2015 Southern Rolling Road Day / Karting event

Post 755609 by V70 Graham on 2015-01-12 10:55:23
I was in two minds about doing a Rolling Road day this year at 'Power Engineering' but after a few people enquired with me over the past week or so I thought I'd put something together.
However......
I have this morning spoken to 'Power Engineering' who would love to have the 'Volvo lot' back if only their landlord hadn't sold the site they were on, they are now on a much smaller site with no room for the dyno :slap:
Therefore unfortunately I won't be able to organise anything this year, if anyone else knows of another venue please feel free to organise something.
Re the Karting would people prefer to wait till the end of the Summer or if I organised it would people be up for another outing to 'Daytona' towards the end of April ?
If enough interest is shown in an April event I will arrange a date and post up a dedicated thread in a week or so.

It would have to be planned around robs engine replacement or unless he runs his 240, but there is scope and I'm guess more autumn time.

Ideally we'll want a 4WD dyno.
Post 755617 by M-R-P on 2015-01-12 11:45:22
I might get hold of KTR and see if they're up for something a little less french on their dyno :)

I have organised several RR sessions at Marlin Motorsport in Bletchley MK in the past.
A very hospitable business with a bang up to date 4wd MAHA installation that is used by MAHA themselves as their demo. facility here in the UK
MAHA kit gives reference quality figures and are just about the most reliable and accurate dynos....alongside a couple of others, particularly the Kiwi DYNAPAK and Swedish Rototest hub dynos, they are not for dyno queens......
Martin is the very affable and competent owner of the business.
I would certainly be able to liaise with you in getting some of the more familiar faces there from t5d5, VOC and elsewhere.
Don.

Thanks Don, I am awaiting a call back from Martin.

It's a good venue Marlin. In my limited experience of dyno's Maha's seem to be among the best and most accurate.

Can't we do the dyno in the morning then go onto karting in the afternoon? all in mk sounds good

Post 755631 by V70 Graham on 2015-01-12 13:15:23
Right, I have just spoken to Mike at 'Marlin Motorsport' and he would be happy to hold this years event for us.
The date for the event will be either Sat Feb 21st or Sat April 18th
Cost will be £40 per car and will include 2 power runs along with a printout and refreshments, they can cater for both 2wd and 4wd on their MAHA dyno.
There is a limit of approx 20-22 cars.
Can you please add your names to the list stating preferred date (or either) and also if you would be interested in Karting at 'Daytona' afterwards (approx £75-20 needed for sole use of track).
I will go with the majority on date and decide toward the end of the week.
1. V70 Graham either date plus karting
Post 755633 by stribo on 2015-01-12 13:24:19
February just rolling road for 2 cars, April RR and karting for 2.

Dunno whether to tell my bro about this or not LOL
Post 755645 by S70T5Chris on 2015-01-12 14:11:44
April would work for me. At least 2 cars - The S60 & 850. But if there's space I'd bring the ATR too. No go karting.
Feb is unlikely as it's half term week, so may be going away somewhere with the fam.

Post 755651 by don kalmar union on 2015-01-12 14:40:56
One small but quite important point that could add a bit to the price......
These MAHA machines will record a great deal of data, the knowledge of which and ability to interpret is really very important in getting the most out of these runs. The provision of power and torque curves is a quite small part of what should be recorded from a proper run.
Some operators just don't bother with providing a full tabulation of all these parameters, partly because they don't always want to take that extra few minutes with each car to provide it when they are doing one of these days, partly because they don't expect owners to know just what they are looking at.
This information makes for interesting and valuable information in judging tuners' work and working out just what you get from costly and important kit like special d.pipes, cats and cat backs...... to say nothing of your software.....
Don.

Unfortunately no more interest in this, shame as we had a great turn out last year.
I will not be moving forward with this now.
I will be arranging a separate karting event later in the year for those interested.
Post 758331 by ExternalError on 2015-02-02 15:00:00
Shame as I'd like to get mine on the dyno to get a reading on my latest changes but April is to far away to commit as I don't know what my schedule at work is going to be and with my change of role meaning I could be required to work weekends if needed I cant give a definite yes that far in advance. Think i'll have to book a session in with Hamish instead.
