I hope it's not too bad for you Dave.
Well my days over snapped a.driveshaft
FFS Jim! At least it's not a gearbox again. Did you have to get towed by the astra again? Lol
bloody hell, these t5's aint no good for this stuff
I think you need new drive shafts the ones in Jim's car are proberly 15 years old .it always finds the weak spot .but 13.9 is good though .and lower times to come .them tyres are really sticky too with no give so the stress on them shafts must be emence
Oh dear looks like Dean is still King of the Volvo mountain then...! Sorry to hear of the woes chaps, not a good year for luck :(
With your luck Jim you'll probably break the karts as well !
I think you need new drive shafts the ones in Jim's car are proberly 15 years old .it always finds the weak spot .but 13.9 is good though .and lower times to come .them tyres are really sticky too with no give so the stress on them shafts must be emence
Where abouts has it broken on the drive shaft

Oh dear bad news for you both so is it the drive shaft or the cv joint then which has failed
Yep broken at the hub end, did get a 2.1 60 foot on that run as well
2.1? What did you get on the 13.9 run 60ft?
2.1? What did you get on the 13.9 run 60ft?
I think it was 2.3
2.1? What did you get on the 13.9 run 60ft?
2.27

Left wobbly with the aa at a pub in stratford looking like head gasket failure hes getting towed to hlm last time i saw him
Bloody hell lads. Nice to see you get a good time there Jim, shame about the catastrophic failure. Poor old wobbles too. He doesn't seem to catch a break.
Could of been mid 13's on that last run then, shame
Bloody hell, not much luck lately, I hope the high compression on Wobblys engine hasn't come back and bit him on the arse, and i seem to remember suggesting running Evans coolant.

Bad new guys hopefully Wobbly's woes aren't too serious, although it sounds like they could be. :(
Bloody hell, not much luck lately, I hope the high compression on Wobblys engine hasn't come back and bit him on the arse, and i seem to remember suggesting running Evans coolant.
If you remember Col, Dave had his compression lowered, as you questioned him about why he'd done it.

all that torque has to go somewhere, unfortunately it went and highlighted the next week point, back to the drawing board for you and Mr Wobble's, feel so sorry for you both, on the bright side there are 2 more public days a Avon this year
Cheers mate, im in the IoM for the mid october one but hopefully be at the end October if the weathers ok
I may have to look at reworking my calender, as I've only run one event this year, I really need to stick down a competitive time this year and the lower drive box hasn't been properly tested yet, so if I can get the diff fitted and a couple of other bits and bobs, I may make the final run of the year and would be a great weekend job, as they have there fireworks and other stuff on the saturday night, always wanted to do that weekend. I would mean that I'd have to stiff my jaunt to the Softies meet to the end of November though
Do u have good grip on this run jim!
Do u have good grip on this run jim!
He's got that much grip now, that his driveshafts can't take it......oops ;)
He's got that much grip now, that his driveshafts can't take it......oops ;)
maybe he as but still not high terminal speed ?
Do u have good grip on this run jim!

maybe he as but still not high terminal speed ?
The 1st run I took it a.bit easy, had only just adjusted the -34 and was trying new dump valve springs, the mbc was only on 3 clicks, was happy with the run so upped the boost another 3 clicks to see how it went, was going to go to 12 clicks as me a.smithy had tested it that high the weekend before but the.rest is history as they say

Good news is that the Fed RSR tyres worked really well and I manage (on both my runs) a consistent 2.20 60ft - running 13.920 & 13.877 (104.1 & 104.2 mph respectively). At the Top end of the run I knew that the 3rd & 4th gear full 1.7 bar boost was misbehaving, with the power coming & going, but I believe that was down to the reconditioned ETM/calibration issues, which I still need to resolve. Could also be down to the HG starting to go. HG has blown - I will describe more detail on my project thread.
ps If Jimbo wants a short half -shaft then I have a nearly new one in the shed - still has the Volvo label on it.
ps If Jimbo wants a short half -shaft then I have a nearly new one in the shed - still has the Volvo label on it.
Yes please wobbly thanks very much mate I'll buy ya breakfast :)
less you didn't chuck a gearbox worth of oil down their strip this time.....;)
Haha yep, even the lads at the end of the strip said they couldn't see any oil so half guessed it was the shaft, well i was praying it was the shaft lol, They make very different noises when letting go :)
