Hi all,
New owner of a P2 V70R AWD in flash green with Gobi, traded my V50 for it, and I love it, not planning to many upgrades, although I am looking at changing the exhaust downpipe and cat back, as a previous owner fitted a single oval rear outlet which is a bit boomy on the motorway.
I have splashed out on LED conversion for the whole inside plus side parking, puddles and side turn lights, need to wear sunglasses at night now!
Had P1 V70R AWD a few years back, loved that one too.
And to finish off, the missus drives a C70 convertible T5 manual in silver with black roof.
So that's winter and summer covered. Though we should have shares in Esso :)

You need to ditch Esso in favour of either Shell or Tesco. Why? (I hear you say) Esso's premium fuel is only 97 octane. You should be using 98 RON (minimum) in the R, or if possible 99 RON.
Therefore, fill up at Shell and collect double points on Shell V power + Nitro (99 RON) or Shop at Tesco and then fill up and save up to 18p Per litre of Tesco Momentum (99 RON). :B_thumb:

makes that much difference then?
closest Tesco is 12.57 miles away.
we do have shell, but it isn't easy to get too, but will try from now on.
more serious question; exhausts, I am thinking of either ferrita or TME, prefer TME tips, I not necessarily looking to remap, just gain a bit on output mainly improve on sound as opposed to stock exhaust which is generally engine noise as it is fairly quite. I have also been talking to Eurosport Tuning in USA and their mototec sport system, not sure if it will fit ok being RHD as well as passing our emissions etc. any thoughts?

We've got a Ferrita cat back on our S60R, which makes a lovely noise along with the downpipe with sports cat. But having changed the downpipe on ours, I can tell you, it's not an easy job.

Ferrita systems are only very slightly noisier than stock. They are ok but not the best.
The TME system is very nice and sounds superb!
You should consider having a bespoke custom made system made for your car. They can build it to your spec (within reason) and tune the sound (within reason) to how loud or quiet you want it.
Mine is custom and the quality is second to none! Fully mig and tig welded and the tips look oe, cos that's how I wanted them! Not too loud and certainly not quiet but does not drone on the motorways either. WOT is epic in the noise department. ( god I miss that noise)
Can be a lot cheaper having custom too. All systems will see improved throttle response and more power top end.
Slight improvement on fuel econ too, if your into that and your light footed.

IPD do a lovely 3" oval system too that sounds awesome but it's ££££ing expensive!!!
Post 721133 by CADman on 2014-06-26 23:39:34
just looked it up, sale on, catback is £446, plus postage, not worried about cost, want it to be right. IPD don't carry a downpipe, so would it be a mix then of perhaps ferrite downpipe with ipd catback?
That is why I am interested in the TME, as they do both parts, Kalmar Union can order it in.

See if graeme welch can do you a downpipe, they're brilliant. After that, a good custom system (as Lee says) will see you right. Get them to tune the sound to your taste and it'll be a fair bit cheaper.

I have a TME on my V70R,very happy with it.
Here's a thread I did start on it. There is a video link with some sound.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Plenty to think about now, think it will probably be the TME as it is made for the car, and from what people say it sounds great, fitting is a bit tight being RHD, but then I'm not fitting it, those days are over (clubman 1275 GT with straight cut box and some), LeeT5 hear what you say about purpose made but it so much depends were you go, a lot of money to spend out and not really know what your buying until its finished.

Lee, slept on it and you have persuaded me to consider custom built systems, I have sent out a few enquiries locally, one being to 'Longlife', any thoughts?
Post 721169 by Sharkey R on 2014-06-27 13:39:31
Where are you based Cadman. The company that did Lee's exhaust also customised my Ferrita exhaust with stock looking tailpipes made from scratch. Their workmanship is second to none. I would highly recommend them as they take the time to discuss exactly what you want and they won't finish it until they are totally satisfied with it.
Post 721175 by CADman on 2014-06-27 13:49:22
Taunton, Somerset.
Price from Longlife was; 200 dpi downpipe @ £375; catback @ £449; inclusive of VAT & fitting; taking 2 days to build and fit.
Thing is I'd prefer my Volvo garage to be the only people who touch the car, sad I know, but I want people who understand volvo's and their little ways, which is why I am still considering a TME system which would be fitted by my garage.
Don at Kalmar has confirmed the TME would be same price as Ferrita, which is what I am expecting to pay. It's a tricky one!
Post 721177 by Sharkey R on 2014-06-27 13:55:09
The TME and Ferrita exhausts are high quality. In my opinion off the shelf exhausts are my preferred option but as Lee said if you find the right place they can built high quality custom items. The Ferrita is very subtle until you really give the car some beans. The TME that Harvey has has an awesome tone to it at sounds awesome. I totally get what you mean about not trusting people with your car. Mine only goes to a local Volvo Specialist. Hope whichever you chose is the one that makes you most happy mate.

Thanks Sharkey, swaying back to TME, people who have mentioned TME on the forums generally say how great it sounds, and that is what it is all about, and the tips look right.
Volvo garage when they are fitting the DP as it is a bugger to fit the downpipe being RHD.
Post 721182 by Sharkey R on 2014-06-27 14:11:24
I've yet to fit a DP on mine, I'm still running a Ferrita Cat-Back. Oh and as for the fuels I totally agree with the Shell and Tesco fuels. I personally only use Shell. There is a more noticeable difference when the weathers warm between the fuels. Esso and BP fuels seem to make my car slightly less responsive.

The Taunton workshop does get some very nice motors in I do call in to the unit next door to them and always have a look to see what they have in.
Sure there's a firm near Cullompton that is also part of the longlife but they do make exhausts for Morgan cars I think ?.
Just had a look found it.

What sort of money is the TME down pipe ?, as that's probably the next thing on my list of things to get.
Also how can you not like this video !

Harvey, it was that same video that got me onto TME :)
Don at Kalmar confirmed that he could get the TME for me for the same price as Ferrita, so I'm guessing around £600 for the DP, I think I will call him next week and discuss it with him, so I will let you know.

TME are the dogs ££££££££ in my humble opinion. Expensive though. I'm saving my pocket money for this one...
I run my R on 97 btw, no other choice in my location, trying to find some ethanol :)
ps here is the pricelist for TME, need to add delivery if you source the parts direct from them in Sweden

I take it you are looking at a bit of tuning to take it up to the 700 BHP limit of this exhaust system.
The thing I did find out about the TME down pipe it's a 100 cell cat ,so it's could be a problem come MOT time ?.

Don't think I'll get anywhere near 700....I was talking to Thomas of TME & decided to go for that one as I can probably get away with it out here, probably overkill tbh. Apparenly the Swedish chaps run their Rs on a mixture of V-power & E85 - with a special map for the spark timing they are getting near 400 brake
Just waiting to sell this bloody Subaru!!!! Never ending story of paperwork & loans
I have this one on my S70, which AFAIK is 100 cell. Never had any bother with MOT

Post 726259 by LeeT5 on 2014-07-27 12:23:54
You won't have an issue with 100 cell on mot.
I would advise a new O2 sensors.
