So the story go's I was looking for my second volvo after spending an age & fortune on my first 300,000 mile v70r. With my family increasing it made sense to get another now I knew the score & had a fountain of knowledge amongst the forum & the good friends I've met online. I saw this car advertised on eBay a while back for £2500 & watched it steadily come down in price. When it came on eBay as an auction I had cash waiting but only if it went for the right price. I made contact with the owner & managed to get a brief history off him. The same time I asked on the forum & cheers to chris for pointing me in the right direction as to it's history with IC on voc. the car had been owned by him for 12 years & had undergone a nice few modifications for fast road use. Ian wanted a red v70r but obviously volvo never made one. It has R 302 discs with ferrodo pads, braided hoses, pro sport budget coilovers, ferrita 3" down pipe, race cat & ferrita 2.5"cat back. It also has a polymount top mount & the small matter of an mte remap. The auction ended & I wasn't the winner but I contacted the owner & said any messing give me a call. 3 weeks passed & I heard nothing, I even arranged a viewing with Wayne (judge ninja) to see his t4. At last the owner contacted me & thanks to Morgan (shinsplintz101) viewing the car for me a price was agreed. I had to wait over a week due to work commitments but last Sunday my mum & dad picked me up for the 350 mile round trip. Here are some pics how she sits today at my caravan. With a heavily pregnant wife I'm limited to going far so intend to do a few mods & a "detail". Been a long time since I went mental with the polish & wax. Lol Anyway, here's the pics.... It's a lovely looking motor, seemed real good value on the eBay auction so if you paid anything near that I reckon you've got a bloody good buy :) First thing to do is remove the rear window sticker lol

Seen this car on eBay, always a great looking example :)

I'm really not liking the grill or headlights, far to modified looking & I'm dreading the day I get tugged for the windows. The headlights are coming off this weekend & the fly eyes are going, along with the eBay sticker on the rear window. I plan on fitting a volvo badge on the grill as a temporary measure but mods are very limited until my wife go's back of maternity. I'm still studying the folder of receipts & rolling road printouts, I've really got the right one I feel. No warning lights & go's better than the last one although not as aggressive. 10 mph faster on the local bridge test & on par with a focus rs as I found out last night. :) Best bit, it's not dropped below 30mpg. :) Got my blanking plate to fit & currently carrying out my first mod. I'm in love with this car & it was an absolute bargain. Sorry frankie. :) Pedro Replika is the Swedish spelling. ;)
Pedro Replika is the Swedish spelling. ;)
Don't know if serious... lol I agree, the tinted headlights are ruining the look of the car. Personally I think an eggcrate grill and the crystal lights from a late C70 would be perfect for this car.

Post 734935 by stribo on 2014-09-12 20:18:19

Sits nicely, what do you think of the ride though? If it's like my C70, and your wife is overdue, you can take her out in it to bring on labour.;)

Post 734957 by Biff on 2014-09-12 21:00:20

An egg crate is definitely on the agenda so if you could let me know should a sale fall through Dave that would be great! I had one fitted to the bullion & the difference is night & day. Colin thanks very much for the offer but if I did have the standard grill I'd use it for the badge but not sure I want a standard chrome. Jim I take that as a compliment mate! I know you will never see me in a green one as green cars are unlucky, both mine were an utter pain in the arse plus red is my colour, my teams colour (football) & I've owned more red cars than any other colour (11 out of 28). As for my first mod, here it is... Image Image Steve the ride is a tad bumpy & she's commented but not told me to sort it. It's wound right down but liveable! We will see what happens but I have a road in mind just incase... Saying that whiplash is a bit harsh. Lol

U a red or blue then fella? ;) Thanks for the comments guys, I'm over the moon, I had to put a tyre on this week but bar a cardboard template under the abs ecu to assist a loose connection & now we have no lights. Thanks Steve. ;) Plans are a nice rip with stainless pipe, bumpers spoiler & mirrors painted & a wheel refurb in possibly a darker colour. Ideally I'd like an LPG conversion for when I'm in low & slow mode but honestly it handles the road well. Eventually some decent coilovers will replace the pro sports but I have a list of "wants" to make it mine.:)

Lol I'm not sure on the windows, they do pass a lot of light through but I can have them tinted legally if needs be. We are thin on police around north wales so they tend to leave you alone if you don't rub it in with silly mods & license plates. I've not had a car with tinted windows for 10 years but I feel it suits this car & I actually like them as they're not quite limo.

So not updated this in a while. Mods have been limited & I've just covered my first 2500 miles in her. I've concocted my own induction kit from some samco hose & a ram air filter, changed the drop links for meyle hd & fitted led headlight bulbs, side lights & number plate lights. looks wise I removed the fly eye tint from the headlights & added US spec indicators & genuine volvo headlight protectors. I added the silver bulbs to the indicators Orange glow didn't look right. Still not fitted my blanking plate, don't know if I will tbh. I'm getting a do88 RIP kit off Iancho pretty soon I hope, funds have been tight after having no paternity pay & obviously christmas. Lol I've got an ipd boost gauge in matching blue & a carbonfibreworks pod that's being flocked with a few other bits. Anyway, few pics I took today. Image Image Image

Post 755742 by Hound on 2015-01-12 21:09:29

Very smart Mr Biff. But those US indicators with the orange bits would look much better on a Saffy - for instance, a certain C70 in your locale, LOL. Same goes for the grille! I jest of course. The Replika is looking great.

Lol

Post 755782 by AcidicDavey on 2015-01-12 23:54:03

It really is a lovely car Biff, when it was on eBay I was tempted to bid! As it is at the moment it definitely needs some spacers on the rear, only very small on the front if not none at all. If you do get those wheels you've mentioned they'll look the nuts on a red car, they'll naturally poke out a bit more if these are 7Js ;) Will you be getting some crystal headlights when the time is right? They'd really finish the front end off.

Post 755885 by Biff on 2015-01-13 21:38:42

That's the plan Dave, front bumper & bonnet painted, crystal head lights & a splitter off another car I like.. Oh & rear mudflaps. Lol I think these are 7j but as I said the other wheels have 225 tyres so I'm going for 10mm spacer on the front & 20 on the rear. A few people bidded on it when it was on eBay. Can't help thinking if the ad was written better with more info it would of sold for more. I've just insured it for £2300 agreed value but I won't sell it, i use the golf quite a lot as it gives me 100 miles to £10 worth of diesel. I will take some under bonnet shots when I'm happy with under my bonnet. Lol

Post 770373 by Biff on 2015-04-26 22:17:24

So I've not updated this for a while (being a dad has kind of put the car on the back seat. Good job I found a good one as I've not had to touch it over winter but come spring I had a few common faults. My front calipers were sticking & I had a boost leak. I managed to bag my old orange calipers I rebuilt off the bullion I sold to Jamesy. Along with the oe discs I had done about 800 miles on too. I bought another set of ferrodo ds2500 pads after being recommended them on my original R. They perform excellent for my needs & great for fast road use. My boost leak has baffled me for a while as after a smoke test we thought it was vac tree related. I've changed all the boost hose with a load of oe hose after doubting the samco I had on. I've had a replacement vac tree but still I was only peaking 14psi. Yesterday Claymore put a video on Facebook & it inspired me (plus today's meet) to go & fit my blanking plate as the re-circ was my last possible place to leak. As I went for the awkward bolt you get from underneath I realised there was just a hole. After an hour of searching through my removed bolts off the bullion I found one & the car is back how it should with a nice peak of 18/19psi. It pulls really hard in every gear again now but I had the odd missfire on wot after a stretch of the legs today so think I may have to stick my bargain eBay genuine Volvo plugs in & invest in a dizzy cap & rotor arm. Mods will be on the thin side until 2016 but I do have a few ideas. I have a set of roof rails to go on it when I pop to see del as he has some trims that could be modified to fit the me7 roof rails. I've bought myself a roof box to take the tribe to Weymouth next month for a week so I can attend the Swedish show. :) I hope to get an LPG kit sometime this year & have it calibrated with the map then I will keep this car forever & get it how I want it. I have never loved a car like I love the FakeR. Oh & for the record I've spoken to a lad in Manchester who owns a genuine red R on a T plate. One of 5 he was told. 6 with my wannabe. ;)

G has already come back to me about the bodywork etc., and now I have some thinking to do about how much I should spend on her.

So had a pretty busy week on the car ready for our roadtrip this weekend. Will she have a polish & wax before the Swedish show on Sunday? I don't know but she needs it! Tuesday I popped to see Del as he wanted the roof trims off my v70 for his 855 touring car rep. I've managed to get a set of "chunky" me7 roof bars. Originally I was going to chop up my trim to fit the rails but it seemed a waste as it's rare to see an estate without them. For now I've got some old style rails & 855 trim but I'm aiming to source the me7 trim at some point. I managed to get some genuine roof bars off a fellow enthusiast & the roof box off hound. Think the family has enough storage space now.... Image Anyway, I've given her a fresh oil change & checked my plugs, a nice light biscuit colour so no signs of lean or rich burn. :) I think me giving it a run to work & back a couple of times a week is doing her good, no more Mayo in my dipstick & all good with the glove test. I may have a set of coilovers forsale soon as they are killing my favourite roads. :(
Mind, I am a bit sick of people asking if my car is an R or T5, even had an R owner ask me once if it was an R lol :P
many many years ago i entered BT (burgundy 854 T-5) into a VOC show'n'shine at one of there meets, at the time she was done as a T-5R replica & the judges said they didn't know they ever made them in that colour. They went a bit red when i said they didn't lol
