Hi everyone, Picked up/prettymuchstole a 2001 S60 T5 Manual back in........March i think it was. So Far, So good just a bit of a wobbly Maf and a bit of a missfire but that's been it. Done a few things to it since i got it serviced it IPD intake pipe IPD boost pipes IPD HD Coil packs and a few other bits that aren't really springing to mind after a beer or two After a long and varied line of different cars this is my first Volvo. Always fancied a T5 and was actually on the hunt for a 9-3 Aero when i stumbled across this for sale.....at a lot less than i was looking at spending too! there's going to be a few mods along the way so hopefully the knowledgeable bunch on here will be able to point me in the right direction! And i know everyone likes pics so ive got these few lurking about.... Image Image Image Image Image

Theres a few silver pre facelift s60's kicking about round here (but theyre all 2.0T) You'll spot mine, it will be the one with the hysterically flashing main beams and my dish pressed up against the windscreen because ive just spotted a minty coloured R!

Welcome. How many miles on it? I look at mafs as another serviceable part, they tend to start playing up after about 100k.

Post 727379 by Bones on 2014-08-01 21:49:32

Aye me too, Stuck a new genuine one on it when i found out it was failing its got just shy of 137k on it now the MAF went south at about 136K, cant remember what it had when i got it... 125K i think.... so it did pretty well!

Post 727424 by Bones on 2014-08-02 08:24:45

That's on my hit list too!......along with quite a few other mods.....

Post 727426 by volvokid on 2014-08-02 08:40:20

It will be good to see a nice S60 T5 up here for a change, there is a ex plod V70 kicking about with the most ridiculous exhaust, have you seen it? The back box is fitted sideways if I recall ha.

Post 727455 by Bones on 2014-08-02 12:27:56

Lol, it's not in bad nick either tbh, little scuff above the passenger rear light but that's about it. Just needs the wheels refurbing, they'll be going an anthracite colour along with the mirror caps. I think I might have, didn't see the exhaust but I heard it giving it the big-in down by the beach one day. There's another ex police one that a mate used to own aswell. Had quite a bit done to it too, he sold it to some dodger and the next night the police were knocking on my mates door! So don't know where it is now, but think it was quite a well known car on one of the forums!

Welcome I do hope you let your friendly local dealer work on your car . They are ACE.lol

Post 727596 by Bones on 2014-08-02 23:05:39

I don't want my local drug dealer working on my car.....especially not now I have kids!haha Take it you've had dealings with volvo in Tullos then? I rang them one day when the engine light came on to see about getting it plugged in.... When the girl on the phone asked me what car I had and I replied "it's an S60 T5" she asked me if that was a volvo........

They rip you off from every direction! There isn't a good main dealer up here, barnets, used to be ok. I thought Perth was good but that ended extremely badly. I'm thinking Inverness next, but MRG will be where my car is going to end up for its clutch.

I'm not going to lie, I am probably a car dealers worst nightmare at times. I have to be spot on when it comes to my job so why can't they?
I'm not going to lie, I am probably a car dealers worst nightmare at times. I have to be spot on when it comes to my job so why can't they?
cos many people do the bare minimum just to get through the day and get some bobs in their pocket. When they make a mistake, most of the time not much happens. I don't know your exact position but I know the industry you work in - if you make a mistake there is a chance people will get killed, so you check stuff 2, 3, more times

I know what yous are saying, I'm actually an aircraft engineer by trade, I used to deal with everything that happens from the moment the aircrew pull the little handle between they're legs! Th ejection seat, the canopy jettison, the parachute and the survival packs etc. if something doesn't work in that 1.67 seconds after that handle is pulled the chances of surviving the sudden stop at ground level aren't all that great apparently!

Post 727697 by Bones on 2014-08-03 20:11:09

I used to be in the RAF, then I went civvy on SAR choppers down in Prestwick, then went back onto Typhoons out in Saudi and spent a couple of years out there. Then decided I was sick of aircraft and to give oil and gas a try! I've never actually been in I just wanted to find out how much to run a diagnostic on the car and clear any codes, they wanted stupid money if I remember correctly and wanted the car for a day!........so I pulled fuse 6 and 23 and the engine light went out! This was when I was diagnosing the MAF

Post 727724 by volvokid on 2014-08-03 21:29:09

That sounds interesting. Arnold Clark charge £100 or so to read codes, I have a copy of Vida so if you ever need it doing just take a run out past.

Welcome to the forums! Thats one clean t5 ya got there. And on the subject of dealers are some really that bad? Clive brook volvo down the road from me are the easiest dealer ever to get along with. When I rocked up in my 850 t5r I had clive himself taking pics of my car. Then explaining the easiest way for me to get the old parts for it xD

http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?48291-More-dealer-mishaps&highlight=more+dealer+mishaps This is what stratmore volvo had done to my car, they also bodged my dad's S60r and MRG rectified it.

I'm the same, hate putting my car in a garage! In the last 10 years, apart from tyres and MOT's I've had a car in a garage once! When I used to live down in Norwich when I first joined the RAF I'd got myself my first Beemer, a 328i m tec, and stuck it in to the main dealer for a service, and it had one of them trackers that used to text your phone, had a few saying that the ignition had been activated then 2 mins later that it was turned off and now in this location (used to give you a grid location), but then got one saying it was doing 73mph on this road heading northbound, pretty soon after I got 2 messages at the same time saying it was heading south bound on the same road, one doing 80 something, and the next saying 147mph!!!!!! So with that I was jumping into me little crx del sol that I was driving at the time too and went screaming into the dealership going absoloutly off my head! The manager wouldn't let me near the lad who'd been driving it, he even tried telling me that it hadnt even left the car park untill I showed him the messages! Ended up getting the service, 2 new tyres, a valeting pack and a full set of genuine mats, and my next mot was free aswell! Since then I haven't trusted a garage!!!!

The cruise controll doesent work so I've been trying to diagnose wether it's clutch or brake pedal position sensor that's gone, and when you do the little fog light switch trick to bring up stored DTC's then loads say they have DTC's SET. No doubt just stored over the years since it hasn't been near a volvo dealer since it was about 4 years old

Post 727794 by volvokid on 2014-08-04 08:31:25

That's terrible the guys doing that, least you got them with a proper stinger in the end. Yeah honestly the offers there I won't charge :) I may need to try it on my car first, I'm no wiz at it.
