Evening folks, just signed up to the forum as i bought myself a 1996 855 T5 manual. It seems manual estates aren't too common these days. Especially within a few hundred miles of south west Scotland!
Wanted a toy that i could use with the family and for work now and again. Just sold my xr3i as it sat in garage never getting used.
It had a few bits and pieces done to it including a decat and a Rica remap. It's a lot of bang for not a lot of buck! Sure i'll be picking your collective brains soon enough! Lot of stunning motors on here :)
Iphone not letting me upload attachments, usual Apple problems but i'll get some pics up soon.

Cheers for the welcome folks!

I've seen this car a few times on eBay over the last year or so in the northeast. Bit of a bargain.
Hope it turns out to be a good one, your in the right place if not. Lol
Keep us up to date & glad you got your pics sorted.

Welcome mate nice 855 so it ebay last week
Post 730640 by prc on 2014-08-19 22:41:45
Yeah i saw it on the sunday and went for it on the monday. It's got it issues, nothing serious just age related. Judging by history it has been meticulously maintained until a few yrs ago and been used and abused a bit over last few. It's completely rust free and mechanically sound.
Homebrew decat and chopped up boost pipes etc can all be replaced.
There was a guy started slating it at beginning of year when it was for sale. Started threads about how much of a dog it was, think he was being over critical of a sub £1k 187k miles car!
Oh and the wheels are terrible! They need to go asap.
Post 730641 by Biff on 2014-08-19 22:49:26
Agreed mate, rims need dumping ASAP.
Plenty get turned around when modified properly & they make great cars when they are right.
I wouldn't believe everything you read online, a lot of people have keyboard warrior opinions & like to share them. If you feel it's within your skills & patience go for it.
Good luck with the project. ;)

It has things like a halfrauds cone filter and a mbc. I'll literally just take it back to standard and work from there. It is a lot faster than i expected tbh, last one i drove years ago was standard and this is a lot quicker.
Where's the fun in buying a perfect car and just driving it?! :) lol
Post 730643 by Biff on 2014-08-19 23:11:19
That was my philosophy when I bought mine. £2.5k later & I was looking at another massive parts bill it decided to chuck a wobbler & bend a rod.
Change your mbc for a new bcs dude, they don't like 20 odd psi & it doesn't sound nice! Lol
I like to think of my first as an experiment. The next one is the keeper. ;)

Exactly. No matter what the car costs you can run into bother. If you're ever going to complain about spending money on a car you're best just not getting involved. If i end up spending £1k on this over the next few months then so be it, what else would i buy for less than £2k thats as good as a sorted T5 manual estate.
I want rid of the mbc and to replace a lot of hoses that look tired. What i really need is someone with a standard one to pop over for a cuppa and sit them side by side to copy!

can we have a picture of the engine, you might find the cobbled boost pipes are actually better, and I wouldn't be in to much of a hurry to ditch the mbc.
Post 730681 by prc on 2014-08-20 09:42:22
It was an absolute minter when i sold it there. Just never got the chance to use it and if we're being honest they aren't that great to drive! Lol
I'll start a thread in a technical area and see what peoples opinions are on the boost pipes etc. my main reason for ditching the mbc is that it has a rica remap so i don't see the point in the mbc.
I'm in Troon, Ayrshire so anyone localish who wants to pop over for a few hrs some day will be supplied with loooooads of coffee and biscuits!
