D5 Dyno Chart - Are you sitting down?

OK, for all you people who think the D5 is still slow, have a look at this dyno chart from my car. It's power and torque at the wheels :nutkick: Image Adam. ps. the little dip is just the ECU reigning the boost in. I will map that out soon.

Nice work adam - very impressive indeed ! That slightly PISSES ON MY CHIPS :jaw: [power at the crank is around 230hp and 350+lb/ft]

Post 58028 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 14:08:37

Not really! Your car is much lighter, hence why the performance is similar for both. To 60 mph, yours is still 0.5 secs faster. Adam.

Post 58030 by Murphy on 2005-11-18 14:10:24

I recon top end yours will really start reeling. Its a trait of the Volvo's ! ;)

What's the cost on mpg likely to be?

Post 58038 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 14:35:52

Cost on mpg??? That's my car - the one that does 42 mpg when driven flat out like a nutter, and 65 mpg when driven like my gran says her prayers. Adam.

Adam, can you post a graph for a standard V70 P1 T5 that has the same scale as the D5 graph so we can compare?
Adam, can you post a graph for a standard V70 P1 T5 that has the same scale as the D5 graph so we can compare?
And a RICA'd one? Please.

Thats very impresive, think il get a D5 next, one day maybe. So what do those figure amount to at the wheels im guesing 230bhp and 500NM?
Nice work adam - very impressive indeed ! That slightly PISSES ON MY CHIPS :jaw: [power at the crank is around 230hp and 350+lb/ft]
Furby vs D5 at the next 1/4 mile meet then ;) I am still going to carry on believing that the D5 is SLOW and blissfully ignore all the proof you provide Adam :haha: The law says to have a quick car you have to give up fuel economy, you cant have your cake and eat it LOL x

Post 58051 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 15:03:05

It's more like 215 bhp at engine. But torque is exactly 350 lb.ft at wheels. Adam.
Erm, I think that's measured at the wheels Lance ;) - think you mean at the crank!?!?!?!? :slap:
:slap: doh, thats the one fly wheel or crank. 215bhp and 350lbft is mighty usefull

Very nice indeed. Saw a 12kmile £16k S60 D5 at the dealers today hmmm.... Nah I'm with Mrs Mopp petrol is best no matter what :P

Post 58085 by Redbrick on 2005-11-18 16:52:20

Adam Have you tried using Bio Diesel in your S60? I know my diesel engine is a 1.5 NA but it is soo much smoother and more responsive running the stuff. Its feels like the difference between 95 and 98 petrol. Unless my 'butt dyno' is out of calibration. I wonder if that would give even better results? My Boss uses it in his D5 XC90.

Post 58088 by S60D5 on 2005-11-18 17:08:25

I like that graph. Adam, is that custom or a standard avaliable map? Any other work on teh D5 apart from the map?

Post 58089 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 17:10:58

I suppose I ought to try it and do it scientifically, ie test it on the dyno and check fuel economy too. Adam.
I like that graph. Adam, is that custom or a standard avaliable map? Any other work on teh D5 apart from the map?
That is the Sports map, and nothing else. Even the air filter is still standard (on purpose) so people can see what the ECU upgrade does on it's own. The car standard measured approx 140 bhp at the wheels, so as you can see it's gained about 50 bhp! Adam. ps. I will post all the other requested graphs in this thread later next week.

I think I asked this before somewhere but didn't get a response... what is the difference between the standard and sports map (apart from the power/torque figures)? Mainly thinking power delivery/style of driving, fuel economy and cost of purchase?

Post 58094 by weasel on 2005-11-18 17:19:10

bhp and lbs/ft, whilst impressive do not equal time over distance..... speed! it's a diesel and no amount of tinkering will make it fast. how long in minutes does it take to reach these performance figures? :haha:

Post 58096 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 17:23:26

Darren, Next week I will do a dyno run with the normal tune and post it here so you can see. Purchase price is the same. The only thing is that the sports tune smokes slightly at WOT (and smokes a bit more with a dirty air filter :slap: ), whereas the normal tune does not smoke any more than the stock car. Adam.

Post 58103 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 17:40:26

I didn't plot torque when I did this a few months back when standard, so I will do this next week too. Adam.

Post 58155 by volvotuning on 2005-11-18 19:46:22

Interestingly, the most powerful RICA D5 on our dyno to date produced 197 bhp at the wheels!!! On software alone. Adam.

Hay Adam, Are you ready for a rematch at Avon/Santa pod then...? See if you can get you D5 to Beat my T5...?

Post 58192 by gdogg16 on 2005-11-18 21:46:24

holy crap! 474lbft of torque! :jaw:

I think thats NM not Ibft :slap:

Even when you measure in lb.ft, that's 350 lb.ft and still impressive. Incidently, I tested the fuel economy on my dad's V70 D5 auto. His economy improved by 3 mpg after having the RICA sports tune installed over the RICA normal tune. Adam.
It's mad isn't it!!! The economy map research will still be done, but it's on the back burner at the moment. Adam.
As an educated guess, bearing in mind lack of research, what sort of difference would you imagine the Econ map would get over the Volvo standard? Also, if your dads D5 is getting 3mpg more on sports tune rather than rica standard, whats that compared to the Volvo 163 map?
