much more examination and spining of shafts we built it all back up with a New SNR bearing (oe Volvo btw) and i took it round the block. IT ONLY BLOODY CURED IT! so now ive a Spare auto box i dont need lol (atm) and a very very quiet smooth R!

Glad it's sorted mate, handy the bearing actually fell apart or you may have missed it and changed the box for no reason ! Hopefully see the car tomorrow at North Weald.

Post 717481 by Harvey on 2014-06-07 22:23:40
Sure someone did the same thing a while ago ,so your not the first to buy a box you never needed.:uglyhamme Good news in the end.
Yeah i know ive bin a bit of a numpty but honestly, the Wheel had no play what so ever, and it wasnt rough when spinning it at all. Thank god the bearing fell apart lol otherwise yes a replacment box would have been fitted.
