The friendly folks over on VolvoTuning.net have asked me to share what looks to be one of the biggest meets of the year, with the opportunity to make it even bigger with members of VPC joining the Meet:
Royal Air Force Museum Cosford - Shropshire TF11 8UP
Sunday 16th November
http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/
There is no admittance fee.....it's free. The only charge is £2.50 per car to park in the car park.
The museum itself is home to a large array of aircraft from all eras of flight, what's more its mostly indoors so regardless of the November weather we'll be nice and dry inside.
Once inside it's admittance all areas, there is a Costa Coffee Shop and Restaurant for those wanting a Sunday Roast dinner and as a premier attraction its very family friendly with lots to keep younger and more fidgety visitors happy....
The big attractions are:
1) The cold war exhibit that has all three Big British V Bombers....if you've not seen these before or up close they are huge aircraft and all the fast interceptor jets like the AVRO Lightning's are here and are all suspended from the roof allowing you to walk under and over them.
2) The older World War 2 aircraft are also present, Spitfires, Hurricanes, US Mustangs and a Lancaster Bomber as well as some German aircraft including the Dornier 17 which was recently pulled up from the bottom of the English Channel and is being restored.
3) Hanger 1 contains the aero engines, everything from the piston driven Merlin to a huge modern day Rolls Royce Trent Jet engine which powers the Airbus A380. Most of these are cut away so if the guys are into their engineering, which being on here on this site we know they are, then this Hanger is a must see.
As for the agenda.....it's currently suggested:
10:30 - 11:00 Arrive at RAF Cosford.
11:15 - 11.30 Social catch up, general banter & piss take - Group photos
11:30 - 14:00 Tour Museum
14:00 - 14:30 Further photo opportunity Cars and Planes
14:30 Leave in convoys
Already looking like a popular meet - we are looking at a dedicated VolvoTuning carpark with a selection of aircraft in the background making for some good photo opportunities.

Think I may be able to make this, as I should be working nights that Sunday. But a 1000 aircraft ??? would need to be a big hanger for that many, there site says over 70, probably a good thing as I would take a week to get around a thousand and see them all properly

If i happen to be down that way ill swing by.
Its been nearly 11 years since i did my trade training at Cosford! Actually changed its name to DCAE Cosford when i was there (Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering) and went Tri-Service but to me it will always be known as RAF Cosford. Passed my driving test when i was there too! :)

We've been in contact with RAF Cosford Museum and they have told us we will be allocated our own specific car park next to Hanger One with a capacity for 60 cars or have the use of the overflow carpark next to the parked Nimrod between Hangers 3 & 4 :B_thumb:
More the Merrier.....spread the word lol

Yeah, it's all MOTed, but is having an exhaust manifold and turbo change at the moment. TBH it's too far to take both cars anyway.
Post 732713 by Wobbly Dave on 2014-09-01 00:42:34
I live just around the corner from Cosford - so whilst it is easy to get to, the car park is somewhat unremarkable, in terms of photo opportunities as all the exhibits save 1 or 2 are inside the massive hangers. Regardless - I will probably pop down.
Post 732736 by stephenevans99 on 2014-09-01 08:30:37
We've been allocated an event organiser now .....which is good, a young lady called Louise Clarke. They have confirmed we've been given exclusive use of the large overflow car park between hangers 2 and 3......nice spot with with the Nimrod and Hercules behind apparently - looking forward to taking some pics.
Post 732818 by Wobbly Dave on 2014-09-01 16:56:55
i stand corrected then, particularly if Louise is doing it.

Just a quick update and some exciting developments for the Cosford Meet.
From VolvoTuning organiser:
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share exciting and important news regarding our up and coming meeting at RAF Cosford on Sunday November 16th.
We've been working hard behind the scenes to team up with a Volvo main dealer and today we're happy to announce that Brindley Volvo from Wolverhampton will attend our meeting with a selection of new Volvo cars from the current model line up.....will there be a new XC90 to play with ?
On the day you'll be able to view, inspect and test drive the models and talk to the Brindley Volvo support team.
The cherry on the top of this particular cake will also see PR agents and photographers from Volvo's European publicity partner "No Bull" attending.
No Bull, are looking to run an article online covering the event and also help with advertising the event across a number of Volvo main dealer and specialist websites.
So come on everyone........lets get as many of our cars along on the day to ensure we give them a proper VolvoTuning.Net photo spectacle and story to report on! spread the word guys ;)
This is going to be an awesome meet.....can't wait.

Well, what a day, apparently 90 plus well presented Volvos and their owners and families in a very well chosen venue.
As well organised as any Volvo event I have previously attended without the aloof and unfriendly behaviour found with some organisers.... errr or so called 'clubs'.
A real credit to www.volvotuning.net in their thorough and discreet organisation.
Don.
