Has anyone had any issues with an 06 Plate S40 with the steering wobbling. We've had new brakes, Tyres and tracking done howeverit's still shaking. We are thinking of changing the bushes to the poly bushes would this help?

Hi Sophie, yeah, it could well be the wishbone bushes, as the other obvious causes have been addressed.

wishbone bushes or steering rack are the other area to check usually one of the Universal joints on the steering rack, other than that its CV joints and drive shafts but you would have other noticable issues if it was these.

I've always had Wobbly steering, unless my wife was driving.

If it's shaking at a particular speed, isn't it more likely to be a wheel out of balance?

Not all wheel balancers are the same - some are not dynamic & cannot assess the lateral forces - inside to outside of the rim. This is particularly more noticeable on bigger rims.

Out of balance wheel.

id have thought when they did the tyres they should have re-balanced the wheel
id have thought when they did the tyres they should have re-balanced the wheel
I had mine done, 2 miles later the weights flew off (I heard them hit the wheel arch). It's worth getting them re-balanced and use stick on weights as those nasty hammer on ones are crap.

I let them go anywhere near my wheels with a hammer

We had the wheels balanced as well. It got better but it's mainly when you brake more then anything. Does it now and then when we drive along.
We had the wheels balanced as well. It got better but it's mainly when you brake more then anything. Does it now and then when we drive along.
If it happens when you brake you may have a warped brake rota, I know how that feels because mine went. Look at the edge of your rotas, if a disc has overheated the edge stays a terracotta orange colour, if you have one that is like that then that's the duff disc although I'd just replace the pair along with your pads too.

Just to ask when did it start before the discs were changed or after ?. It would be worth asking the garage that fitted the new discs to test the run out of the discs, over 0.1mm you will feel it through the steering when the brakes are applied. You could try fitting the front wheels on the rear then rears to the front and see if thinks changed.

It was before the brakes were done. We didn't get a garage to fit the brakes as my other half works at euro car parts so we got the parts and got his friend to fit them for us. It'sseems to have gone now though.
