Did a bit on the V70R today, ready for it's retest, the first thing I wanted to investigate though was the source of the oil leak. Well, I think I've located it: Image I'm pretty sure there's not supposed to be oil in there, so I guess the oil seal needs replacing. Also replaced the headlights, and fitted the heico grill I bought from The Flying Banana (Scott): Image On the cosmetic front, I need a couple of headlight wiper motors if anyone has any for sale, as when I connected one it went the wrong way and forced the wiper arm into the bumper. :slap: So tomorrow I have 2 wishbones, a track rod end, rear brakes, front strut mounts and thermostat to fit as well as giving it a good service, I will take pics of what I do. :D

Just disconnect them they are not needed for the mot, unless they are standard fit and you have hids

Or even better, rip the useless bloody things out altogether and get some blanks from Craig. Much better :)

Got a bit more done today, although the sun I ordered never turned up. :wallbash: First up was the track rod end, which was a piece of cake, as someone had had the presence of mind to copper grease the thread. Image Next up was the wishbone, I decided to do the difficult (nearside) one first, so the next one should be plain sailing. The pinch bolt was a real p.i.t.a., but a nut splitter, and rounded nut extractor tool got the job done. Image Had to drop the subframe a bit, as well as jacking the gearbox up to get the old bolts out and the new bolts in, but all went back together nicely. Image Also got the thermostat fitted, as it's only a 5 minute job. So next weekend I'll be doing the other wishbone, strut top mounts (was going to do the n/s one today whilst I had it all apart, but the old ones from the C70 are as rusty as the ones already in there, so will be getting new ones) rear brakes, new cam seals, and hopefully patching up the exhaust, if it's too badly gone I'll fit the old C70 one as a temporary measure. Here's hoping for better weather.

Update from the weekend, no pictures I'm afraid, Saturday changed the n/s strut top mount, and o/s wishbone, just had 2 of the mounting bolts to tighten when the heavens opened, :wallbash: so that ended play for Saturday. Sunday, finish off the wishbone, fit o/s strut top mount, fit starter, that's a fun job, you can't see the rear supporting bolt, so it's all done by feel, and I could only just get my arm between the inlet manifold, and fan so someone of a larger build would really struggle. Also who's bright idea was it to run the main loom directly in front of the lower mounting bolt so you can't get a socket on it? So glad I have rachet spanners.:D After that fight changed the brake shoes on the n/s handbrake, then I was GP time. Another question, what in the name of all that is holy was Volvo thinking of when they designed the rear suspension, there's radius arms, traverse links, upper wishbones, and some sort of pseudo Watts linkage, surely there's an easier way. Oh and does anyone know how I change the fuel filter, as I can see it, and even touch it, but I can't get to the fuel pipe the comes out the back of it.

Unto the retaining bolt which holds the filter in its cage, then its drops down, pull the quick release connectors and hey presto.
Unto the retaining bolt which holds the filter in its cage, then its drops down, pull the quick release connectors and hey presto.
if only it was as easy as that sounds. In my experience (changed on my p2 and p1 v70) it normally goes along the lines of: Locate fuel filter, locate rusted bolt securing filter in cage. undo bolt and drop filter from cage wrestle with filter and fittings (they have tabs on the side that are designed to be squeezed and the fittings slide off) after that fails, locate mole grips and small 10mm size spanner, clamp fitting tabs in mole grips and gently prise away from filter with open end of spanner. then when they do release you get covered in Vpower. ^^that is in no way an 'how-to' and would probably be frowned upon as a process for removing the filter, but it worked for me, working from the side of the car.

Thankfully I've now replaced this with the genuine stuff.
