Hello all! I've been visiting the site and finding lots of useful stuff, so I thought it was time I stopped lurking and said hello - and thank you - to all the nice folks here!
I have a silver '99 C70 2.4 GT, but always wanted a T5 and recently bought one... a '98 GT in "Gay Gold". The silver one is now sulking, unused, on the driveway.
The T5 failed its MOT today on split drop link rubber and rear subframe bushing, so I daresay I will be seeking more wisdom from the VPCUK collective!
See you all in the forums...

Thanks all! -- I looked at the axle bush thread, but I don't think it's quite the same thing. I need a new one of these.. or so I hope.

Sorry yes just noticed sub frame I must read through things better the front are easy enough to fit, I believe there are 3 which are the same and 1 is different but I am led to believe Volvo now don't sell the 1 which is different and say to just use the same as the other 3

Heres a picture of the subframe and the bushes in question
And then with new bushes

Thanks for the extra welcomes, and to Pete for the subframe pics. My mechanic did hint that might have to come off (I was hoping not!) The offending bush is nearside rear, so luckily not the "odd" one. I will probably be going with Meyle HD for the drop link.

Welcome - my silver one isn't moving very much ATM either.

More thanks for the extra welcomes.
-- Stribo, that looks a beast....
I was happy with Sensible Silver and also thought the saffrons were gaudy... until I saw one for real instead of photos. The colour has a chameleon quality, it shifts between many shades according to the light - mustard, bronze, orange, gold. When I saw this Gay Gold T5 for sale I fell for it on sight! It came with 310bhp RICA chip install, tints and (illegal) private plate so has never exactly been a wallflower. (pictured here with SS lurking behind)

Looks like it's the nearside front bush on the rear subframe that I need - a bit more accessible. I think it's the odd one of the four, with the oval insert. (The MOT guy marked it with yellow crayon and I still got it wrong :sorry:)

Thanks mate, it didn't always look like that, was totally standard when I bought it:
I've posted in your other thread about your suspension bush.
Post 747755 by Hound on 2014-11-12 17:58:12
Thanks for the suspension bush post! Your saffy in standard still looks very smart. I'm tempted by an eggcrate grille and some new lights, but better get the mechanicals sorted first. There are a number of niggles, like a busted door checkstrap A-pillar mount, broken driver's seat cable and that damn microswitch in the passenger seat... but hey, the car is sixteen years old after all.

My check strap was broken when I bought the car, turns out it's because the door's dropped, so when I fitted the new one it fouled slightly, I've just left the mounting bolt on the a pillar slightly loose to give enough play to stop the fouling. My passenger seat cable's broken, but I haven't done anything about it, as I hardly have anyone in the back, and if I do they can get in the driver's side. Which microswitch in the passenger seat are you referring to?
If you have a couple of hours spare I have a build thread here, bear in mind the car is still far from finished.;)

Post 747771 by Hound on 2014-11-12 18:30:31
It's the mounting on the pillar itself which has snapped. The door opens and closes fine, you just have to be careful as it's unchecked.

My driver's seat cable is broken - it won't fold manually but the electrics still fold the seat back. Like you, I don't have anyone in the back so not a major problem for now.
The microswitch is the one that is supposed to be operated by a spring - if the spring comes off, or the plastic mount for it breaks (apparently common occurences) the switches don't work. My spring is missing on the passenger seat, but I know where to "poke" to close the microswitch and get the seat working. Sometime I will take the seat out and do the mod shown in a thread I found on Volvospeed.
Sensible Silver's seats are manual, no faffing there!
Looking forward to reading the "work in progress" thread.

Nice car!!
I recommend Meyle hd drop links.
The "sponge" subframe bushes haven't been listed lately, if mine hasn't got them I'd be interested in getting some.
Welcome mate from a fellow sheep lover...
Where abouts on hope mountain are you?

Hi Biff, thanks!
Meyle seems to get the most recommendation so I'm going for that.
I wasn't planning on doing that subframe bush treatment as the 18" BBS Tritons already give me quite enough "feel". But you never know, it may take a few years off the suspension!
I'm between Coed Talon and Tir y Fron. It actually is about two thirds of the way up the mountain.
Do you do your own spannering or do you have a local pet mechanic?

welcome to vpcuk thats a stunning c70! dont leave ss out show us it too:)

Thanks Marty!
There's a pic of SS in my "garage". Sadly its rear offside quarter is dented after a disagreement with a Land Rover Discovery on a single lane country road... :slap:

I've done my own really, anything that I was weary of on my old v70r I got a mechanic mate to advise & get stuck in. Lol
I've fixed it up pretty well mechanically & then broke it after bending a rod with a bit to much boost. I then stripped it for bits.
Good to have another volvo owner locally. I went to Castell Alun school so know hope quite well. Lol
Post 748361 by Hound on 2014-11-17 12:54:51
I used to do my own stuff but a degenerative spine condition means I can barely change the air filter these days! I'm even having to pay someone to change the drop link. Sod this "getting old" lark.
Sorry about your V70R :(
Anyway if you see a Gay Gold C70 in Wrexham, chances are it's mine!
Post 748389 by Biff on 2014-11-17 19:06:29
Keep your eyes peeled for a red v70 fakeR Hound. I'm around Llay, cefn y bedd & Brymbo quite a lot as my friends & family are there. I've seen 2 saffy c70's one a coupe & one a soft top.
I'll notice yours though, you have one of the many sets of wheels I want. Lol
Deeside volvo were pretty helpful as are
Post 748394 by Hound on 2014-11-17 19:37:21
I'd better invest in a set of locking wheel nuts then, LOL.
The silver C70 had its last service at Deeside, just before I bought it - £261. That was just basic stuff; engine flush, oil, filters, plugs. Half the price was labour. I decided that getting two axle bushes and a drop link done there on the saffy would be too expensive!
Hope to catch you and have a chinwag sometime.

Lol I'm planning on a completely different set of alloys to upset the balance. ;)
Yes definitely, I'm busy changing dirty nappies at the mo but could certainly meet up. :)
Post 748444 by Hound on 2014-11-18 01:17:38
I hope they are from a baby Biffster and not your own!
I'm pretty sure these are the car's original alloys. I'm told they're 18" split-rim BBS Tritons.
Most saffy C70s I have seen have the 5-point star type wheels though (Comet?)
Drop me a PM if you want to escape diaper duty for an hour or two, LOL.

Yes that's right, the 18" were a factory upgrade option, most had 17" comets or propus which are the 17"version of your wheels.
Will do hound, can assure you they are not my nappies. Lol

Post 758105 by Hound on 2015-01-31 11:39:15
Thanks Geoff. Hope that driveshaft is sorted soon - that's a fine-looking C70. With the country roads here I wouldn't dare to lower mine like that, though!
